Thank you to Netgalley for the e-copy of this book.
Uggghhh….“No Exit”, by Taylor Adams, was one of my favorite thrillers. This is an extremely difficult review for me to write. I was so excited for “Hairpin Bridge”. I might be in the minority with this opinion, but the story fell flat for me.
“Hairpin Bridge” is about Lena Nuygen, a blogger grieving the death of her twin sister, Cambrey. Although the death was ruled a suicide, Lena suspects foul play. She heads to Montana to find the police officer, Corporal Raymond Raycevic, that found the body. She is convinced he was the one who killed her sister. Lena and Corporal Raycevic spend the night on the bridge hashing out the truth.
The story is broken up into three points of view. The current situation, Lena’s blog posts and Cambrey’s point of view. The transitions were not smooth and, at times, it seemed abrupt and hard to follow.
Let me emphasize that this is by no means a slow book. It is definitely an action packed book, chockfull of car chases and shoot outs. The book hooked me immediately and I binged the first half of it in a night. I was totally invested and needed to see how the book ended. There is a good heart pounding story in there but halfway through it flatlined for me. There was a lot of repetitiveness and felt like part of the book was filler. Those parts slowed the story down for me and the book could of been better if it was shorter.
Despite my thoughts on this book, I am looking forward to more of his books.

Thank you Netgalley and Joffe Books for an eARC in return for an honest review.
Lena Nguyen is on a mission to find out what happened to her estranged identical twin sister Cambry. Her death was ruled a suicide but the text that Lena received before she dies leads her to believe otherwise. Lena does not believe that her sister jumped off Hairpin Bridge she believes she was murdered by the cop that found her body. She's meeting with him on the same bridge to get him to confess to her sister's murder.
This book hits the ground running! It didn't slow down. The twists in this book are shocking and I didn't see any of it coming. Just like No Exit, I couldn't put it down. Get ready for a face paced heart pounding read.
Extremely readable, fast-paced, action-filled, suspenseful, and all of the other adjectives.
If you loved No Exit, you'll love this one too. This book is very much a THRILLER, with high-speed car chases and gunfights galore. Similar to No Exit, we have an isolated location and a limited cast of characters, and (for the most part) the entire book takes place in the span of a few hours. The pace is absolutely relentless, and it will keep you at the edge of your seat.
With that being said, I base my ratings on my own personal enjoyment of the books, and for me it was only a three star book. This is really a "me thing"--I love a mystery/thriller, but if the story is going to skew to one or the other, I would prefer a slow mystery to a fast thriller. The action is good, but you end up reading a lot about the specific angles of the gunfights and such....I prefer this type of action as a movie rather than a book. There are enough small twists to keep a mystery reader entertained, but it is still not quite my thing.
Still, I would highly recommend this one if you are looking for a quick, engaging thriller, particularly if you were a fan of No Exit.

Lena has come to the place where her twin sister Cambry committed suicide. They haven't been close for years, but she just doesn't believe that her sister would have made this decision. She contacts Officer Rayceiv, the man who found Cambry's body and he agrees to meet her. He thinks she needs closure, but in reality, she believes he is a killer. Armed with a tape recorder and her plan to obtain a confession from him and share it on her blog, she heads to Montana.
While there was a fair amount of action, I was slightly confused at times by the way the story was told. It seems like there are chapters narrated by Cambry or perhaps just what Lena imagined had happened. I did figure it out, but it took a while and actually kept pulling me away from the story when I should have been fully invested. Did I like Lena? Really, not that much. Not even when more of her reasons for needing the truth about what happened was revealed. There were certainly a lot of unexpected secrets and twists to this story but ultimately it was just an okay read for me.
This might be partially due to what I refer to as second-book syndrome. When I love the first book I've read by an author, and I loved No Exit, I think my expectations are just too high. I have seen so many positive comments on Instagram, so in this case, it might well be me and not the book.
No question I will be reading his next book.
Hairpin Bridge had the potential to be something amazing. Grieving sister, corrupt police officer, a serial killer going undetected for years, and a suicide that left too many unanswered questions. I was immediately intrigued by the books synopsis as well as the first couple of chapters. But then? It all went down hill, and fast.
To begin, this book is broken up into different narratives. You have the present day where Lena is discussing her sister's suicide with the officer that found her body. Then you have what I thought was Cambry's story being told from her perspective, but in retrospect I believe it was in fact the book Lena was writing about how she perceived events to have gone down on the night of her death. There are also places where it is written from the point of view of Officer Raycevic himself. And finally, we have a third narrative which is that of a blog post that Lena is writing about her plans to meet with Officer Raycevic and the outcome she expects.
Are you confused yet? Because there were times when I found it hard to keep track of. Not only that, but the sudden switch between the different perspectives happened without warning, which really snapped me out of the story.
However, that wasn't the only reason that I was forced to give this book such a low rating.
This book was just so beyond unrealistic that it was laughable. The motives of the characters seemed to be an after-thought, meaning I didn't believe any of their so-called motivations for the things they do/had done throughout the novel. Perhaps this was due to the fact that everything was just so over the top done, between the car chases, the gunfights (where people who should be dead aren't), and even a large snake of all things (which seems to serve no real purpose to the story), instead of being drawn in and captivated by what was happening, I just wanted it to be over.
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
This was the first book in a while that I really enjoyed! It's the story of a young woman who travels to Montana to investigate/avenge her sister's death. It gets a bit confusing in parts, though, as the narrator is giving the story of her sister's death. Some things don't quite add up. Nevertheless, I enjoyed that the main character had real moxie and wasn't weak or portrayed as such by the author. Funny that a man has written a strong character here and female authors keep writing women as weak, unreliable and ridiculous. Huge kudos to Taylor Adams!

Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams

After reading No Exit two years ago, I was a little nervous about reading this one and that it would somehow not live up to it’s predecessor.
Turns out I didn’t need to worry, I loved this one!
.
Things I liked:
-Lena is awesome. Period.
-The mystery about Cambry’s death. I wanted to know what really happened.
-The action. It was so great and kept me on the edge of my seat.
-I also loved that this was yet again, sort of a locked room thriller? I mean almost the entirety of the book takes place on this bridge. To be able to tell an entire story, make it suspenseful and be in one place practically the whole time, seems like some great writing to me.
.
I don’t have anything to say about this book that bugged me or I didn’t like. I’ve got Taylor Adams on my auto-read list now!

This story was so captivating and gave me chills the whole time. Very fast-paced and suspenseful. Perfect for getting out of a reading slump! Definitely a little creepy. But worth it!
I loved No Exit, so when I had the opportunity to read this early, I jumped!
This book had me hooked from the start. I stayed up way too late reading. I was eagerly flipping through the pages anticipating what would happen next.
Two twins ; one dead of an apparent suicide and one believing that there is more to the story. Lena ( who is an absolute badass!) sets out to Montana to meet with the cop who pulled her sister, Cambry over, an hour before her death.
She knows she may not make it back alive, and needed everyone who follows her blog to know the truth, no matter what.
Even though the ending wasn’t my favorite, it was still a thrilling ride and I’m really happy that I read this.
TW ; suicide, rape, child death.
I loved the fast pace of Hairpin Bridge and all of the twists and turns. Such a nail biting read! It's my first time reading anything by Taylor Adams and it certainty won't be my last time! Such a great read!
Adams is a master of the small setting thriller. This entire story (mostly) takes place at one bridge, but don't worry, you won't bore of the setting because you'll be spending your time reading as fast as you can to find out what the heck happened to her sister! Adams leaves you guessing and then surprises you at the end!
Wow this book is super intense. I liked how it went straight into the story. We got 2 perspectives maybe 3 actually. I think all of them did what needed to be done to tell the story. Once we got action which wasn’t very long into the book it didn’t stop. Like the last have was just action action action. I think Lena is a pretty naive and in someways not very smart in her decsions but i still loved how she really cared about what happened to her sister. I kind of guessed the ending but i loved this book so much that i didn’t even care that i did. Really love this author and can’t wait to read more from them!
Wow this was intense.
I may or may not have chewed all of my nails down while reading this. 🤣
Taylor Adams has this way of writing that grips you from page one, takes you on this anxiety ridden, suspenseful ride and just delivers. You literally feel like you are at the scene of the crime and hiding hoping the killers won’t spot you too or it’ll be gruesome.
This was told in such a different way, with mini cliffhangers during some chapters. We get Cambry’s story told by how Lena imagines it, Lena’s blogs and Lena’s story. We even get the officers thoughts from time to time. You aren’t sure which story is true. Lena just wants to know what happened to her twin, and she’ll do anything to figure it out.
Thank you for an ARC for my honest review. Pub 6/15

I cannot tell you how excited I was to get an early copy of this book to review. I love this author she really delivered with this latest novel. I thought the characters were amazing and so well-developed... I'm still thinking about them a week later!
I just did not like this book 🙈 i tried. I really wanted to. But i just could not get into it. I was expecting it to be something completely different than it was. But half of it is a car chase. And i couldn’t wait for that to end. I was mainly just bored. I started skimming. Then just over halfway through.. a snake. It just made no sense. I’m like wtf is even happening?
It was just bizarre. I felt confused through half of it. I ended up skipping to the end because i wanted to know what happened. Which made the first half make sense. But i was annoyed that it was so confusing. And boring. The end was decent i suppose. But i didn’t care to go back and read the bit i skipped. 🤭
I read no exit and while it was a bit dark for me, it was fast paced and kept me turning the pages. I felt like this was similar in that it was one night or rather two nights back and forth & a bad guy and a heroine. I would like to see something a little different from the author. To maybe branch out a bit. I think if it had just made more sense on why Cambry was running in the first place, which i get would have spoiled the ending, but it was just confusing on why she was so convinced he was a murderer. Why she was running, that it seemed so implausible and made half the book just hard to follow.
Being a fan of Taylor Adams' No Exit I was very excited to read Hairpin Bridge.
I initially got that same nail biting, edge of my seat thrill from the premise and quick beginning to the book, but I felt the action kind of begin to drag on throughout the book. At times it felt a little long, not quite repetitive, but for all of the events to take place during such a short amount of time it was almost as if there were TOO many twists and turns. It all began to feel a little far fetched. (Also I still don't understand the snake?)
Additionally, the chapters written in Lena's blog mixed in with Cambry's side of the story felt a little disjointed overall and I never felt fully connected to the characters. Everything was descriptive, and not a lot of action when it comes to the personality traits (but it terms of the actual action - this is similar to No Exit, there is a lot of gore)
What I did like though is it kept me wanting to read more. I needed to find out what happened, I just didn't love it all by the end unfortunately.
I think this will be one of the books that is widely separated across the book community. Many people will love the quick thrill of it, and others will find themselves a little let down by the end and I'm swaying towards the latter in this sense.
Full review to come post-editing.
A super compelling read! I preferred Adams' No Exit, personally, but this was a wild ride from start to finish! It takes place over the course of just hours (with flashback scenes to the past). I absolutely recommend this for getting out of reading slumps, or just enjoyed a fun, wild, quick read this summer!
This is my second read from Taylor Adams and much like the first one, I really enjoyed the fast-paced, exciting plot and tough female protagonist. I didn't connect as much with the characters in this one and while I didn't mind the lead character's blog posts throughout, I did find her excerpts of writing as her sister a bit disjointed and distracting. That being said, I loved how the plot occured over a relatively short time period and there were lots of little twists to keep the reader hooked.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy to review. All opinions are my own.
Just like No Exit, this book delivers with twists right from the start. Taylor Adams truly knows how to build suspense and weave it through the story. Kept me totally hooked!
Lena’s twin sister Cambry died three months ago from an alleged suicide on Hairpin Bridge in Montana. Canbry has been distant lately, traveling around the country in her Toyota. But Lena doesn’t think she committed suicide. There was 16 attempted calls to 911 and a mysterious last text to her naming the cop that found her body. So Lena hits the road in her sister’s car, with a gun and a tape recorder and is determined to get the truth out of the officer Corporal Raymond Raycevic, one way or another. It soon turns into a game of cat and mouse on Bridge where her sister died and who lives and dies and what shocking secrets are revealed is what drives the novel.
This book was amazing and I highly recommend reading it ASAP!
