A bizarre read! Okay, first off all I want to say that I absolutely loved No Exit and when I saw this new release by Taylor Adams I jumped at the chance to be an early reader. I have to admit I am disappointed with this book. For some reason I had a hard time connecting with the characters and keeping interest in the book, therefore it was a very slow read for me. This book is just odd in the weird sense. I’m sorry. I really wanted to love this book, but I just didn’t. I’ll still pick up the next release from Taylor Adams and believe it will be wonderful. Thanks to Taylor Adams, Joffe Books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read Hairpin Turn.
I feel like I have a very unpopular opinion, but this story just didn't do it for me. I think I would have loved it if it'd been a short story rather than a novel, but I felt it was redundant. There are only so many car chase scenes and shootouts I can handle. The writing was good, but I don't think I will recommend this to friends.
I read No Exit a few years ago and absolutely loved the wild journey. Hairpin Bridge is very similar in that the action starts from the first chapter and doesn't let up until the very end. I enjoyed the read and it kept me captivated the entire time.
Now, this won't be a thriller for everyone. If you're looking for a believable thriller - this is not for you. If you don't enjoy books with gorey details - this is not for you. If you're sensitive to topics like rape and suicide - this is not for you. If you love crazy mysteries with a lot of tension and a ton of action (gunfights?!) - this book is for you!
Like I said above, I really enjoyed reading this book, just not as much as I enjoyed No Exit. I didn't figure out the mystery right away and I really enjoyed that there was quite a bit of character development for both Lena and Cambry. Understanding their relationship as twins really added to the story. However, I could have done without the mental health aspects. To me they didn't add to the story in any way other than to try and make it unclear if Cambry and Lena were reliable. It's a tired trope.
If you're a fan of thrillers, I recommend picking this one up and heading to the beach or park for a day of reading. You'll be able to get through this one in just a few hours - it moves quickly.
4.25 stars
Twins Lena and Cambry took different paths in life, but when Cambry dies of an apparent suicide, Lena doesn’t buy it. She believes her twin would have never killed herself and decides to investigate the incident by herself. All she wants is the truth, and she is willing to do risk whatever it takes to get it.
The idea for the plot was fantastic, and with a tweak, it could even be a stage play as it mainly takes place in one place. It certainly has the tension for it! Lena offers us three different accounts: entries of a book she wrote relating Cambry’s last days, posts from her Blog about her decision to visit the place her twin allegedly committed suicide and interview the cop who found her, and her first-person account of the events that happened to her at Hairpin Bridge.
I loved Lena as much as I disliked Cambry. My heart ached for the latter, and she was dealt a bad hand at crucial parts of her life that led to her being so unlikeable. With that said, Adams did a great job humanizing her and making us feel bad for where her story ended, even if most of it directly resulted from her conscious choices. On the other hand, Lena is almost the polar opposite; she has been afraid her whole life but suddenly became the female Chuck Norris. Say what you want about Lena, she is someone who is trying to right her wrongs, and I can only respect that.
Hairpin Bridge was my first Taylor Adams book, and I loved it! I was literally on the edge of my seat from the first chapter. The ball never dropped! It was a thoroughly exciting thriller, but quite a bit of disbelief suspension is needed! For one, I don’t mind it when the experience makes up for it, and that was the case with Hairpin Bridge. I can’t help but think that I would have liked this to be a shorter book, though. I think had this been a novella; it would have been perfect! But, whatever the size, this will make a great movie!
Every good action movie is an exaggerated version of reality; this book is no different. There are some extreme liberties and major questionable incidents, but I chose to look past them because they were used in a way that amped up the adrenaline and thrills. There are some scenes in the account of Cambry’s story that are genuinely terrifying. Adams also gave us so many twists and turns; I felt I had to keep reading to find out where else the story could go! And it went to exciting places.
Hairpin Bridge is a book to enjoy and not overthink. It left me wanting more from Adams and I might have to pick up some of his other books, I hope they are as thrilling as this one!
Disclaimer: I first read it as an ARC. In exchange for an honest review, I am thankful to Joffe Books, Taylor Adams, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of Hairpin Bridge.
Who else loved No Exit?!
Taylor Adams has written another riveting, fast paced thriller that entertained me completely. Three months ago, Lena’s twin sister, Cambry drove to a remote bridge in Montana and jumped two hundred feet to her death…. or at least that the official police version. Lena doesn’t buy that story and has returned to the same bridge determined to find out what really happened by interviewing the highway patrolman who discovered her sister’s body.
First off, this book is totally ridiculous… but like in the best way possible. It is totally unrealistic but it’s also addicting. This book got me out of a major slump and I thought about it all night after finishing. It’s dark, twisty, and reminded me a lot of scary movies where the bad guy keeps coming back to life!
Will this one be for everyone? Nope. But if you can suspend disbelief and just ride this one out, you’ll find yourself along for one intense roller coster! Four stars!

Taylor Adams does it again! No Exit is a favorite of mine but this one goes down a different road, to remote bridge, Hairpin Bridge. Lena is on the hunt to find out the truth about what happened to her twin sister 3 months ago. They called it a suicide, but even as different as the sisters are, something is not right. As Lena does some investigation to uncover the truth knowing her twin would not kill herself. she narrows in on the last moments of Camby's life, But now Lena is now fighting for her own survival. The end really pulls it all together with unexpected twist.
4 stars Fast paced! Action packed! Recommend
I loved No Exit-it was a creepy, page-turning thriller so I was so excited for the author's newest book. Unfortunately, this wasn't my favorite thriller. It was a quick read but I just didn't connect with the characters too well and the multiple points of view ended up being a little confusing to me. I wasn't sure if it was a reliable narrator or not. However, it was hard to put down because I wanted to find out what happened. It was pretty action packed at times and I think a good psychological thriller that had me guessing throughout but it just wasn't my favorite book. I do look forward to future books by this author!
*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. Opinions are my own.
I’m sorry. I really wanted to like this one.
Lena sets out to get the real story of her twin sister Cambry’s death. It was ruled as a suicide but Lena has suspicions that it was murder, and she suspects it was the Highway Patrol Officer that was the last person to see her alive.
Car chases and gun fights on a continuous loop in redundant detail got boring very quickly. And Cambry’s story being told by Lena based on her assumptions? I don’t know, I spent a lot of time confused and waiting for the twist at the end to make it make sense, to no avail. This one was just okay for me.
I absolutely loved No Exit so I was super excited to be able to read Hairpin Bridge. This is the third book I’ve read from Taylor Adams. Hairpin Bridge takes place in Montana and is about a young woman who learns that her twin sister tragically dies on Hairpin Bridge and drives out to the bridge to figure out how she died. Overall, I had mixed feelings about this book. I didn’t like it as much as No Exit. The plot of the book is very intriguing, however, the execution of the book was meh. The car chase at the beginning grabbed my attention, but then it got too drawn out. The writing style ended up being repetitive and I started to lose interest in the characters on the middle. Once I got to the last quarter of the book, things picked up and got interesting. The book ended up being a low 3 stars for me.

I was heavily influenced here on bookstagram to read Adam’s book, No Exit and it immediately became one of my favourite thrillers ever!! Non-stop suspense and twists I did not see coming!
When I heard of Adam’s new book, Hairpin Bridge, I could not wait to get my hands on it!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Three months ago, Lena Nguyen’s estranged twin sister, Cambry, drove to a remote bridge sixty miles outside of Missoula, Montana, and jumped two hundred feet to her death. At least, that is the official police version. But Lena isn’t buying it. Now she’s come to that very bridge, driving her dead twin’s car and armed with a cassette recorder, determined to find out what really happened by interviewing the highway patrolman who allegedly discovered her sister’s body.
This one started off great and very suspenseful, however it lost me at times. This story switched back and forth between two different timelines, Cambry’s story and Lena’s. The majority of this book takes place over the span of a few hours, which is a very small time frame. Unfortunately, I lost interest at times with how dragged out the story seemed to get around the halfway point. Of course, this one picked up again close to the end, but it wasn’t enough for me.
I didn’t love this book, but I didn’t hate it either. I’m somewhere in between. As any review, take mine with a grain of salt.
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @joffebooks for an eArc copy of Hairpin Bridge in exchange for my honest review. #NetGalley #HairpinBridge #TaylorAdams
Lena Nguyen sets out for Montana on a quest to find out what happened to her sister, Cambry. The official report is that she jumped off a bridge, but Lena knows that’s not the truth. Armed with an old fashioned tape recorder, she’s convinced she can get the officer who found Cambry’s body to confess he murdered her. Lena just knows Officer Raycevic killed Cambry, but she needs to prove it and get closure. But what she comes to find out is way more than she could even imagine. I really liked Lena- she was fiercely determined and clever.
There was a lot of layers to this that I didn’t see coming. If you’ve read No Exit by Adams, expect the same gruesome and gory details- I mean really graphic- so be warned. This one started out rather slow for me but overall it was a really gripping horror novel! It is full of tense moments that kept me hooked.
Happy Pub Day!! I would like to thank NetGalley the author and publisher for the opportunity to read this crazy thriller!
Lena Nguyen is investigating the suspicious death of her twin sister Cambry. According to police, Cambry’s death was ruled a suicide where she drove out to Hairpin bridge and leapt to her death. Lena arranges a meeting with the responding officer Corporal Raymond Raycevic, the patrol officer who discovered Cambry’s body and the last person to see Cambry alive. Armed with her tape recorder, Lena is determined to discover the truth of what happened to her sister, things aren’t adding up. As she digs herself deeper and deeper into the truth, Lena finds herself in a life and death situation fighting not only for her sister’s truth but also her own life.
This was one wild ride, I seriously felt like I was holding my breath the whole time I was reading this one. My adrenaline was pumping and I could NOT stop turning the pages to find out what happened. There was so much build up which in my opinion, I believe delivered. I will say, there is A LOT going on in this book. I can def see some people getting lost a little bit with the various different viewpoints. There are 3 character viewpoints, then the viewpoint from Cambry’s book and the viewpoint from Lena’s blog. I did get a little confused on what was real and what wasn’t because so many things are thrown out there that it was hard to tell truth from lie. Some parts did seem a little unrealistic but hey, it is a fiction novel and was super entertaining. I felt like I could see the scenes being played out in my head, there was so much detail and yes some of it very graphic, it added to the intensity of the story. I enjoyed the ending as well, I really liked how each chapter would end on one note and then instantly pick up but from a different character’s point of view. I have yet to read No Exit but it is on my TBR and after reading this one I can’t wait to dive in!
I loved No Exit and was so excited to get to read this. It was engaging, thrilling and I was in the edge of my seat the whole time. I had no idea what was going to happen with Lena and Ray, every twist was shocking. I love this style of writing.
Full disclosure: No Exit is one of my favorite thrillers of all time. So that said, it’s a hard act to follow. My expectations for Hairpin Bridge were *very* high.
And for the most part, I liked it a lot. It kept me on the edge of my seat, compulsively turning the pages to see what would happen next. There is an excellent badass heroine & some great twists I didn’t see coming (& some I did). It was gruesome & violent. And it had a satisfying ending.
We follow Lena as she travels to the scene of her twin sisters’s death, intent to prove she didn’t commit suicide. That she was, in fact, murdered by a crooked cop. Because she saw something she shouldn’t have.
Mostly my only issue was the structure. The back & forth between present, past, & blog posts...It was sometimes confusing to figure out what had actually happened & what was wishful thinking/imagination on Lena’s part. It seemed unnecessarily convoluted. Though necessary to pull off some of those twists!
Lena's twin sister is reported to have jumped to her death off of Hairpin bridge. But Lena doesn't believe that! Now she is about to meet the officer who found Chambry and hear what he has to say about what happened.
Can she believe what the officer has to say?
The entirety of the book is set at or near Hairpin Bridge. Lena tells Chambry's story by what Lena thinks happened to her sister. I would prefer to have a change of scene now and then and for Chambry to tell her own story.
The things that happen are a little farfetched, but still a good book nonetheless.
Thanks to netgalley and Joffe Books for the arc.
Lena Nguyen is looking for answers ... for the truth. Her identical twin sister drove to a little-known bridge and supposedly jumped 200 feet to her death. That is what the police have determined.
But Lena doesn't believe her sister committed suicide.
She' made arrangements to meet the highway patrolman who found her sister's body at the scene of the "accident". The cop's story just doesn't seem to make sense. He stopped Lena's sister for speeding a full hour before she supposedly leapt to her death. Then there are the sixteen attempted 911 calls from her cell phone, made in what was unfortunately a dead zone. But most of all, he can't explain why her sister's very last text mentioned him personally.
But what if things didn't happen the way the police report cited? What if the policeman lied about how he found her? What if he killed her? Why would he have reason to kill her ... did she see or hear something she shouldn't have? And how is Lena going to prove what her sister's last movements were?
It's a complex plot, filled with twists and turns that rival a roller coaster. The sisters' backstories give a glimpse into their lives, how different twin sisters can be. It's deep, it's dark, a true page turner. It's gripping, it's riveting.
Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Books n All Book Promotions / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own
A hairpin turn into a twisty, turny wowser of an ending
The last book I read by author Taylor Adams was another winner - NO EXIT - and I can remember thinking that I was going to keep my eyes open for other books by this exciting thriller writer.
So when I was offered the chance to read HAIRPIN BRIDGE I jumped at the chance.
I enjoyed this psychological thriller from the very beginning. It is told from the viewpoint of twin sisters - one living and one dead.
Lena Nguyen heads to rural Montana to find out what really happened to her wild child twin sister, Cambry, who supposedly jumped to her death from the Hairpin Bridge. Lena and her sister haven't been close but she doesn't believe Cambry would have killed herself. So she searches out the last person to have seen her sister, Montana State Trooper Raymond Raycevic, and a deadly cat and mouse game begins between the two of them.
This is definitely a book that kept me guessing until the very final page. At times it seemed, well maybe a bit much, but what the heck, I still loved it. It was a roller coaster plunging, bungee jumping, cliff diving thrill a minute and I highly recommend it.
Don't go into it thinking you have it figured out. I can pretty much bet you don't.
I received this book from William Morrow Books and Joffe Books through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
HAPPY PUB DAY TAYLOR ADAMS 🎈
well this one was quite a ride 😅 first- thank you to @netgalley & @joffebooks for this eARC! Hairpin Bridge releases TODAY!
this was my first Taylor Adams read and I must say that I really enjoy the writing style. it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the book.
as much as this book was intense, I felt like it dragged on a bit. the setting doesn’t change (like, at all) so *spoiler alert* expect to remain on Hairpin Bridge for the entirety of the book. (not a fan)
one thing I loved was the resilience of Lena. it’s been a while since I’ve read something with a character I thoroughly enjoyed or could relate to, so this was refreshing! plus, I love a headstrong main character, especially when she’s a woman!
Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams is a thriller about twin sisters. Cambry supposedly committed suicide by jumping off a remote bridge, but Lena doesn't believe it. She meets with the highway patrolman who found Cambry's body to hear the story from him. Corporal Raymond Raycevic is hiding something, and Lena is determined to get the whole story. This book was so over-the-top unbelievable that I had a hard time finishing it. I did enjoy the author's first book, No Exit. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
I had such high hopes for Taylor Adams's next book after being on the edge of my seat the entire time I read his last book, No Exit. However, his latest book, Hairpin Bridge, missed the mark for me. Similar to No Exit, this book takes place mostly in one place with no easy way to escape. In this case, the characters are trapped together near the bridge the story is centered around. I felt like the action scenes were drawn out and wished things would just happen already at multiple points in the book. I did appreciate the mystery and how it was tied up at the end but even that felt rushed and just kind of weird compared to the drawn out scenes that occurred for the first 3/4 of the book to get to any type of reveal. It's a fast read but just didn't quite live up to what I expected from Adams’.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #WilliamMorrow for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
