Esme is a podcaster who has finally gotten the opportunity to interview Simone Fischer. Simone killed her husband while their son was in the next room. Was Simone a battered wife? Was killing her husband the only way to escape the horror facing her and her son? Simone has never spoken about her marriage and her husband's death, but she finally accepts Esme's offer for continued interviews.

Esme has a podcast and her first show will feature Simone. What Simone is soon to learn is that Esme is a kindred spirit. In chilling fashion as Esme begins to record interviews for her podcast, Simone begins relaying the tragic events of her marriage. All the while, things in Esme's life are falling apart. A couple of years previously, Esme's son Zachary was hurt in a hit an run accident. As Esme's marriage has ended, Michelle moved in with Esme to help with Zachary. However, Michelle had disappeared and was then attacked. Esme cannot help but wonder if what happened to Michelle was connected to the podcast.

While Esme continues her interviews with Simone, she tries to get behind Michelle's attack, all while the feeling that some people are not happy with her podcast. One person not in Esme's camp is her mother-in-law Brooke. Brooke is making Esme's life a living hell.

With rapid pacing, shocking twists and a jaw-dropping conclusion, The Evidence was a thrilling read that was impossible to put down. This book deals with the serious subject of marital abuse. In fact, the letter from Kim Slater at the end of the book offers great insight as to the types of abuse Simone and Esme suffered. I love Ms. Slater's books and have read more than a few and each and every one of them has been captivating, and this one is no exception.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review This is my honest opinion.

As I have read several books by this author before I knew what I was getting. This author has a way of building the suspense slowly, slowly in a way that makes it more believable somehow. But for me, this one lacked that magic of building up the suspense. The reason is that I expected more interaction/mystery with the woman accused of killing her husband. Instead, the main focus was the mystery surrounding Esme’s sister's disappearance. The connection between the two main plot points in the book was sometimes lacking and when the final reveal came I wasn’t so surprised that I’m usually am reading books by this author..

I loved this book. So very topical with a thought provoking and hard hitting plot line. And, of course, the delicious twists we've come to expect from this author's fantastic psychological thrillers. I was hooked from the start and absolutely raced through it.

K L Slater is one of my faves - and this is because each one is so different, yet the writing style makes them feel so familiar!
Missing sisters, murdered husbands, persistent ex husbands - they all have something to add to this brilliant thriller. I preferred the marriage - but it was still great!

Domestic melodrama with a histrionic protagonist.

There's a lot going on in this novel. Part of it deals with Esme Fox and her podcast featuring Simone Fischer -- a woman who murdered her husband and has been convicted. Simone has agreed to talk to Esme about her situation and the transcripts of those interviews are the best part of this novel.

But, Esme has a handicapped son (hurt in a hit and run), is dealing with a missing sister (found beaten nearly to death and in the ICU), an estranged husband, Owen, who gets arrested -- and all other sorts of goings on that really detracted from what could have been a very interesting story.

I really tried to like this but I just couldn't stand Esme after all. I never found any empathy for her and she irritated the heck out of me. I am not a fan of lots of angsting, and Esme is a star at it. The other characters were paper thin and it was fairly clear early on which ones were the bad guys.

So -- solve the Simone Fischer situation, deal with the hit and run doer, face her marriage, get rid of her inlaws, accept her betrayals in her business -- it was just way too much. And, all I wanted to do was hear the podcasts of the Simone story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.

This is the story of Esme, her son &soon to be ex husband. Esme is working on a podcast with her sister, who has moved into Esme’s house to help care for her son, Zachary, who was hurt in a hut and run accident that left him with some lifelong injuries. While covering the case for her podcast of a woman in prison for killing her husband, Esme’s sister is attacked and left for dead and Esme is left to figure out why and who would hurt her. In the process, she realizes that so much of her life isn’t what she thought it was and the case and her personal life get mixed together until at last all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place.
I liked the transcripts of her interviews with Susan in prison, but so many of the other characters were just so awful it was hard to find anything redeeming in them. And some of the dialect was repetitive and forced feeling. Otherwise, there were several twists and I enjoyed reading it :)

I have yet to read a bad K.L. Slater book. All of her books are amazingly well written and enjoyable and The Evidence is no exception. I was engrossed from the first page, I love Kim's style of writing she never seems to put a foot wrong. Great characters you can empathise with, a clever plot, easy to read and a compelling psychological thriller. I love this author.

Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I read enjoyed this book and was hooked from the beginning. I liked the style of writing with some different points of view chapters. I found the main character a little frustrating! But overall a great read with some twists and turns to keep me reading. Would recommend it.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book took some time to finish, because there's so many sub- plots going on at the same time. Esme Fox, reporter/ podcaster has an exclusive reveal all series of interviews with an infamous battered woman who murdered her husband. At the same time, she's also dealing with aftermath of a car accident that crippled her child for life, a husband she's trying to separate from, starting her own business etc.

Then everything started spiraling starting with her sister's disappearance leading to her being found and in the ICU on life support, what is the connection between that and everything else.

In the first half of the story, I had so much questions about the backstory, particular about her marriage, don't worry, all those questions will be answered in the second half.

Pretty decent thriller.

Esme and Owen are married with their son Zachary, but when Zachary is a victim of a hit and run things start to go downhill in their relationship and Owen moves out and Michelle Esme’s sister moves in.With Esme also starting a podcast up with a convicted murderer she has certainly got her hands full on the home and business front and when mum in law from hell Brooke arrives to help events only get worse for Esme.Once again Kim Slater has excelled in writing a gripping thriller which is full of twists and turns throughout the book and it will keep you turning the pages well into the night,Kim Slater is definitely up there with the best authors of this genre.Yet another stunning 5 star read.

Esme Fox has set up a podcast company with her sister, Michelle. When Esme gets the scoop of a lifetime, an interview with husband killer, Simone Fischer, there is a lot of hatred and negativity towards Esme.

Esme has separated from her husband, Owen and she looks after their son, Zach who was left with injuries following a hit and run. When Michelle is left for dead and fighting for her life in hospital, Esme is left trying to find out who would want her dead and why.

As Esme starts to sink from all the pressure she is under, Brooke Painter turns up - the mother in law from hell! Esme knows there will be a hidden agenda but she desperately needs help right now.

This is a story that gradually builds up the tension. Great characters that are well written and I genuinely loathed Brooke, everything about her was awful! I thought that I had it all worked out with who did what, only to be completely wrong. An excellent thriller from the Queen of twists.

My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Esme Fox has a lot going on in her life--a podcast that's taking off to new levels, a son who has been tragically injured and who's struggling to find his new normal, a husband (sort of ex) who's controlling, and a sister who doesn't quite get the concept of boundaries and who hates the aforementioned (sort of ex) husband. Really, with all that, it's only a matter of time before things explode--and explode they do. By the end of the book you come to understand not just the mysterious events that happened in the course of the book, but the tragic events that preceded it. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out twists ahead of time, or at the very least, narrowing it down to two possibilities--but I didn't even get close with this one. Great characters, great mystery, great misdirection--I highly recommend!

Brooke Painter, what a sublimely outrageous fantastically awful love to hate character, she deserves a mention at the beginning, the Mother In Law from hell but just so superbly given to us in this book
And what a book, this the 14th psychological thriller from the author and a tale that builds and builds, the intrigue in the first part of the book had me desperate to know what was going on and it turns out there is more than one storyline cleverly woven into this story…and when the reveal happens it then unfolds with more reveals ( I didn’t guess the main one and in fact was quite cocky thinking I had worked out two ‘suspects’ and had 100% got it wrong, which I loved )
The use of a podcast to tell small parts of the book is well done, and mixes great with the narrative and real time events, I enjoyed all parts
A wide selection of characters to like and dislike, although as started with Brooke Painter takes the biscuit in every way 😎
Just an outstandingly good thrilling different kind of story that hit every spot and made a thoroughly immersive read
A very interesting letter from the author at the end on how this book came into being and the research done etc

Esme is making a business out of her popular podcast and has secured an exclusive interview with a woman jailed for murdering her husband. In the midst of all of this she is dealing with a missing sister, an ex-husband trying to get back together and her son who was left with serious disabilities after a hit and run accident. The surprises in this story made it such an incredible read!

Journalist and podcast host, Esme Fox, is thrilled when she secures an interview with Simone Fischer, a woman jailed for life for the murder of her husband. When interviewing Simone, Esme begins to realise some parallels in her own marriage. When Esme’s sister, Michelle, vanishes, we start to see Esme’s life begin to unravel before her eyes.
I loved this book and cannot recommend it enough.

Does having read six of the author's previous books qualify me as a die-hard fan? You bet. And here's another sure thing: This one is further evidence that she's still a winner in my book.

It begins as Esme Fox, a journalist who left a day job to start a podcasting company with her sister, Michelle, is recording a podcast session with Simone Fischer, a woman convicted of murdering her husband. During her years in prison - where she remains - she's never spoken to anyone the details of how (and more important, why) she committed the crime. But for whatever reason, she's agreed to open up to Esme.

During their relatively brief first conversation, Esme is won over; Simone, she believes, is speaking the truth and her case needs to be reviewed with fresh eyes. But while the first podcast goes viral - virtually guaranteeing that Simone's fledgling company will be successful - not everyone is delighted that the case may be rehashed, including Simone's brother and now-grown son.

Behind the scenes, Esme has a 9-year-old son, Zachary, who suffers physical and mental injuries sustained in an earlier hit-and-run incident. She's also parted ways with her husband Owen, who's moved to a flat but keeps trying to get back in Esme's good graces. Esme's sister has moved in to help with Zachary, and the future is looking bright.

Until somebody hits the dimmer switch. With no warning, Michelle bails on an important meeting with a company prominent in the podcasting field. When she's found brutally beaten and dumped in a wooded area, Esme is devastated. The only person she can rely on now - albeit reluctantly - is the controlling husband (and his equally controlling parents) who'd love nothing better than to get back to doing their thing in her life. More to the point, Esme suddenly sees parallels with her life and Simone's, making her question everything that's happened up to this point.

From here on, you'll have to read the book to find out more. There's plenty of action complete with twists and turns (although I must say they're coupled with a fair amount of predictability). All told, it makes for an entertaining, easy to read story I think will hold your attention throughout as it did mine. Thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review a pre-release copy.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy!

I don’t know even know where to begin with this book. Esme newly separated from her husband Owen starts her own investigative podcast company….interviewing a woman Simone, in prison for killing her husband. Her son Zachary was involved in a hit and run accident. Esme’s sister was found beaten and is in ICU.

It took me a minute to get into this book and at first I was wanting the book to be all about Simone and her story.

With the many little story lines it’s wrapped up in a great little how at the end.

Highly recommend!
