What is God Like is an emotional and gorgeous view of God for kids. It's a beautiful reminder that God loves us all and is for each one of us. It's so good to be with RHE's words again.

What Is God Like? is one of the most important religious children's books in a growing progressive market, and has quickly become beloved by people of all ages – no doubt because it combines two powerhouse names: the late Rachel Held Evans and Matthew Paul Turner. Every family and church need a copy (or several) on hand!

What God Likes by Rachel Held Evans and Matthew Paul Turner is an absolutely beautiful book and I am so happy to have it in my hands. The book tells of a warm, loving God who delights in us, and that’s a message we all - not just children - need to hear. The whimsical, inclusive illustrations represent the beauty of our diverse world. My son saw it sitting on the table and said, “did you get this for me because I wonder what God is like?” Yes, buddy, because we both need this book. I’m thankful that Matthew Paul Turner was able to finish what Rachel Held Evans started to bring us this lovely book.

What a team! Rachel Held Evans and Matthew Paul Turner make the perfect pairing to bring this beautiful story to life. A wonderful message about who God is and how He loves us. This would make a great gift for parents wondering how to talk to their children about a loving (not vengeful) God.

We own several of Matthew Paul Turner's books, and I was excited he was able to finish his friend's book, What Is God Like? This book is so great for kids of all ages. The illustrations are beautiful and it's written in a way that my kids (ages 5 and 9) both understood it.

Simple words to tackle a big subject. RHE and MPT provide a view into what God is like, and Ying Hui Tan's illustrations are a perfect match. Inclusive language means people from different faiths and different backgrounds can find meaning and understanding of God. Highly recommended for any person, old or young, who is better looking to understand God.

This book is truly gorgeous. It is inclusive, diverse, and open. There is no strict or absolute rules about who God must be. It helps you see that God is exactly who you always wanted them to be. The book I’ve been waiting for personally, and for my kids.

Have missed Rachel’s voice so much. This book does a wonderful job of capturing it and it is just filled with love. I wish I grew up believing these truths about God rather than believing that God was always angry and waiting for me to mess up. What a gift that Matthew Paul Turner was able to complete this book and bring it to a world that desperately needs it. This books will resonate with young and old.

I received a digital version as part of the launch team, but have preordered it as well and can’t wait for the physical version!

Fresh tears stream down my face as I read each page, even after reading the introduction... This book is emotion. If the reader is familiar with Rachel Held Evans or Matthew Paul Turner this book will shake you to the core. The loss of Rachel's life so young left a whole in the world of faith or belief. This book is her heart and was finished by a friend who she confided in and who knew her writing, heart, and faith well. MPT has his own way with words and has gifted the world with many children's books of his own. This book is for believers, non-believers, questioners, those who have questions those who think they know the answers. This book is said to be for kids but this book is for everyone. Everyone should read this book. I can't wait to have this book in my hands, to gift this book to friends and family, to share this book with everyone. The pictures are beautiful, colorful and filled with the words on each page. This beautiful book is a gift to the world.

This beautiful, beautiful book is just what the world needs. Rachel Held Evans and Matthew Turner captures a glimpse of the glory and awe, the loving kindness and maternal warmth, the creativity and mystery of God in this beautiful picture book. The illustrations make sure to paint of picture of God big enough to hold, love, and relate to all of humanity, and the text flows in the perfect night-time-picture book rhythm. I cannot wait to give this to every family, every questioning friend, every fellow seeker I know. Thank you Rachel.

“What is God like? That’s a very big question, one that people from places all around the world have wondered about since the beginning of time.”

I loved the way this beautifully written and illustrated book approaches the idea of God through vivid, tangible, and inclusive images that are approachable by both children and adults. This book opens up conversation, encourages imagination, and overflows with wonder. It is both simple and powerful in the language it uses and the illustrations it depicts.

As a parent I am so thankful to have this book to read with my children and I am so very grateful to Matthew Paul Turner and the late Rachel Held Evans for bringing these beautiful words into the world.

When Rachel died, I cried the whole entire day. When I found out her last book was a children's book, I cried again. Reading her (and Matthew's) words were an absolute balm. The story is gorgeous. The artwork is incredible and is so very inclusive of all children. I cannot wait to give this book to friends and family to share with their own children. What a gift this book is to the world!

What a breathtakingly beautiful book. This new children's book from the late Rachel Held Evans and prolific children's author Matthew Paul Turner is full of depth, heart, meaningful and lovely. The illustrations by Ying Hui Tan are absolute masterpieces. What is God Like is an exploration of children's first questions about God, and it answers them thoughtfully and intentionally, without skirting around hard concepts or infantilizing big important concepts. It is clear that Turner & Evans believe that children can handle big answers to big questions, while still offering children hope, joy and light as part of the answers too.

What Is God Like? is one of the most meaningful and special children’s books in our library. Rachel Held Evans was, without a doubt, the most influential writer and pastor to me as an adult before she died. Matthew Paul Turner writes children’s books that my two kids absolutely adore and read over and over again. How special it is for MPT to have brought her vision to life in this treasure of a book. The language is inclusive and the illustrations breathtaking. This book paints a picture of the God that Rachel preached - one who is bigger, vaster, more loving and beautiful than we could ever imagine.

Thanks to Convergent Books and NetGalley for the early copy. I can’t wait to by this for all the children in my life.
