I loved No Exit but this book fell flat for me. The plot was promising and the hook drew me in but about halfway through the action scenes seemed repetitive and unnecessary. Taylor Adams continues to show promise but this book just didn't do it for me.
This book really fell flat for me. I wanted to love it after reading No Exit and I couldn't wait to read it. The characters are good but it becomes very confusing as to whose version of what happened is the real thing that happened.
Lena’s twin sister Cambry ended her life at Hairpin Bridge. The problem? Lena didn’t buy it and a mysterious suicide text led her to believe the state trooper Corprate Raycevic was behind the murder of her sister. She decided to drive out to Montana to confront her murderer and uncover the truth.
I enjoyed the first half of the book and the unraveling mystery. However the second half the story just stalled and at the end I just didn’t really care about any of the characters to care how the story unraveled. The narrative of the story also kept switching from different characters which was a bit confusing to me at times.
I think people who enjoy intense action sequence like car chase and gun fights would enjoy this, but not my kind of thriller
Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC copy for my review.
“He caught himself staring, too. At her. She looks exactly like her sister did. There were superficial differences — Lena had long hair and bangs, while Cambry’s had been self-cut and ponytailed…Underneath all of it was the same person, somehow. That they must have tried so hard to be different, to forge their own selves — maybe that made it all the more tragic that they couldn’t escape each other. Jesus Christ. He had to marvel. It’s like looking at Cambry’s ghost.”
I have been obsessed with identical twins my whole life. I remember reading my mothers Good Housekeeping magazines as a child when they had the twin retreat, and reading it over and over imagining what it would be like to have someone that looks just like you! It is just fascinating to me. So because of this, and because I enjoyed No Exit, which I read in 2019, I decided to request the arc of this book.
Hairpin Bridge started out so strong right out of the gate! I knew this was going to be one wild ride. Estranged identical twins, one either murdered or a victim of suicide. A creepy old abandoned bridge. A deep ravine. A crooked cop. The surviving twin out for answers and revenge. This had all of the makings of a great thriller! But at about the halfway mark I started losing interest. There is a gunfight that is dragged out wayyyy longer than would even be appropriate in a movie. And then some twists and turns that were just…ummm.. questionable, shall I say? Overall an enjoyable read, though. I just wish that the intensity at the beginning of the book could have sustained to the end.

This is a very interesting story that was really hard to rate. It's incredibly unique in the way that it's written and the way the characters interact. It's just that it was almost too far fetched at some points. Anyway, I'll get to that more in just a little bit.
In this story, Lena Nguyen has been investigating her ’s estranged twin sister Cambry's death. According to the police reports, only three months ago, she drove 200 miles from Missoula, Montana, went to a remote location and jumped about two hundred feet leading to her death.
Lena has asked Corporal Raymond Raycevic to meet her at the location where her sister died and he agrees. He feels bad for her and meets her to help ease her mind by telling her exactly what happened from his point of view since he is the one who found her body. Now, Lena has asked him there for just a bit more. You see, she wants to know why there were numerous missed 911 calls made from her sisters phone and why Raycevic pulled her over just one hour before her death. But that might not have made Lena want to speak to this specific cop had it not been that Cambry's very last call mentioned him by name.
As the story starts falling into place things take a very dangerous turn and Lena may just be in a fight for her own life.
I'll leave it there. This story rating changed in my mind from a 3 to a 3 1/2 to a 4 so many time is was giving me a headache. It has parts that are almost so incredibly out there you can just about laugh at it but then there are some parts that are so edge of your seat gripping you can't read fast enough. In the end I went with the four star because the story is very well written and I read this days ago and am still thinking about it.
Do I recommend this? I do. I think if you are curious about this book then you should do yourself the favor and read it. It's worth it.
Thank you so much to Netgalley, the publisher, the author, etc. for the advanced copy of this book for review! I can't thank you enough!
I loved - loved, LOVED - No Exit. But for some reason, something about Hairpin Bridge just missed the mark with me. This isn't for lack of trying, either.
Hairpin Bridge was my first book by Taylor Adams, and I really enjoyed his writing style. I can see this book being the basis for a blockbuster movie. The book started out with a bang, but there were sections where it seemed to be a little repetitive and dragging on. I really wasn’t a big fan of the changing viewpoints, either. I understand the need for multiple narrators in some books, however I found that the multiple viewpoints muddled the story, and more than once, I ended up confusing which one of the twins was speaking at the time, even though they were portrayed as being such distinct personalities. It was still a good read and I know that I will be reading more of his books very soon.
I’m grateful to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the opportunity to read and review Hairpin Bridge.

When Lena’s twin sister allegedly commits suicide on Hairpin Bridge, something doesn’t feel quite right. She launches her own investigation into the death of her sister, Cambry. I pick up thrillers because they’re generally quick reads and something I can let myself get lost in, and this one was a fast and intense ride that I really enjoyed it. I didn’t see many of the twists (I never do), and it certainly had me turning the pages as fast as I could. I have yet to read his previous novel, No Exit, and from the reviews I’ve read of this one, No Exit is better…so that makes me excited to give Taylor Adams another shot!
I was so excited to read this book. One of my most anticipated books after reading No Exit. Unfortunately, this one I DNF'd at 100 pages. This one did not capture my attention at all. The story dragged on and on. I just couldn't connect with the story nor cared about the characters and was bored. No way will this deter me from picking up Taylor Adams' future works. Thank you to NetGalley, Publisher and Author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
After seeing all the rave reviews about No Exit, I jumped (no pun intended) on the chance to get Hairpin Bridge early. Yet, this was not what I expected. It tried to be fast-paced, but I was often lost with the flipping back and forth between the present, the main character's blog posts, and her sister's story. I will also admit, I am not a gun person. I have never shot one, so all the gun actions and descriptions flew over my head. I debated giving up on this book about 40% in. Without giving too much away, I did not guess the ending, which is always a big plus for me.
This book was not for me. Read if you love guns, books that use multiple means to tell the story (shory within a story, blog posts, etc.), and creepy highway tales.
I picked up Hairpin Bridge and read it in one sitting. It was full of layers, twists and turns. The twin sisters story Cambry and Lena is so believable and real. The book played out like an action movie and the ending surprised me. I am going to pick up another one of Taylor's novels he is very talented. Thanks to Net Galley for an advanced reading copy of this novel. #HAIRPINBRIDGE #NetGalley
An electrifying thriller by an author I will definitely be seeking out in future. Be warned: this is an adrenalin rush of a book. You will find yourself in vicarious peril, second by second. You will live through a victim's last day, You will feel hunted, scared and determined to find the truth. At times I had to take a breather and check I was still at home in my bed.
Lena is on the tail of her late sister Cambry and the story is told by her, Cambry and the mysterious officer Ray Reycevic. The sense of menace is palpable throughout and the suspense is taut as a wire, If you're looking for a cosy read with a happy ending, this isn't it. If you want to be scared witless, this is the book for you. It's not for the faint hearted but it is a thrilling roller coaster ride of a book.
3.5 stars
This is my second novel by this author, the first being No Exit. In both, a strong female protagonist fights for her life against unseemingly insurmountable villians who stack odds of survival aggressively and hellishly against them. This author does a great job confusing good vs evil, making us the heart-racing reader unsure who to trust or believe.
While Adams certainly creates plots that quicken pulses and turn pages with maddening speed, for me the details are often so unfathomable that I struggled to believe them. I also found myself often confused as the story wove back and forth through time and viewpoints. I struggled to keep things straight and found myself skimming, looking for points of re-entry.
Overall, solid thriller with the exoected tensiin, gore and violence readers expect from a Taylor Adams book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review!
Maybe my expectations were just a bit too high after the thriller masterpiece that is No Exit, but I struggled with this one. Now don't get me wrong, Taylor Adams can WRITE. His talent is undeniable and this was still a solid thriller. However, it wasn't on the same level as his previous novel. Hairpin Bridge gets a solid 3-3.5 stars from me. I'll read anything this guy does, but I'm definitely crossing my fingers for another edge-of-your-seat, can't-put-down, read-in-one-sitting type book from him in the future! Thank you Netgalley for my advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
I really did not enjoy this book. I don't have a lot to say besides that I did not approve how suicide was used as a plot point in this book. It also does not seem like the same author as No Exit. That book was suspenseful and immersive. This book just fell flat and problematic.
I absolutely loved No Exit and was super excited to get a chance to read the ARC for Hairpin Bridge. Sadly I think I raised my expectations too much and felt this one was not up to the same level.
I found the pace of the twists and turns a little much, almost like Adams wasn't sure where it was going and decided on the plot twists as he went along, without considering the story as a whole before writing. It felt a little rushed in its execution and some areas were just confusing how they switched back and forth with the characters, I felt like I had too many moments of "is it, isn't it, oh it is, no wait it isn't, oh actually it is..."
*potential spoiler*
The Cambry chapters felt odd to me too, they were Lena's view of what she would have been thinking, maybe it would have been more powerful/gripping to have given more of an insight into what actually happened from her point of view in those chapters - but then maybe it was needed for the ending twist.
I like Adam's writing style and will definitely pick up his next book, however, I feel that this may have been a "we need to get a book out asap" moment and he wasn't given the time needed to execute his actual vision - the acknowledgments section feel a little like that at least.
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for a copy of the ARC in return for my honest review.
Lena's estranged twin sister Cambry jumped off of Hairpin Bridge, also dubbed "Suicide Bridge" in a remote part of Montana three months ago. The only suicide note she left behind was a vague text to Lena, in which she mentioned an Officer Raycevic. Unsurprisingly, Lena suspects murder and decides to go to Montana to investigate for herself, even if it costs her her life. She brings her old school audio recorder and plans to publish everything she finds on her blog. But what truth will she find?
Hairpin Bridge is a fast-paced thriller that goes between the present (Lena investigating in Montana), the past (Cambry's story leading up to her jump), and blog posts that Lena wrote leading up to her investigation. While it was a dark story, I loved all of the twists and turns that continued to pop up throughout the whole book.
An action packed tale of one sister’s search for the truth behind her twin’s death.
This book has gotten a lot of mixed reviews. I was hesitant to read it but I’m glad I listened to it because the audio was fantastic! I was riveted by the story which was pretty action packed. The plot line gets pretty far fetched but like with any fun action movie - you just have to go with all the shoot outs, things getting blown up and the unassuming MC getting the best of the bad guys. That’s the fun of it! Where else can a regular girl armed with a tape recorder whose sole back up in the entire world is her laptop seek justice and come out on top? I mean come on…I ate that ish up. And before you ask - yes, I obviously do love over the top action movies!
So, if you enjoy action, badass heroines and reading a book that will fill you with tension until the end - this one is for you! Loved it! The only complaint I had is that I struggled a bit at times to follow the POVs via the audio. It wasn’t always initially clear whose POV it had jumped to but it also helped fuel my overall sense of questioning everything so I wasn’t too mad at it.
Adams’ “No Exit “ is an all time favorite so I was very excited to read Hairpin Bridge! Lena’s twin sister, Cambry, drove out to a remote area, and fell to her death from Hairpin Bridge. But, Lena doesn’t believe that was the whole story. So she heads to the Bridge to interview the officer that found her. But, Lena find herself in danger as well! This one kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!! Don’t miss out on this one!
A ton of twists and turns that kept me flipping the pages, Adams is definitely a great thriller writer! Some parts fell a little flat for me, but ultimately a really enjoyable read.
