I was really excited to read Hairpin Bridge and I’m always down for a good page turner. This one fell a bit flat for me, however. I never could get overly invested in the main character, Lena, and I felt like things took forever to happen. I didn’t love the back and forth of Lena’s perspective, to her writing as if she was Cambry, to her blog, and then finally a few random chapters from the perspectives of the bad guys. It was all a bit much and it just made the story feel very disjointed. I found Lena’s journey hard to believe and I just felt like things were a little far fetched. The more I learned about Cambry, the less invested I became in her story, as well.
I did like the small twist at the end and I did read this fairly fast. If you’re wanting a true fast paced thriller, this might not be the one for you.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the ARC of this novel!
So I was a HUGE fan of No Exit so when this one came up, I jumped on it. The writing was still just as good as No Exit, but it was a bit more confusing. All the road scenes got a bit confusing and I don't think it was as strong as No Exit. Still a fun thriller though!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!

Taylor Adams has written another thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish! Hairpin Bridge is not just any bridge to Lena Nguyen. This is the bridge where Lena’s sister committed suicide a few months ago. Or at least that’s what the police report says. Lena believes something different unfolded at Hairpin bridge 3 months ago and she is determined to find out what exactly happened, and find justice for her sister. I couldn’t read this one fast enough.

The line between the truth and lies was constantly blurring and I was hit with twist after twist. As we alternate between different characters POV’s, blog posts, and the book Lena is working on we begin to piece together what exactly happened to Lena’s sister. This book is not for the faint of heart and is quite gory at times. It deals with serious themes so read the CW’s with caution. If you’re looking for a one-sitting cinematic thriller this is the book for you.

CW: suicide, violence, mentions of rape, racial micro aggressions
3.5 stars ⭐️ Hairpin Bridge is undoubtedly an action-packed and intense thriller. The no-holds-barred plot primarily takes place in one location but so much happens that the single setting works well for the story. The plot unfolds as Lena Nguyen meets Corporal Raymond Reycevic at the site of her sister’s presumed suicide to uncover the truth behind her death. As expected, both Lena and Ray have hidden motives that lead to a tense stand-off and surprise (!) revelations. While the book has a lot of potential with its riveting storyline, I struggled to fully get into it because of Ray’s character specifically. His actions really confused me and I finished the book without understanding the inconsistencies and nuances in his personality. Yes, it’s more of a plot-driven book than a character-driven book but when there are only two(ish) main characters, I would like more insight into their actions. Overall, I think it’s worth reading if you enjoyed No Exit and you’re looking for another quick and slightly disturbing book to binge-read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I tore through Taylor Adams's No Exit, so I was excited for his latest thriller, but the story did not grab me like I expected it to. Essentially the entire book takes place in the same setting (Hairpin Bride, hence the title), with some flashbacks to the night Cambry died and some entries from Lena's blog. There were too many "shoot-out" scenes for my taste, and I also didn't like any of the characters. Although there are several twists towards the end, I didn't necessarily buy them. It serves its purpose as a mindless thriller read, but it was not my favorite from this author.
Taylor Adams writes a unique and different thriller in Hairpin Bridge. The main character goes in search of someone, she isn't quite sure who at the beginning, killed her identical twin sister on Hairpin Bridge. The family was told that the errant twin committed suicide and the case was closed. Her sister doesn't believe it. She sets up a meeting with the state trooper who found her body, taping the conversation and expertly questioning him about the event. Police records indicate the trooper had pulled the twin sister over two hours before her alleged suicide and the surviving twin is suspicious. To say more would give away the plot of this amazing thriller. Twists, turns, added characters, and events of the past are spun into an effective story that keeps the reader entertained. for lovers of thrillers, I highly recommend this book. It will keep you reading past lights out! You will be entertained and enthralled. Thanks to #HairpinBridge#NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
While this didn't live up to No Exit for me, it still had me turning the pages and guessing along the way.
Lena Nguyen’s twin sister Cambry supposedly jumped off the “suicide bridge” in a remote part of Montana 6 months ago, but she isn’t buying it. As Lena sets up an interview with the highway patrolman Corporal Raymond Raycevic, the officer who recovered Cambry’s body, Lena is equipped with a tape recorder and all her questions hoping to catch Raycevic in a lie. What she doesn’t realize, is her attempts to discover the truth will lead to her own fight for survival.
The writing style was told from multiple points of view which was a little difficult to grasp at first, but the author used different fonts or bolder words to distinguish between them. Some of the gun fight descriptions were very detailed, and I know nothing about guns, but I feel the author did very well at keeping me engaged in what was going on.
Thank you @netgalley and for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub date is June 15. This book had my heart pumping from the very beginning, and the last 25% was very riveting I couldn’t put it down.
I didn't love No Exit but it was still a can't put down kind of book. I did not get that same feeling from Hairpin Bridge and found several inconsistencies and overall flaws with this story. There were a few key elements to the book that were completely implausible and I like my thrillers to have some reality to them. One character is also anti-Asian and while this says more to his character, this did not sit well with me and I cringed every time this character made a comment. Overall, felt like this was a flop of a book.
Thank you for my advanced copy.
Cambry was running for her life. A cop chasing after her. She saw what she shouldnt. Cambry died minutes later who they believe she killed herself at Hairpin Bridge. Cambry's twin sister, Lena, believes Cambry was murdered by the cop who chased after Cambry. Lena desperately wants to find out the truth.
Ok.. i honestly do not enjoy this book as much as i thought i would. I was excited when i saw so many good reviews. I am pleased to have this advance copy. But i find myself struggled to get thru. Theres too many unncessary details i feel. At some point i almost give up. I really really want to like it. The story concept is good but... i really feel bad that i didnt enjoy it.
Taylor Adams is back with another fast-paced thriller that will steal sleep away from you.
Lena isn't close with her twin sister, Cambry. In fact, they haven't spoken to each other in a very long time. But when Lena gets a cryptic message from her sister and finds out that she died falling from Hairpin Bridge, she is devastated. Lena doesn't believe it's suicide and she doesn't believe the sketchy Officer Raymond. Something isn't adding up and Lena is determined to find out what actually happened to her sister.
After reading his debut novel, No Exit, I became an immediate fan. Hairpin Bridge is another winner from Adams. I honestly don't know how he does it, but he does it so well. One thing I enjoy about Adams' novels is the female heroines that are at the centre of his novels. Another thing is the pacing of his novels. They're always strong such strong characters. Somehow, he manages to create thrillers that are always action-packed and intense. His writing style is also very easy to read and enjoy. It's the reason I read this novel in two sittings.
I loved the storyline of this novel. It was told in the present tense as Lena is searching for answers and in the past tense, from Cambry. I think there were times where the two storylines were a little confusing to me, but if you put those aside, the novel flows fairly well. I loved the backstory about Lena and Cambry's relationship, and I wish I got a little more of that. In the present, the novel takes place all in one night, which does make the story more rapid in terms of its pacing.
I really liked the plot twists in this one. They might be as easy to guess, but there's a few that were a little shocking. Overall, it's another solid thriller from Adams. If you're looking for a fast and action-packed thriller, this one checks every single box.
Thank you to HarperCollins and William Morrow Books for providing me with an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
I liked this book and found it entertaining, but I didn't love it in the same way that I loved No Exit. I didn't like either of the main characters in Hairpin Bridge. Both Lena and Cambry made decisions the same way that dumb teenagers in horror movies do, as opposed to ones made by functioning adults. I didn't think the flashbacks added anything to the story, as Lena told the reader throughout the book that she and her twin weren't really that close.
Overall, this was a quick read and something that could be enjoyed during a long airplane ride, and I would recommend it as such.
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the ARC!
Thank you to the publisher of the book for an e-galley. I loved No Exit by Taylor Adams so was really excited to read this early. I was a bit disappointed because I didn’t like it nearly as much. I need a character to like and I didn’t like any of these characters. I didn’t find the story disturbing as I’ve seen people commenting online. It was a fast read and kept me entertained which is why I gave it 3 stars.
Holy cats what a wild ride this was. I think this is even better than No Exit. I read it in one sitting.
Lena Nguyen knows her twin sister did not commit suicide. She is determined to find out what really happened on that bridge on June 6 (which coincidentally is the day I read this book). She meets with Corporal Raymond Raycevic, the last person to see her sister alive and the one to discover her body, to find out what really happened. Unfortunately, despite telling herself she is prepared for anything, Lena uncovers a lot more than she bargained for.
There are a lot of twists and turns on the Hairpin Bridge, literally and figuratively in this case. The author throws out a lot of red herrings and just when you think you have it all figured out, something else comes out of the woodwork. This had the possibility of feeling very disjointed but it was nothing of the kind. The plot is woven seamlessly with misdirections and multiple questions. I do feel the ending was a bit formulaic for this author if you have read No Exit. Regardless, this was an enjoyable, edge of my seat thriller. Taylor Adams has a true flare for suspense. I look forward to his next book.
I know I'm not alone when I say, I've read and loved No Exit and was so excited to read Hairpin Bridge! This book is about Lena who cannot wrap her head around her sister committing suicide three months ago. The police believe that Cambry drove to a remote bridge and jumped off. There is enough evidence to prove that this was a suicide and nothing more. Lena cannot believe this, some things just don't add up. So she decides to drive up to this bridge and meet the last person who seen her sister alive. Sounds smart right?🙄
.
This is probably one of the most suspenseful books that I have read in awhile. Everytime I thought I had the story figured out, we were hit with another twist. I honestly just didn't know who to believe. The storyline altered between two timelines; Cambrys story and Lena's. I'm not sure what timeline I rathered but I thoroughly enjoyed Lenas timeline with her blog posts. If we're being totally honest, once I finished the story I'm still not 100% sure what the whole truth was. I think my only real complaint is I wasn't 100% obsessed with the ending as much as I hoped to be
A thrilling, fast paced, suspenseful story with a ridiculous amount of twists and turns with a few HOLY CRAP moments thrown in! Make sure you set aside some time for this one because you won't want to put it down. Just when you think you've figured out what happened, the story turns on its head once again.
But with that being said, I found myself confused when I first started it, to the point where I reread the first few chapters 3 different times to try to make sense of it. There were so many twists that when I finished I felt a little confused on what actually happened to Cambry. Maybe it's me. But it was still my favorite book of 2021 so far.
Oh my word, Taylor Adams does it again! This book had my adrenaline running, my heart was racing and I could not stop thinking about it while I wasn't reading it
Hairpin Bridge is about Lena, whose twin Cambry recently died by suicide. Lena doesn't think this is true, there is no way Cambry would do that and she sets out to prove her sister was murdered. She ends up on Hairpin Bridge, the placed her sister died, with the cop who found her body.
The entire story (except for some flashbacks) takes place in such a short period of time, on this bridge. I don't know how Taylor Adams cane write such an exhilarating, and thrilling story that takes place over less than 24 hours but that is definitely Adams' forte.
4.5 rounded up to 5 stars for this bone chilling ending. Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for a digital ARC of Hairpin Bridge. All opinions in this review are my own.
Hairpin Bridge
Taylor Adams
Publishes June 15, 2021
This thriller plays out over 3 Hours, 19 minutes on the mysterious Hairpin Bridge in Montana, known as a suicide spot on June 6 (TODAY). Grieving twin, Lena, sets out to right the wrong on her sisters death and ominous last message:
“Please forgive me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic”
This page-turner is told from various points-of-views - Cambry’s moments before her death, Lena’s imagining of how her sister died and Officer Raycevic. The reader will ride along as a passenger in the chase, feel there heart race quicken and jump at the action on the rickety closed bridge.
Find out who is being deceitful, who’s telling the truth and who will survive?
Thank you NetGalley and William Morrow for the complimentary copy of Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams.
While I wanted to really love this one, I’m so sad to say I didn’t. This was such a highly anticipated one for me since No Exit was a 10/10 for me. I found a lot of this story to be unrealistic (I mean who goes to confront a killer alone?) I did, however, enjoy the fast pace of this book. Adams does such a good job keeping the pace going and leaving his readers on their toes. I also did like the two POV’s throughout this story, as we got a good look into Cambry’s last night alive. However, with Lena’s blog posts, Cambry’s story and Lena’s notes to Cam, it kind of got me mixed up and sometimes I wasn’t sure what I was reading. I’d like to give a huge thank you to @Netgalley for my ARC of this book and overall I would give this book a 2/5 for me.
This was a page turner and things happened fast (just how I like!). The different POVs kept you guessing on what the truth actually was. What did happen on that bridge that night? I loved how the author was able to tell a complete and full story with only a handful of characters. There were parts of the book that I didn’t really think were necessary. They seemed a little bizarre and I felt like the were added in for the sake of ‘thrill’ when really, without them, the story would have flowed a little bit better. I also got a little confused at some points between the multiple storylines, but overall it wasn’t too hard to follow.
