I thought the ghost in the library was a very nice addition to this traditional cozy mystery. The large cast of characters at the wedding made for lots of opportunities for suspects and the side plots resolved nicely.
I didn't finish reading this book because it contains paranormal elements. A paranormal mystery is just not my genre. I gave it three stars because I didn't want to be mean. I should have looked at the description of the book more closely.
As a newcomer to this series, I had a bit of a hard time with the connection to some of the characters. There were parts of the story that had a good plot but I found myself struggling with parts of it. I am looking forward to reading the next books as I want to see what happens with the main characters.
Thank you, NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the advanced reading.
I have read this series from the beginning. The characters have developed into wonderfully complex and interesting characters. The mystery is full of twists and turns with several suspects. These books never disappoint. I recommend this book and series to cozy mystery fans.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series and I always look forward to the latest addition to the Haunted Library mystery series! It has everyone a reader could want: an amazing "who-dun-it", ghosts, and a hint of romance! All in all, this entire series is perfection and I look forward to many more to come!
I picked this book not realising that it was the 5th in a series, that being said it can easily be read as a stand alone novel. Death on the Shelf is a perfect cosy mystery, with an engaging who done it and characters that I really enjoyed reading about.
The writing is fantastic and the setting - in a library - was perfect. I read this book in one sitting I was so invested in the story and I have gone and gotten myself the first book in the series.
Many thanks to Netgalley the author and the publisher for a ARC of this book.
I found this an easy read though it is not an author I have read before. It is not something I would look to read again but her characters were endearing particularly Tacey, which at first I thought had been spelt wrong. Not having read this authors books before I was a bit confused when Evelyn the ghost was mentioned, I gleaned she was a ghost quite quickly though.
This is an easy read for those who love ghost and murder mystery stories in a gentle none gruesome way.
This is the fifth book in the Haunted Library mystery series. I definitely recommend reading them in order.
Carrie Singleton is thrilled to attend her best friend Angela’s wedding. At the wedding reception, the sweet occasion turns darkly bitter when
Angela’s wealthy cousin Donna’s surgeon husband, Aiden, topples into the chocolate fountain–dead. Carrie is on the case and A few of the top contenders on her suspect list are the flirtatious Roxy, emotionally unstable since her recent divorce; Angela’s grouchy brother, who feels Aiden betrayed him; and Roxy’s scorned ex-husband. Even Donna may have had reason to want her husband dead. And Aiden’s gossipy office manager has plenty to say about them all.
I enjoyed this book and series so far. The characters and storyline are well thought out and developed. This book had A LOT going on in it! It was not my favorite of the series but I still enjoyed it very much!
Death on the Shelf is the fifth installment in the Haunted Library Mysteries series set in the small town of Clover Ridge and featuring librarian Carrie Singleton. Carrie is helping plan her best friend Angela Vecchio's bridal shower and wedding, but a series of unfortunate events has Angela believing her wedding is cursed. When the restaurant that was to host the shower burns down, Carrie is forced to scramble for a new location and settles on the home of Angela's cousin, Donna Harrington. But, Angela doesn't get a long with her snooty cousin and predicts that something bad is going to happen. She's not wrong.
When Donna's husband, Aiden drops dead in the middle of Angela's wedding reception, there are so many suspects that Carrie doesn't know where to begin tracking down a killer. Could it be Angela's brother, who is mad that Aiden wouldn't invest in his movie? Could it be Aiden's business partner, Dr. Nick Gannon, who is mad that Aiden wanted to expand the practice? Could it be Donna, Aiden's wife who suspected that he might be having an affair with their other cousin Roxy? Or maybe it was Roxy, who is mad that Aiden wouldn't leave his wife?
In addition to finding out who killed Aiden, the library ghost Evelyn, has asked Carrie to track down her brother. He'd abandoned his family years ago, over a gambling incident and Evelyn wants him to come back and help his daughter.
A solid plot with the return of many series regulars. It's always a delight to spend time with Smoky Joe and to visit with Evelyn. The relationship between Carrie and Dylan is on the fast track and I'm looking forward to what happens next between the couple.
I received an advanced copy of Death on the Shelf from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Books. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
Number five in this series. You don’t have to read the pervious ones it’s just a bonus. Allison Brook pays attention to what her fans like and it’s obvious. The characters and stories don’t get old.
In this installment of the Haunted Library series by Allison Brook we get to spend summer time in Clover Ridge with Carrie, Dylan and the library employees. Carrie again gets involved in another murder mystery because it occurs at Angela's wedding reception. By now readers of the series know that Carrie just can't kept out of a mystery when it involves family and friends.
It was lovely to visit with Evelyn again and she has a missing person case that she asks Carrie to help solve. The missing person is Evelyn's brother and it takes help from Dylan's office to resolve this one but it was a heart warming reunion on more than one level. Ms. Brook has woven a swiftly paced story with numerous suspects, skillful twists and turns as Carrie follows the clues and a reveal that puts Carrie in a spot of trouble once again.
This book is the 5th in the series of Blue Ridge Library Mysteries. I have read all of this series. There is the main characters that are in all of the books with the addition of new ones pertaining to the story.. All the characters are perfect for this story. The story starts with the cancellation of the venue of Angela. one of the library workers,' bridal shower and Carrie Singleton, the main character, and her library friends try to find another place to have it. Donna, Angela's cousin, offers her house and this is where the new characters in the book are introduced. At her wedding reception Aiden, Donna's husband collapses and dies. This is where the story takes off with all the twists and turns of the characters and whodunit, Carrie and her boyfriend, Dylan, try to find out who poisoned Adrien. The reader is taken through many scenarios that keep the reader guessing until the end. Throughout the story the reader watches Carrie and Dylan's relationship develop into something more serious The special dinner prepared by Dylan when he asks her to marry him and her acceptance. I am looking forward to book 6 to find out where their new adventures lead them.
Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC.
Carrie Singleton, Smoky Joe and her friendly library ghost Evelyn are trying to solve a murder, reunite a woman and her father all while some surprising news awaits!
Carrie has grown into a strong and independent woman. I think that is what makes her so relatable because everything she has accomplished has been through hard work and supportive friends and family. It has been so much fun to see Carrie mature in her personal and professional lives. This mystery has her helping her best friend Angela find out who murdered a well liked doctor at her wedding. Along with that mystery, Evelyn asks her to locate her missing brother and reunite him with his daughter. The mystery is crafted so well that I had many suspects but found I guessed wrong - twists and turns and red herrings made the story so enjoyable.
I read the mystery in two sittings and encourage readers to plan not to be able to put the book down! It's that good!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Librarian Carrie Singleton is back in this spine-tingling installment of the Haunted Library Series by Allison Brook!
Carrie's dear friend Angela is about to get her happy-ever-after, or at least she thought so until her groom topples into the chocolate fountain at their wedding reception, dead. When it becomes clear that he's been murdered, everyone on the guest list is a suspect, including Carrie. When another member of Angela's family turns up dead, Carrie is determined to catch the killer before they can claim yet another victim.
This is yet another delightful installment in the series by the Agatha-Award-nominated author. From the charming setting to the gripping mystery to the cast of unconventional characters, Death on the Shelf is perfect for cozy mystery fans of all ages.

Filled with engaging fun characters. Set in a cozy town named Clover Ridge. The fourth in the series but can be read as a standalone. Love Carrie! Plenty twists and turns. Packed with action! Thanks #netgalley and #Crookedlanebooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
'Death on the Shelf' had it all for me. The intriguing family relationships, the crossover of storylines, the mystery and new opportunities. I feel as if I am transported to Connecticut in Allison Brook's A Haunted Library Mystery series. The author does a great job of painting a picture of her surroundings and the lives of her characters. The murder of a likeable character was painful, but the intricacies of Carrie's involvement in solving this and a subsequent murder was believable. Her interactions and the trust with her boyfriend are also believable and a highlight of the book for me. I even can deal with the paranormal aspects of the series, which I highly recommend.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
The fifth in the series, Death on the Shelf, is another great book. I like that the main character doesn't do too many foolish things while trying to solve the mystery. The supporting characters were very entertaining; Angela has quite the family. I very much like the end, regarding her personal relationship. I also enjoyed that Carrie helped the young woman who seemed so desperate after her husband left and took all their money.
I try so dang hard to really like Carrie. Because I love Angela, and Dylan, and her dad. I love everyone but Carrie....and Evelyn. My dang conundrum though, is that I love the cozy little mysteries so I deal with whiny Carrie and useless Evelyn. Here's to hoping that Carrie matures and Evelyn starts serving a purpose.
Regardless of how I feel about the main character, the supporting characters are fun and likeable and the storyline is always engaging. Worth picking up!
