I was so excited to read this one because of the plot listed. The description, however, was more interesting than the whole book. Ive never read this author before and I cant say I'd choose her again. Maybe the age of the women made it hard for me to connect with them? Im unsure. I just couldn't get into the storyline at all, and the writing felt confusing. I love a story from multiple perspectives when it's done well. Unfortunately this one was hard to keep up with who was who and why they were doing what. I hate writing reviews like this because I feel like it's honestly probably just me who felt this way. It just took me literal years to finally get through after putting it down so much. I'm so sorry this one just didn't work for me.

This book was really well-written but the story fell flat for me. Sorry! that's a rarity for me, as I nearly always enjoy a Kerry Fisher story.

Three women and their husbands. Three very different marriages. Steph and Mal have been married for decades but now she has hit 60 she realsises how unhappy she is and plans to leave Mal. But her estranged friend Evie, now divorced, gets in touch with birthday wishes. Will this make leaving Mal easier or harder? And how will  the third friend Teresa react to this reunion...?
Other People's Marriages is an endearing and heartwarming story about marriage, friendship and the bravery of women.
The story of the three couples unfolds in 2018 and a timeline of the origins of their friendship beginning at at toddler group in the 1980s and fracturing in the 1990s. I really liked the fact that the women are in their 60s as this age group is under represented in fiction.
The book is written from the first person perspectives of the three women in both the past and present. This allows us to see their versions of events and understand their thoughts and feelings  about their marriages and friendships.
Steph is the lead character as we spend most time with her viewpoint. Outwardly loud and bold but not quite happy internally, she decides that it is time to break her marriage in order to escape the feeling of being trapped. However, despite her bravado, she is concerned about the ramifications of her decision on her son especially as she suspects her daughter in law may be having an affair.
There is a warmth to the narrative and the enduring nature of friendship which is really enjoyable to read. However this is undermined by the insidious nature of secrets which underpin the plot developments.
Other People's Marriages was a thought provoking book for making you consider how you would behave and react to the marriage situations described in the novel.

Compelling story! Steph finds herself planning her escape from her decades long marriage as she listens to her husband deliver a tribute speech at her 60th birthday party. She is disillusioned with her current life and disturbed by his trite ribbings about how she spends all his money on lattes and hand bags. Her close friend, Theresa, has no idea that there is anything but marital bliss between Steph and her husband, Mal. To complicate matters, Steph’s oldest friend, Evie, who she hasn’t spoken to in 20 years is about to show up in her life again bringing the very real threat of revealing old secrets that could wreak havoc on everyone’s lives. I enjoyed reading this book, sinking into a story about 3 women who have traveled the road of building a life through marriage and raising kids. This story is very well constructed written with emotion and humor and offering a glimpse into how we all transform over the years and how we have to work to maintain our deep relationships by breathing new life into them and letting bygones be bygones. I absolutely loved this book!!! I wanted to punch Teresa (and her trashy sister...) in the mouth (repeatedly), Kick Mal in the butt (repeatedly) and championed the renewed friendship between Steph and Evie. I enjoyed the journey that these women went through and the obvious growth over the decades long friendship. I was heartbroken over the loss of time and opportunities for Evie and Steph because of the actions of others :( I immediately marked every Kerry Fisher book as "Want to Read". Thank you to Netgalley and Kerry Fisher for a digital copy of this fabulous book in exchange for an honest review.

Sadly this was disappointing for me. I’m a fan of Kerry Fisher’s books but could not connect with this one. Really wanted to enjoy it though. Found it quite flat and kept waiting for something to happen. There are lots of excellent reviews for this so I know I’m in the minority so for that reason it’s definitely worth a read.

Thank you NetGalley.

Having read and enjoyed a couple of books by author Kerry in the past, it was an easy decision to decide to read another book of hers. I’ve found that each of her books are unique and different to each other, you never quite know what to expect but you can guarantee the story contained in the book will always be very well written. That’s what I’ve come to realise with author Kerry anyhow.

Well I'm happy to report this book ‘Other people’s Marriages’ was indeed a great read from start to finish, a really well thought out story that was real. I was truly captivated throughout and couldn't wait to see how the story would all play out and ultimately how it would end. There was a fair few characters to keep tabs on, each of whom came with their own drama and emotions. So never a dull moment.

The characters were well written and I loved how the story is told from three very different characters, being the three friends Steph, Evie and Theresa and that the chapters flicked from past to present as the story unfolds. I loved the close bond and friendship that those three friends shared, all the ups and downs they went through.

Good storyline with solid characters. A few slower parts but nothing that drew away from the book itself. Some parts kept my attention better than others.

3 women who were best of friends but had secrets bubbling away between them. This was their story where I stood on the by-lanes and enjoyed reading about them. Fun times

I loved The Woman I Was Before but this author and really enjoyed this one too!

This author writes thought provoking stories, ones that many can relate to, I think. The characters are well developed and their actions and dialogues are realistic and organic. In thrillers this day that’s a rarity! I enjoyed the journey and would recommend this story and author!

A beautiful, very real story, of three friends over the years. They meet as young mothers. They have children in common, bringing them together, but that's about it. Each sees something in the other that they perhaps are a bit envious of, or maybe they look down upon it - but that only proves the age old saying that we really don't know the challenges of what anyone else is facing. Here we have Steph, the outgoing one, the woman who seems to have it all, the one who makes no apologies and has confidence pouring out of her. Then we have Evie somewhere in the middle. But Evie lives her life managing her husband's moods, often walking on eggshells, a bit afraid to grab what she wants in life. On the other end of the spectrum is quiet Teresa, who isn't brimming with confidence or exuberance, but she has a pretty wonderful marriage to a man who is truly her soulmate. Things are never really as they seem though. A lot happens over the years, relationships are tested and broken, secrets and truths come to light, bridges are burnt and some are built. It's just an insightful depiction of how life truly happens.

Such a deep read. The author explored some real and raw emotions and it made connecting to the characters very effortless. Would definitely recommend!

“Gripping and emotional family drama” is not always my favorite genre. I often feel that there is enough family drama in real life that I don’t need to read about other people’s problems.
However, every once in a while, a book comes along that strikes a chord and makes me realize that all families have their own issues.
This is that book.
Now, I realize that it’s fiction, but this author has a gift for writing approachable stories with realistic characters who have plausible reactions. That’s a fancy way of saying this book is totally relatable and I imagine just about anyone could find something or someone familiar in its pages.
I liked how the author made Steph, Evie, and Teresa distinct individuals. They were clear cut and well-defined.
However, each of them also had a bit of each of the others in them, which only became apparent as later events transpired.
For example, Evie was the “go along to get along” type – until she wasn’t. We didn’t get the realization in actual time (due to the way the plot transpired), but it was an event that was obviously a long time coming. And when it happened, she became more like how she perceived Steph to be.
At the same time, Steph was the Alpha personality who thought she had everything under control, until she realized that she was actually making excuse after excuse to maintain a status quo that made her unhappy.
Teresa seemed to be the floater, not a strong or weak personality, just stable. But she was put in awkward positions multiple times.
I thought the author’s perspective on friendships and marriages was extremely interesting and well represented. One can never know what is going on in someone else’s life, and making assumptions serves no purpose.
That being said, the book really centers around secrets. Should a person keep a secret from a best friend? Does the severity of the secret determine whether or not it should be shared? Is it ever too late to tell the truth about something? Is a lifelong friendship and automatic allowance to sharing everything, even if something happened decades before?
The author wisely addresses all of these questions through the interactions of Teresa, Steph, and Evie. At the same time, the reader is challenged to evaluate those questions for themselves.
As to plot details, well…look elsewhere. I was more taken by how the author managed to explore friendships and marriages in an entertaining but provocative manner.
This is indeed an emotional page turner with lots of family drama. You’ll be challenged to do some deep-thinking (if you so choose) but you’ll also be captivated by how obviously simple some of the realizations are (once the characters come to them, that is).
Ultimately, it’s an excellent book that is heartfelt and realistic with relatable characters and a plot that will keep you turning pages.

This was an interesting read about relationships that everyone could relate to in some form. I enjoyed it and will read this author again.

The only reason this is getting 4 stars instead of 3 is that there is so much relevance to my life right now that it's spooky! Narrated by 3 different friends Steph, Theresa, and Evie, this novel spans decades and delves into an intense friendship between these women that at times, comprises their marriages.

I think I had trouble relating to the characters because at present time in the novel they were in their sixties. However, any female can relate to friendships and your friends' spouses not getting along. My struggle was the secret that Theresa and Evie kept for 23 years. I tried to see every side, but at the end of the day, if you can't trust your best girlfriends, who can you trust?

I found the plot and character development to be interesting but struggled to get past the lies and omissions.

Their friendships grow over the years until one day on a group holiday, a massive rift between Steph and Evie changes their friendship. They go 23 years before they see each other again.

I really liked the sound of the blurb but it wasn’t what I expected and I enjoyed it more then I thought. It’s not the twisty, action packed read that would be my usual go to. Really likeable characters when it comes to the females not so much when it comes to the men and I found I was so invested in there lives and just had to keep reading to see where it all went. Its a very well written read and really portrays the importance of friendships and all that comes with the ups and downs of life. It was a nice easy read that can make you think about aspects of your own life and shows that age doesn’t come into it when life decides to throw curve balls. If your looking for something that doesn’t take to much brain power but just want to get lost in something then this is a good read.

3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟
