I really should not have had 4 espresso shots before reading this book because my heart was RACING. Taylor Adams really knows how to write a thriller that keeps you literally on the edge of your seat. (Yes literally, I was almost falling off my couch at one point). I should mention TWs for loss of a loved one, suicide, murder, blood/gore and all of that nasty stuff. Basically, just know that Adams doesn't skimp out on the details. I'm going to try to keep this review short and to the point because I don't want to give too much away seeing as the synopsis of this book, in my opinion, already gives too much to the reader and I recommend going into this book as blind as possible.
This book starts out as Lena is meeting Corporal Raymond Raycevic, the officer who pulled over Lena's estranged twin sister, Cambry, just an hour before she was found (also by Raycevic) at the bottom of a valley from an apparent suicide at the Hairpin Bridge. From there, we follow along as Lena tries to piece together her many suspicions regarding her sister's death in forms of her inner dialogue as well as written posts from her blog, Lights and Sounds, and the book that she is writing about/for Cambry.
I can already tell that Hairpin Bridge is going to be one of those thrillers that I won't be able to stop thinking about or recommending. Taylor Adams has officially became one of my auto-read authors!
Hairpin Bridge releases in the US on June 15th 2021. Big thank you to William Morrow, Joffe Books and NetGalley for this advance copy. All opinions are my own.
I have always been a fan of McAdams’s writing. After reading No Exit in a day, I was very excited to read Hairpin Bridge. This was another quick and exciting read! He always keeps you guessing and I enjoyed the inner monologue of the main character and her attempt to undercover what really happened to her twin sister that day.
Well! That was um…interesting. I had high hopes for this book because I saw so many great reviews but I think this wasn’t for me.
Multiple times I found myself zoning out during the neverending road scenes because they just felt redundant and if I’m being honest, a bit boring. There were definitely some tense moments in the beginning but it just went on too long for me. I also thought the plot itself was so far fetched that I kind of rolled my eyes, like, a lot. I found it kind of confusing at parts too, which might have been the point but I’m not big on being confused when reading, I’m all about logical. Overall, I thought it could have been wrapped up waaaaay sooner and maybe it would have been a better read as a novella.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this book, I'm still going to read No Exit as I've only heard amazing things.
I was really looking forward to reading this book, I loved the author's previous book, 'No Exit', but I was a little disappointed in this read.
The story follows Lena, whose twin allegedly committed suicide at Hairpin Bridge, Lena and her family are tormented by Cambry's death and after a strange 'suicide note' in the form of a text message to Lena, which mentions the Patrol Officer who discovered Cambry's body, Lena decides to investigate whether Cambry committed suicide or whether she was in fact, murdered.
The book follows Lena on her quest to find the truth which starts with a meeting with the Patrol Officer in question and from there turns into a gruesome fight to survive and uncover the truth about her sister's death.
The premise of the story interested me, which helped to keep going, however, I did find it a chore to finish the book due to the lengthy fight and survival scenes and dialogue. The story also provided some flash backs of Cambry, the dead twin, throughout the book but I found them confusing and struggled to place them in the story arc. I also love an expected turn in a story, something I didn't see coming, but the twist at the end of this story didn't make sense to me, perhaps that's the intention...
This disappointment would not put me off from reading Taylor Adams again as I really enjoyed 'No Exit' but would warn fans, that this story may be a struggle.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hairpin Bridge - Taylor Adams (June 15)
Thank you @netgalley & @harpercollinsca for the gifted copy in exchange of an honest review.
Hairpin Bridges follows Lena after the death of her twin sister Cambry. Cambry’s death was ruled a suicide, but Lena is fairly certain her sister wouldn’t have jumped off Hairpin Bridge on her own. Determine to get to the real cause of her death, Lena travels to Hairpin Bridge herself. Raymond Raycevic was the officer who found Cambry’s body and agreed to meet with Lena. However once they’ve met, Lena realizes she may not be able to trust anything Ray has to say..

Wowow Taylor Adams has done it again and written a thriller that I just couldn’t put down! I loved the setting, the plot and twists were all very unique, and while we were out in the wilderness it still gave me locked room thriller vibes.
My only complaint is I feel like the ending could have lasted a little longer and we could have gotten more tidbit hints to the twist earlier on. Seriously a fantastic thriller though 👏🏻 Adams has confirmed that her will be a forever auto read for me!

This is one of my most anticipated thrillers of the year and I am so freaking excited to go out and buy a physical copy of this book!
Hairpin Bridge was an addicting thriller from the very first chapter! Taylor Adams sure knows how to write a fabulous thriller that keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very end!
The book centers around Lena, an identical twin. It is suspected her twin, Camry, died by suicide on Hairpin Bridge three weeks ago. Lena does not believe this is what occurred, so she visits the town of the incident to address the cop whose name was mentioned in the text Lena receives from her sister on the night of her death. What happens next is where the roller coaster ride begins!
This book will keep you thinking about it long after you have finished reading it! This is the best thriller I have read in quite some time.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions mentioned above are my own

Lena is determined to find out if her twin sister Cambry really jumped 200 feet to her death on a a bridge in the middle of nowhere Montana. She meets up with the police officer who pulled Cambry over just before her alleged suicide. Armed with a recorder Lena is determined to find out the truth. What Lena gets turns out to be way more than she bargained for but is still determined even if it costs Lena her life.
This is the second book by Taylor Adams that I have read and it was certainly a little better than the first one. I will giver Hairpin Bridge this, I finished the novel quickly because I had to know what happened. Other than the novel keeping my attention, I did not enjoy this novel. It was hard to figure out what was true and what wasn't. Lena was so determined to get justice for Cambry only to find out that her sister did not care about Lena at all. That really disappointed me.
Decent book, just not my favorite.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.

Ugh, I’m so disappointed to say that this book was a letdown for me. I’m typically a pretty quick reader but this book took me two weeks just to get to the halfway mark. I didn’t look forward to picking it up which is never a good sign.
The narrative is told in multiple viewpoints which made the plot feel too disjointed. Additionally, the storyline was just so unbelievable and the dialogue didn’t flow easily. I know this is an unpopular opinion but my recommendation is to skip this one.
I was so excited for this book because I loved "No Exit". This one started out really good, but I found myself getting bored. I do think this will work for some, but it just didn't hold my attention enough.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own!
Lackluster writing. Unlikable characters. Slurs. Not for me. And I wouldn't recommend this to anyone either.
A few months ago, Lena Nguyen’s estranged twin sister, Cambry, drove to a remote bridge seventy miles outside of Missoula, Montana, and jumped to her death. That’s what the police report says but Lena doesn’t believe it. She decides to confront the police office who found her.
Corporal Raymond Raycevic agrees to meet her on the very bridge her sister jumped from and Lena is determined to find the truth.
Thoughts: My heart was racing, I was biting my nails off and I even sweated! For god sakes this is literally a wild ride from start to finish. I’ve seen mixed reviews on this and I have no flipping clue why because it was excellent. It was so much more then just a thriller. It involved loss, despair, regret and guilt. The strong reaction Lena has to her sisters death and the determination to find the truth no matter the cost is so heroic I really felt it. The chapters flip between present with Lena , her blog posts and past with Cambry which I thought played nicely in the overall mystery. I can honestly say I didn’t see the twists or the ending which was a surprise. I literally was so engaged in the novel I didn’t even notice the Lakers loosing 🤦🏼♀️I was there for all of it. Well done Taylor Adams 👏🏼👏🏼 thanks for making me get a manicure 😂😂😂😂
Very interesting. I read it a couple of weeks ago and it is still picking at my brain. That, to me, is a sign of a good book.
Hell bent on getting answers for her sisters death, Lena sets out to Hairpin Bridge. She learns a lot of stuff while there and is unsure what, if anything, is real.
Told in a partial blog format with 2-3 POVs, Hairpin Bridge will keep you second guessing yourself.
📚 Book Review 📚
Lena after losing her twin sister to what was declared a suicide, drives out to visit the bridge and meet the highway patrolman that found her body. She needs to know the truth about what happened to her sister and she doesn’t believe for a second it was suicide.
I loved No Exit so much when I read it last year and Hairpin Bridge didn’t disappoint! It was a nonstop action packed book. I loved all the little details. The format of switching back and forth from different story lines kept me reading! I had to find out more and more about what really happened. Overall I would recommend this one to anyone who likes thrillers.

2.5 round down.
Ugh, I hate to say that I didn't enjoy this book by Taylor Adams after really enjoying No Exit, but unfortunately this book just didn't work. The premise sounded intriguing, but fell flat for me. I couldn't connect with any of the characters, they were not relatable, likable, or entertaining, and the story left me wanting and bored...
There were way too many repetitive action scenes and too many unbelievable face-offs with the bad guys. I was not invested in any of it and found myself skimming through the pages as time went on.
I've seen other wonderful reviews and agree this could be a fun summer read for many. I remain a fan of Taylor Adams and look forward to reading future books.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
I truly didn’t love this book. This is one of the biggest titles of the summer, and it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t like that portrayed every cop as a murderer and a dirty cop. It never had anything positive to say about law enforcement and those that put their lives on the line to keep us safe. It was very unbelievable that a cop could get away with the things he got away with.
I also didn’t love that every time the main character did something, everyone was surprised that she broke the stereotypical norm. Ummm okay. Just because she’s a woman and “small” doesn’t mean she can’t do anything. It was extremely frustrating to read.
There were so many timelines/stories going on that it was hard to keep track of what was going on and what was truth. Sometimes that can make a thriller great, but it just made this one confusing.
I did finish it, and for that I gave it 2 stars. The ending almost made it unbelievable.

Unpopular Opinion here: let me start by saying I loved No Exit. Loved it. But this was one hot mess of a book for me. I felt that many scenes were repeated or unrealistic. The overall theme was a little confusing and bizarre. I couldn't keep up. Don't get me wrong, the suspense was there. I didn't want to put this book down! But I was hoping it would get better.....
.
Mini Synopsis: Lena drives to Hairpin Bridge in Montana to try and figure out why her twin died by suicide. Lena thinks there's more to the story and enlists crooked cop Raycevic to help her.

Thank you @netgalley for the ARC!
I really enjoyed reading this book! It constantly kept me wanting more and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I really liked the main character, Lena and I absolutely love storyline. The author does a wonderful job flipping between two different times and it was easy to follow. I do feel the ending could have been tied up a bit more. I have some questions remaining. They’re probably not the most pertinent, but I would have loved to see a bit more detail. All in all, a fabulous read!
This book started out with nail biting suspense that kept me reading. But as I got to about halfway it started feeling like a silly action movie. Lots of car chases, guns and violence, without much substance. I didn’t like or care about any of the characters. I did like how it ended but most of it just had me rolling my eyes. Overall it was a bit disappointing.

Taylor Adam knows how to write a great suspense, with twists. This is my second book of his and I will keep reading his books.
I love that he gets right in the story and doesn't add boring fluff to his novels. I bite my nails the whole time.
I highly recommend, in addition to this book, you read "No Exit", 5*, loved it.
Can't wait to read more of his books!
2.5 stars rounded up because I’m feeling mildly generous. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am quite sad about how this book didn’t work for me. I LOVED No Exit and read it in one sitting late at night. It’s one of my favorite thrillers and one I readily recommend.
Hairpin Bridge has a lot of the same elements of No Exit—all the action in one location over a short period of time, a good bit of violence, and some twists and turns—but without the same oomph.
There’s about 14 different POVs happening in this book and they slip in and out without a ton of clear demarcation which took me out of reading the book so many times. It’s hard to know who’s perspective we’re reading, which kind of comes into play later but it wasn’t enough to make up for how disorienting it was.
It also felt super repetitive and drawn out. There’s several car chase/gunfight scenes that talked in circles around the logistics of how they were playing out, and they just weren’t written in a way that made me feel caught up in the action. This book was also weirdly both pro-cop and anti-cop at the same time??
There’s also a lot of suspending disbelief that has to happen with this book, which was also true of No Exit, but I didn’t feel the motivation to suspend in this one and felt myself getting exasperated with the way characters kept narrowly escaping death. There were some good sections where I felt that same “No Exit” thrill and some okay twists towards the end, but ultimately I was pretty glad to be done with this one.
