This book was suspenseful and heartbreaking all at once. I was truly surprised by the ending and there were many different stories going on, all equally as interesting and consuming. Would definitely recommend!

K.L.Slater's latest book is a page-turner that gives a loud and clear message on coercive control. To me, this was a thrilling read and a chilling eye-opener, rolled into one.
Incarcerated for the past ten years for the brutal murder of her husband, Simone Fischer finally agrees to a tell-all interview with Esme Fox through the latter's podcast, The Speaking Fox. As Simone describes her life with her late husband Grant Fischer, and the events that led her to breaking point, Esme recognizes the red flags in her own married life. Already stretched to the limits, taking care of her nine-year-old son who is still not fully recovered from an accident the previous year, dealing with her pushy husband who refuses to accept that they are separated and running a full-time business, Esme is shattered when her sister Michelle, is found beaten and left for dead. Even as her personal life crumbles, Esme, despite all opposition, goes ahead with her podcast, and in the process is confronted with some hard truths and secrets, making her doubt whom she can really trust.
I can't decide which i loved more - the premise or the plot twists. Both were equally engaging. I love that the characters weren't all perfect; even the protaginist Esme is shown to be a control freak so much so that she causes others to resent her.
Stories on domestic abuse are so common these days. But Simone's confession reveals how very often it goes unnoticed, as initially it is cloaked in a veneer of care and concern that even strong, independent and educated women fall prey to it. The character of Brooke shows that gaslighting and manipulation are tactics that men and women wield alike.
Overall, this was a gripping and thought-provoking read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I always look forwards to a new release from K L Slater and i enjoyed this , it was exactly what you come to expect , fast paced , entertaining with plenty of twists , suspects and red herrings
Esme is interviewing Simone who is in prison for killing her husband for her podcast . This part of the story is told via interviews at the prison and i enjoyed this part of the book . Esme is recently separated from her husband and takes care of their son with the help from her sister , one day Michelle doesn't come home . As Esme tries to hold all together different threads are revealed and Esme doesn't know who she can trust or count on . Brilliant as usual
This author never disappoints and the latest book yet again is a rollercoaster of a ride of emotions. Esme leads a busy life running a podcast company. Her new exclusive series is the once in a lifetime chance for her to put her series on the map. Simone Fischer is finally ready to tell all about why she killed her husband. As Esme works hard to juggle her career and her home life it is all thrown into the air when her sister is brutally attacked. Is her quest for an exclusive putting her family at risk or is the truth closer to home and will she ever be free of her own controlling ex partner? This book is a thrilling read and I could not put it down.
I really enjoyed this book; once I started I couldn’t put it down. Plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. Definitely worth a read
The evidence had all the makings of a great psychological thriller. It definitely had twists and turns that I didn't see coming and kept me breezing through the book at a fast pace just so I could get to the end and see what happened! I read this book in about a day because it was that good and I couldn't put it down. I would definitely recommend, KL Slater's books are always good and this one is definitely on par!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this Arc in exchange for honest review
I eagerly anticipate Kim Slater’s novels! I know I’m going to be taken on a terrific rollercoaster ride and I read expecting the emotional punch she throws in for good measure. Her strong writing and vivid, well-developed characters always get me quickly invested in her stories. It’s her twisty, clever plotting that keeps me turning the pages.
This very powerful and intense read incorporates a true-crime podcast. Although it was difficult for me to maintain focus at first, I soon learned to love the effect of first-person writing. It forced me to become engaged with the content and put me in front of a character who lived to tell her side of the story and kept her humanity at the forefront. By using this format, Slater uniquely allows readers to become intimately invested in the story being covered.
The premise pulled me in right away, the pace was unrelenting and filled with tension, the characters intentions were revealed at just the right time, and I was rooting for the protagonist to deal with and overcome her challenges.
You’ll need to clear your schedule to enjoy this psychological thriller…it’s binge-worthy!

I was gifted this advance copy by K.L. Slater, Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Wow! Lots of twists and turns in this book! What a thriller! I wasn't sure exactly who did it till right up until the end! This book had intrigue, suspense, action, drama and like I said plenty of twists and turns! A really good who done it! Definitely don't miss out on this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
I really enjoy Kim Slater’s novels and find them full of action, twists, suspense and completely addictive. This one is no different and loved it even if I did guess early on what was going to happen. Her books are fiction and as long as you don’t expect it to be too real you are in for a ride. Great characters, some you will like and others you will hate but the suspense grows from start to finish and you will struggle to put it down until you have finished.
The lead character is Esme and she runs her own media company as well as raising her son Zachary after recently splitting up with husband Owen. She now lives with her sister Michelle and together they are building a successful media company as well as looking after Zachary. Zachary is not the easiest child after surviving a car accident when he was knocked over.
Esme is currently running with a major project where she is doing podcast interviews on a high profile murder case. Simone Fischer was convicted of murdering her abusive husband and Esme wants to delve into the case more to show whether it was self defence, crime of passion or premeditated murder. There are plenty of things going on in this book and it is difficult to know which characters you can trust. Lots of secrets and hidden agendas both close to home and colleagues.
Esme faces a fight to keep her business successful, uncovering the truth regarding Simone Fischer’s story as well as the safety of her family
I didn’t get into this one as quick as I usually do but by the end I couldn’t read fast enough. Great suspense and intrigue.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
While I enjoy K.L. Slater’s books, I honestly don’t think I’ve ever given one 5 stars…until now.
I was ridiculously invested in this book. It’s still a beach reach, but it was one of those compulsive beach reads.
I wanted to know the story of our convicted murderer, but was also intrigued by our current day mystery. And honestly? I didn’t want to stop reading. And the podcast angle – an angle which I’m seeing a bit too much of these days in lit – really worked for this one. It was the perfect frame for our story.
Very happy to have read this one!

The Evidence by K.L. Slater immediately found itself being moved to the top of my very large TBR. This is completely addictive storytelling, and I could not devour it quickly enough. Once you discover the brilliance of Ms Slater, you will be forever hooked.
Esme operates a podcast and manages to secure an interview with Simone, a woman who has been convicted for killing her abusive husband in cold blood. Simone seems enthusiastic about telling her side, but not everyone agrees that her story is suitable fodder for Esme's journalistic probing. As Esme learns more from Simone, her own life begins to unravel, starting with the mysterious disappearance of her sister. How far is Esme willing to go to uncover the truth?
Curling up with a K.L. Slater novel is always an absolute treat, and this latest is no exception. 4.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.
Esme is a journalist currently working on a podcast of the infamous case of Simone Fischer, who killed her husband while her son was in the next room. Simone has never spoken to the press, so Esme can't believe her luck - this is going to be incredible for her career. She's not surprised when Simone opens up about her marriage and the abusive behavior that led to the tragic event. To Esme, the coercive control that Simone's husband exerted over her would be grounds for a crime of self-defense and could lead to Simone being released. Just when Esme can't believe her luck, she gets terrible news - her sister, Michelle, has been attacked and is in critical condition. Because they also work together, Esme isn't sure if this is related to her podcast with Simone or if it's a random incident. How is she supposed to focus on her story when her sister is fighting for her life?
Esme now has no choice but to let her estranged husband take a larger role in caring for their son, Zachary, as Michelle had moved in and handled the bulk of the childcare and housework. Interacting with her ex, Troy, reminds Esme of Simone's situation - a husband who hides his control in 'selfless' acts that make her appear ungrateful if she doesn't accept. Although she's now more aware of his manipulative behavior, she can't find the strength to turn him away, for Zachary's sake. When the police come calling with questions for Troy, Esme must face the realization that her closest family could be putting her in the greatest danger.
I like that the author doesn't just label behavior as controlling, but gives examples of how manipulative people use words and phrases that they can twist to their advantage. Hidden threats are made clear to the victim, but the unassuming bystander will have no clue. But it was disappointing that Esme allowed Troy to continue his behavior even when she realized what he was doing. Yes, she was overwhelmed and vulnerable, but she knew what it led to with Simone and she shouldn't have let him back into her home just to make things less complicated with Zachary. Phases like 'it was just easier to let it go' pop up repeatedly which was frustrating.
I had an issue with one of the bigger twists, not only that I think most readers will see it coming, but that the fallout would have occurred like it did. I don't want to give anything away, but I just can't fathom that Zachary would have been left like that after his accident (not a spoiler), especially when it wasn't a crime UNTIL he was abandoned. No one in the position of that particular perpetrator would leave, it just doesn't make sense. It doesn't detract greatly from the appeal of the book, but I wish that had gone in a different direction. Maybe no one else sees it that way - you'll just have to read it for yourself and decide!
This book was an enjoyable read. Enough mystery and suspense to keep the reader turning the pages. In addition, a number of interesting twists and turns. This is a book which I would recommend to others.
Thank You NetGalley, Bookouture and Slater for this awesome advanced ebook!
K.L. Slater has quickly become one of my favorite authors! Her writing style is fun and amazing.

Journalist Esme is excited when a Simone Fischer, a woman convicted of killing her husband, agrees to take part in a podcast. Simone has not done any interviews until now so Esme jumps at the opportunity to create the podcast and tell the world the truth of what Simone went through with her abusive husband. Not everyone is happy to see Esme doing the podcast of the accused killer, and soon things get worse when Esme's sister is left for dead in the woods - could this be connected to Esme doing the podcast? Can Esme unravel all of the mysteries before it is too late?
Another brilliant book by K L Slater. The plot was well written, exciting, tense and full of twists and turns and a lot of shocks. There were a variety of interesting characters, and you are kept guessing until a lot of shocking revelations come out. Recommended!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
Wow what a brilliant author and boom. So many twists and turns a page turner everytime. Thought I had solved it and then low and behold another twist
Firstly K.L.Slater is fast becoming my favourite author. Every single book I’ve read of hers and I think I’ve read the majority have been AMAZING!!!! I had just finished the marriage (the book before this one) two days ago after buying it off amazon and couldn’t believe my luck when I got sent this copy yesterday. Well.... I had plenty to read before this one but this had now slipped to the top of my pile and I thought if it’s anything like the marriage I’m in for a great read....
The evidence - I don’t even know how to start this review as I know my words will never do it justice. Each time I pick one of this authors books up, I wonder how it is going to top their previous book as each and every one I’ve read has absolutely blown me away. Oh, the tension! I was practically clenching my jaws and holding my breath from start to finish. This psychological thriller is enticing and captured me, utterly and completely, from the first page to the last. I hungrily read the novel in one sitting, ignoring everything else. This has to be a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read from me. K L Slater can do no wrong!

A different novel.
Simone Fischer. The young mother accused of killing her husband in cold blood, one sunny afternoon, while their son played in the room next door. So when journalist Esme secures an exclusive interview with her it feels like the opportunity of a lifetime. Simone has remained silent since her husband’s death but after a decade in prison, she is willing to talk to Esme. And Esme, recently freed from her own toxic marriage, is confident she can get Simone to open up. At their first meeting, when Esme sees Simone sitting across the table from her in jeans and a lemon tunic top, she is stuck by her ordinariness. Then Simone begins to tell her story of an abusive relationship where she was a prisoner in her own home, and Esme decides that the truth needs to come out. But not everyone is pleased that Esme is telling Simone’s story. And when Esme’s beloved sister is left for dead in a nearby wood, Esme’s life begins to unravel. Forced to question what Simone has told her, she can’t help but wonder if murder was the only way out of Simone’s marriage. Why has it taken Simone so long to tell the world the truth? And will the consequences be devastating for Esme?
Execution style was a bit different which I loved.
Characters and narration of the story are good.
I'm doing more promotion on its release date among my fellow Authors Bloggers Family Friends and followers on its release date.
