Wow! Just wow. Is Adele the victim of a vigilante? Or is something more sinister happening around her? Who has a motive to kill all of her exes? And why in order? Dark, thrilling and deeply twisted, this is a must read

Adele is engaged to Tom and is planning their wedding. She is sure that he is the one as she has had five previous serious relationships. When she meets up for drinks with her friend Nicola, she receives a message to say that her first boyfriend, Shaun, had been found hanging in the woods and it appeared to be suicide. Then when Calum, who was Adele’s second boyfriend dies in a car accident she begins to think that someone is killing them. Nobody believes her but then she receives a message threatening to kill all of them including Tom. She begins to suspect everyone and can the killer be found before Tom is the final victim and is there a connection with an injury she receives when she was sixteen years old and resulting in lost memory. I must admit that I found this book a disappointing read. I didn’t particularly like the characters and found the story quite unbelievable, sorry.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

The Boyfriend has such a unique plot, with the main character's ex-boyfriends being killed off one by one... you'll never guess who the killer is!

I enjoyed the premise of this book, but had a hard time staying engaged to the story. At times it was just too wordy in a description and I would skip over it. I am new to Mr. Hurt's work & not sure what to expect. I didn't dislike it & would read something else from him.

Adele is finally in a satisfying relationship with Tom and finally wants to settle down if she would only just stop drinking so much when she goes out with her best friend Nicola. The excessive drinking is starting to cause a rift in her blissful relationship. One day Adele receives a text that her first real boyfriend committed suicide and it hits her very hard and then a short time later another ex dies in an auto accident and but after the third ex-boyfriend, Adele is suspicious that someone is targeting all her ex's and Tom could possibly be next. When she goes to the police they dismiss her as a drama queen until some other unexpected events occur. Why is all this happening around Adele? Can she solve the deadly mystery surrounding herself or does someone want to see Adele dead at the end of all this. Who is targeting Adele and Why?

This was a fast-paced and fun read. There were many humorous moments throughout the story yet it was not a dark or cozy mystery by any means. I found this story to be very entertaining and enjoyable although not a thought provoking type of book but a clever little mystery. I would recommend this book to readers who want a lighter type of mystery for a change of pace. I enjoyed the writing style and would like to read more of Daniel Hurst's books in the future.

I want to thank the publisher "Inkubator Books" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this entertaining story and any thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have given this book a rating of 3 TANTALIZING 🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!

I didn't have a problem with the plot, or the characters. It was a good story.
The reason for my low rating is the ending... I suppose I wanted a more complicated ending if that makes any sense. I would definitely read more of this author's work.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher Inkubator Books for the electronic copy.

The book cover and description really attracted me to read this book.

The book grabs your attention from the beginning and does so until the end. The book was classified as mystery/thriller. I would agree with a bit of mystery but it wasn't a real thriller thankfully. There was just enough tension to keep me reading but without freaking me out.

The concept for this book was quite interesting, however it was extremely boring. The characters were terrible and I just could not get into the plot

"The Boyfriend" was intriguing, while a little slower paced than I would like, the big reveal was done well and halfway through the book, it picks up the pace. I had a harder time empathizing with the main character and the suspense didn't quite build enough for me to ever get truly invested in the story arc. But, overall, I would read it again.

This was a very well written book. The plot was very enticing and I couldn't put the book down. This was a new to me author and I will try another book by this author.

I have read through so many new authors and their psychological thrillers that I didn't expect to find something new in The Boyfriend by Daniel Hurst. But I ended up being surprised by the book - I completed the book in just a few hours and the book was really interesting from the beginning to the end. I loved the way the book has been narrated, which is by the heroine, and the way her character has been written. She is a regular person, with regular hopes and dreams, whom we might meet in any place that we go to. I must say I didn't like her too much nor did I not like her. How she reacts when an unusual thing happens to her also seems very plausible.

Though there are not too many twists and turns in the story, it is a satisfyingly intruding read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a quick psychological thriller.

This book held my interest and unusually for me I had no one suspect in mind which made it an exciting page turner. I found myself changing my mind multiple time who I thought the culprit was. Unfortunately this is where my praise end because I was very disappointed in the ending as without giving away any spoilers it felt extremely random and certain characters who we were meant to end up supporting I felt were very unlikeable.
A big shame as the plot was a great idea.

2 STARS

When I read the details of this book on Netgalley, I thought it had a ton of promise to be a decent book. I was almost right. This book built up the story fairly well but I couldn’t get past how annoying Adele was written. The ending was unexpected and seemed like it had been pulled from a hat almost as there was no indications throughout the story that it might turn the way that it did.

It was a decent read. The premise was interesting.

Another fantastic book by Daniel Hurst I've read and enjoyed every single one. The Boyfriend is such an addictive read, The storyline had me absolutely gripped.

After travelling for several years following her graduation, Adele is back in her home town in the North West of England. She has a job, a fiance and a best friend. Life is good. The only fly in the ointment is occasional migraines resulting from a head injury she sustained 20 years ago, which also left her with memory loss meaning she has no recollection of how the injury happened. Slowly her life begins to unravel following a series of deaths, which initially seem innocent and unrelated - apart from her boyfriends are suddenly dying in the order she dated them.

I was very excited to read this book having loved the author's previous novel The Passenger, which was another great psychological thriller. In comparison, The Boyfriend is a little slower paced to begin with as the threat gradually crystalises, compounded by Adele's increased reliance on alcohol and frustration that she is not being taken seriously, culminating with a nail-biting ending.

Another great read. I can't wait for more.

Adele is a 36-year-old woman who is planning her wedding to Tom who sounds like a near-perfect man although a bit controlling. Then again, Adele seems to need some control since she tends to drink too much when she's out with her friends and behaves like a much younger version of herself. Everything goes haywire when her ex-boyfriends start to die one by one and she doesn't believe it's coincidental.

Although it's not a deep thought-provoking book, I enjoyed it. I've read a few of Daniel Hurst's books recently and like his style although this wasn't one of his better ones. There was some repetition of facts that got annoying after a while and none of the characters made much of an impression, but it was a quick and easy read.

Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book which was released on June 20, 2021.

An engaging story line with bodies falling in every alternate chapter. A crazy boyfriend and a race to save her fiancé, Adele's life is definitely going downhill.
The narrative is engaging for most part but the final chapter seems rushed but am still looking to read more books by the Author

The premise on this one was intriguing and it’s a quick read but not particularly gripping. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and found the ending to be kind of disappointing. Thank you to Netgalley, Inkubator Books, and Daniel Hurst fir the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

⭐️⭐️⭐️: So, this one was slow burn that had potential but fell flat for me. I was only intrigued about 10-15% of the book, I kept checking to see how much farther I had to go. When I was hooked, it was good. It just wasn’t enough. And the end wasn’t someone we had really heard of before so it wasn’t shocking. There were SO many details that just made everything slow. Bummer 👎🏻
