Works great as an audiobook. I read the physical version as well as listening to the audiobook and found that the audio version gave you the same feelings as the physical book but it had an extra dimension.
Absolutely gripping! I became hooked into this book very quickly and was so invested in the outcome. Brilliant
Such a gripping read!
If you love James Patterson and American dramas such as Scandal (sorry Tony but it is similar!) this will be the ideal book.
The audiobook version is like being fully submerged into a real drama. There is one gory bit that I was really absorbed in and couldn't help but cry. The are multiple narrators and all are fantastic.
My only regret is not reading the first one - I didn't know this was follow up but I didn't feel like I was missing any information. Cant wait to go read that now!
Ex presidents daughter is kidnapped by a terrorist. The book covers the presidents, the presidents wife, the daughters and the terrorists point of view. along with a brief insight to the security teams too.
Thank you to @PRHAudio and the authors for an advanced audio copy of this book in return for an honest review. The President’s Daughter is due to be published on 7th June 2021 and you can get a copy here.
Description 🔖
Michael Keating was a Navy Seal before he moved into politics and found his way to the White House as President of the United States. After a bold but unsuccessful mission, his Vice President turned against him. President Keating was out and Madam President Barnes is in.
Matt Keating now wants to live a quiet life in rural New Hampshire, but there are people in the world that hold a severe grudge against him. He receives information that his daughter is under severe threat. Will the ex-President sit by and let the country’s current administration and it’s agencies handle the situation or will the Navy Seal in him take over?
General Thoughts 🤔
I enjoyed this book even more than the first. I have come to the realisation that I really enjoy an action thriller and this book certainly fits into that category perfectly. It’s perfectly paced, full of explosive action and it kept me hooked with all of the political drama and deceit.
I thought that the plot in this second book from this duo was much more thought out and complex. It also did a fantastic job of drawing on my emotions. Something so frightening happening to a child is every parent’s worst nightmare so this storyline is definitely emotive and the stakes are as high as they can get.
Characters 👫👭👬
I think I developed quite a soft spot for Matt Keating. I thought that he was a strong, genuine but also flawed character and that made him quite easy to like; nobody is perfect now are they? I admired that he made decisions and stuck to them even when those decisions were so close to home and impacted his own family and mostly, his own daughter.
Mel Keating was my favourite character…what a girl! She was brave and strong and I don’t know how she managed to keep her head up and looking for ways out of danger for as long as she did. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be being the daughter of a President (both whilst in and out of office) and there must be so much to think about that teens should never have to think about. Mel managed to draw on everything that she’d been taught even in the face of such huge danger.
Writing Style ✍️
The book is split into 4 parts and an epilogue and the chapters are super short which I really like for an action thriller. It keeps the reader on their toes and for me personally, I find it easier to fall into a “just one more chapter” habit. The story is told in real time from the points of view of various different characters; which I really liked.
I listened to the audiobook and I think the narration was one of my favourite things about this book. It helped to bring the action to life and made me feel so very tense. Having so many different narrators worked really well; especially with multiple POVs and short chapters, it helped to keep me on track with what was happening to who and when.
Conclusion & Scoring 🎖️
I felt like this book was definitely a big improvement on The President is Missing (and I did enjoy that book). I was drawn into the storyline and the characters which made the action all the more tense and thrilling. I would definitely recommend this book and I would certainly push for people to listen to the audiobook as the narration is fantastic.
This book was fast and furious, i just couldn't put it down. Very well written and confident, the plot was totally believable despite the twists. First time reading anything by both authors and was very impressed, they captured my attention well. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
Wow! Just wow! This audiobook blew my socks off! It was full of tension and suspense throughout! The partnering of James Patterson and Bill Clinton works perfectly to create this thrilling book.
It piqued my interest immediately and I knew I had to see what this book entailed. I love how Clintons knowledge from presidency has been worked into the story, it gives it an edge, a believable power and I think it plays into the atmosphere that it creates from this.
I enjoyed the narration, and the fact it had a cast of multiple narrators. I think that helped with the engagement of the book itself and for making it clear which character perspective each chapter was playing out.
The plot was fab. Half way through there is a HUGE tragic, awful incident, a real shocker and from that point I think I ended up playing the rest of the book in one sitting. I was hooked!
The character development throughout the book was well written, particularly Mel and Matt. You could really feel the emotions in both of them and in particular Mel.
Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I now need to read the first book written together by both Clinton and Patterson. What a riveting read!
** I received an advanced copy of this audiobook to listen to and review. Thank you NetGalley, the authors and publisher for allowing me this opportunity. **
I received this audiobook from the publishers via Netgalley for a review. Although not a Patterson fan loved this book and characters especially the President's daughter. The multiple narrator's are a good addition.
Excellent listen- when the ex-president of the USA daughters is kidnapped the book unfolds the subsequent search. With plenty of twists and turns along the way as to be expected in this genre- this was an excellent listen. The current occupants of the white house were in no way likeable! Narration was great and with number of main characters it was easy follow. brilliant sequel to the presidents missing. Hopefully another collaboration between Bill Clinton and James Patterson will happen soon
Now got this on kindle version and audio. My review is under the kindle version. Audio definitely a bonus.
The President's Daughter by Bill Clinton and James Patterson
Absolutely loved this thoroughly entertaining, powerful and exciting thriller! Every bit as good as The President is Missing. I think Clinton's insights into what it's like to be a former President as opposed to a standing President add something fascinating to this. I can recommend the audiobook, which has a number of narrators and really adds to the pace and immediacy of the plot, which crosses borders and packs quite a punch. A couple of blows had me in tears, they were that powerful. A full blog review will be posted for the kindle netgalley review.
"I am the justice."
Mel, bright heavily bespectacled and feisty 19 years old college student, is also ex President Matt Keating's only daughter. After Matt lost the election to his Vice President, his wife pursued her archaeological career whilst he retired to a more rural location with continued, lifelong personal protection, a protection which did not apply to Mel after she turned sixteen. And so she was an easy terrorist kidnap victim, her sole hiking companion murdered, and a ransom demanded, one which the present administration had no intention of paying.
Being somewhat predictable in no way lessens the hold-your-breath tension as Matt tries all he knows to get his daughter back, from diplomacy to physical attack. Characters are skillfully crafted, small details bringing them vividly to life and it is this attention to detail which, again, brings a feeling of reality to the whole book. From first sentence to the last, The President's Daughter demands the reader's attention and holds it throughout. Read skillfully by numerous narrators, each takes the short, snappy chapters dominated by different perspectives taking one of those characters as their own, and this wonderful array of voices not only helps delineate the individual actions and protagonists within the story but additionally keeps the reader focused on the recording, a fresh voice also refreshing the listener. And each narrator is excellent.
I was very fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of The President's Daughter, at my request, from Penguin pulications, via Netgalley. Thank you so much. I thoroughly enjoyed the combination of James Patterson's masterful thriller story telling skills combined with the expertise and detailed knowledge of ex President Bill Clinton. They make a fine team. And this book would make a great film.
Highly recommended to all who look for riveting reading
