Dabo's World is a good read for those who are fans of college football. The rise of the Clemson program to national prominence and the story of it's coach Dabo Swinney is a story of the improbable becoming possible. In many ways they mirror each other. Coach Swinney is one of the least likely persons to have become one of the three highest paid coaches in the country. His pedigree is not as stellar as many others in the profession. Clemson is not a traditional powerhouse in athletics like so many other universities. Yet these two, a coach who believes in himself and an institution that believed in a relatively unknown commodity, have a bond so tight that many believe it may never be broken. Anderson does a good job of telling both of their stories. Clemson fans will buy every copy of this book! College football fans will appreciate this incredible underdog story. Fans of quality human beings will enjoy reading about just such a man in Dabo Swinney. You can't read this book and not grow in appreciation for the success of both Coach Dabo and the Clemson Tiger football team.
Dabo's World by Lars Anderson is the story of Dabo Swinney, football coach of the Clemson Tigers.
Anderson writes of Swinney's childhood growing up in Pelham, AL - his struggles as a young man with his father's alcoholism - his time as a student and a football walk-on at the University of Alabama - and his evolution as a football coach to eventual National Champion. This book is full of stories that football fans love to hear.
I was drawn to this because of several connections. Coach Swinney was a student at the University of Alabama several years after I was there - his hometown is very close to mine - my daughter is a Clemson grad and her husband played for Coach Swinney.
Whether you like football or not, you should enjoy this book about Coach Swinney's take on faith, life, football and leading young men.
