Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. What a fast paced twisty book that will keep you guessing until the very end!
Every mothers worst nightmare, a child goes missing and an investigation begins. As we get further into the story, things are not as they seem.
I love the thriller genre and this was no exception. Highly recommended!
Addicting page turner that takes place in beautiful Cyprus! Jo Appleton has a tumultuous relationship with her 16 yr old daughter, Grace, who goes missing without a trace. It’s a race against time trying to figure out what has happened to her. There are many “missing kids” thrillers out there but this one stands out from the rest. Cole brings us a completely unique and fresh approach on the trope. This story reads a bit like a slow burn but the pages flip because of the sinister vibe revealing shocking secrets and unexpected twists until the final chilling end. Seriously, the ending of this story gave me goose bumps! Thank you Netgalley, Mobius Books and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. Available now
Well holy cow! That was not the ending I was expecting at all.
Karen Cole is new to me and I have
to say I have found another favorite author!
She will real you in and keep reading long into the night. I did not want to put this book down.
A must read. And she will be a favorite of all yours as well.
I really enjoyed Karen Cole's Deliver Me and Destroy Me, so I was excited to read Deceive Me...and it ended up being my favorite of her books so far. The characters were interesting, and I liked that the story went back and forth between the past and the present. I had a hard time putting this book down, and wow, what an ending! I didn't see it ending coming at all, and the twists and turns had my head spinning. Thanks to NetGalley and Mobius Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review another great book by Karen Cole. : )
Thank you Netgalley for providing this book for an honest review. I have enjoyed reading books by Karen Cole. The book was told in the format of two timelines. First Joanne is looking for her missing daughter and the second is when Jo is 17 with the story of how she became pregnant. I am very good at guessing endings and I did not see this one coming. This was a great book full of twists.
Grace is 16 years ago, and as a typical teenager hates, her mother. She's seeing a guy that's a little older and her mom and stepfather don't approve.
Grace and mother, Jo, have a very noisy confrontation ending with harsh words and slamming doors. Come Monday morning, Jo drives Grace to school .. in mostly silence... and watches as she walks into the building.
When Jo arrives to pick her up after school, she learns that Grace did not attend any of her classes that day. So where is she?
After many hours, the police believe that Grace is a run away, probably staying with a friend to punish her parents. But Jo thinks otherwise.
Jo starts questioning Grace's friends ... who all seem to know something but will not share any information that they may have. The community starts participating with some people thinking the stepfather knows more than he's telling.
But as Jo gets closer to the truth, she finds that Grace knows the secret that Jo has kept hidden for many years .. and uncovering the secret will destroy the very family that she has tried to protect all these years.
Jo remembers her own home life in detail .. those things that have brought her to this day. She wants desperately to find her child.
Suspenseful from the get-go, the intensity increases and maintains a steady level until the shocking conclusion. Read in 2 sittings, I couldn't seem to tear my eyes away as the twists and turns kept knocking me sideways. I never saw the ending coming ... highly recommended reading!
Many thanks to the author / Mobius Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This was a very well written book. The plot was very enticing and I couldn't put the book down. This was a new to me author and I definitely cannot try another book by this author.
Although I enjoyed this one I felt it focused too much on the past and then rushed the ending. I would have liked to see how things played out a little more / differently.
Jo's teenage daughter, Grace, goes missing one day when she's supposed to be at school. Jo searches everywhere and contacts everyone she knows that may have been in touch with her daughter, but while searching for answers, Jo's fears the worst about secrets being revealed that she hoped would never come to light.
I really enojyed this book; however, I felt like so much information was revealed in the last few chapters, and it seemed like it was a bit rushed. I wish the book would have spread out all of the reveals a little longer that cramming it all in the end. The book was good though, and I would recommend it to my readers!
Deliver Me was my first book by Karen Cole, I read it back in May and I SO enjoyed it. This one didn't disappoint either. I loved that this book was done in the format of two timelines. The first being Joanne looking for her missing daughter and the second is when Jo is 17 and meets her daughters father, while being a babysitter for his family no less. I liked the before chapters the best, it always seems to be that way for me.
All the characters in this story are fully fleshed out, even the secondary ones. I find when that happens I care more about what happens in the book and the people in it. The most enjoyable part of this book was the fact I didn't see that ending coming so good on you Ms. Cole! This could have been a five star read for me and as much as I loved the book, and that ending, it took a long time to get there. BUT...If you enjoy a surprising domestic thriller I highly recommend this one.
I would like to thank the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free e-book ARC to me in exchange for my review.
I feel like I've read this book before. I mean, it reads much like most if not all of the 'domestic/psychological thriller' books from the UK that I've read over the years, but more than that, I feel like I've read THIS book before, but it is a new release, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I didn't like this book. I tried to. I saw it on LOTS of lists and newsletters for the thrillers of the summer, it had a LOT of hype in my corner of the world, and I thought "maybe it will be good then" and requested it. But I did not like this book. IT was too long. The characters were not relatable or believable enough for me to care if they were safe or not, healthy or in danger - I just wanted the book to be over. I finished it this morning and I can't even really recall details about THIS book compared to all the others like it.
But it looks like lots of people like it, so maybe it's just me. I'm rating it 2 stars for 'it was ok' but I feel like I'm being really kind with that rating.
I would not recommend this book for a middle school classroom because of the content and language. However, with those things out of the way, it was a great read. It was a bit slow at first, but then events began to happen and get the reader more engaged. The twist in the plot was amazing and made the entire book a great read. I sympathized with the mom because teenagers are difficult and you never know what is going through their minds.
I'm not sure how to feel about this book. I don't dislike it or like it. The premise is very basic and nothing over the top. If you read the summary, you know it's about a family secret that Joanna is trying to hide. However, 90% of the book surrounds Joanna's past and her trying to find her daughter. Only until the end does the secret reveals and there's not much of an ending. There is a discrepancy in the story that was never addressed or perhaps overlooked. I won't ruin it for any readers. Pay attention to Grace's appearance in connection with Hakan. The ending event seems so unfair to Grace and that's the part that I dislike about the story.
Thank you to Mobius Books and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
That was unexpected and twisted!
If you are looking for a book with an unpredictable ending, this is it! Karen Cole got me with this one, and I’m still processing everything that happened in those final chapters!
Jo’s teenage daughter, Grace, goes missing after being dropped off at school. Where could she be? And if she did run away, why?
It’s a simple plot idea, but the delivery and execution of this story is anything but simple! A must read!

This is a split for me on how to rate. For me, probably one star. I'm very much over the "twist" in thrillers or mysteries to be that the woman was either evil or crazy. This seems to be a very successful plot line "surprise" that many people seem to enjoy though. So, I guess go for it, if that is your thing? A lot didn't make sense in the book, including how druged out Dave would have been able to figure things out. And why weren't they going to the police about everything they found? Because plot I guess. The ending was abrupt and too many things were neatly tied up for it to have much believability.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow I'm not to sure about this one?! It was nothing like I thought it was going to be!! What a crazy story?! This book was just really Idk crazy lol it did keep me interested throughout the whole book, but geez the main character should have gotten what was coming to her! I don't even know how to describe this book without giving to many spoilers! But if you want to read a jaw dropping outcome of a book then definitely read this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Deep, dark secrets. Dysfunctional families. Unrelenting intrigue. And a powerful twist at the end! Yes please!
I really enjoyed watching Jo's story unfold throughout the two timelines, Jo is present day and Jo seventeen years ago!
Deceive Me kept my interest and it started at a very good pace and stayed there,. I found myself so interested in Jo. I was intrigued! Wanting more and this book delivered.
