I had high hopes for Hairpin Bridge after enjoying No Exit so much, but I found myself tremendously disappointed. In No Exit, my heart was pumping, the tension remained high, and the atmosphere felt chilling. Hairpin Bridge, on the other hand, felt very choppy and read more like a first draft than a finished novel. I found the overall plot intriguing enough, but the execution could have used some work.

This one was great, but No Exit is still my fave between the two. I cannot wait to see what Taylor Adams comes up with next!!!

I loved Taylor Adam’s No Exit and counted it among one of my favorite reads when it was released, so it was a no brainer to request an ARC of Hairpin Bridge. Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for my ARC. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to devour it. Unfortunately, unlike No Exit, this wasn’t a homerun.

Lena Nguyen’s estranged twin sister has committed suicide by jumping from Hairpin Bridge, an old suspension bridge located on a remote section of highway in Montana. Unconvinced her sister truly killed herself, Lena asks the cop who found her body—Ray Raycevic—to meet her and answer questions. The two eventually end up on the bridge where the bulk of the story takes place.

The narrative alternates between the present, flashback sequences from Cambry, and blog entries and thoughts about Cambry from Lena. Had the story stuck with flashbacks and action in the present, it wouldn’t have floundered. I found the blog entries and Lena’s thoughts about her sister draggy and, at times, confusing.

The book takes a while to get off the ground. There’s a lot of talking back and forth between Lena and Raycevic with nothing happening. And the near-constant use of first names between two people who had never met grated on my nerves. There was even a point I found myself skimming.

And then . . .

The Taylor Adams novel I expected kicked in. From the moment a third party is introduced into the story, it’s a freight-train ride until the end. The second half is an anxiety-fueled rollercoaster brimming with twists, turns, and nail-biting action. I encountered things that repulsed me and things that had me on the edge of my seat. Part cat-and-mouse, part explosive confrontation, the conflict kept me glued. As with No Exit, this book would make an exceptional movie (fingers crossed and hoping). The ending was stellar, tying up multiple threads along with a surprise I didn’t expect. Were it not for the slow start and the intrusive blog entries I’d give Hairpin Bridge 5 stars. As it stands, I’m going with 3.5 rounded up to 4 for review purposes.

To read or not to read: READ!!! The last half makes the whole thing worthwhile.

If you read and enjoyed Taylor Adams’ first book, No Exit, then this will be a perfect next read. This story is part mystery, part thriller, part action and the author makes it all work. Be warned though, it is a darker read and thoroughly scary in parts!

The main character, Lena, is determined to find out what really happened after her sister dies from a fall from a bridge with a suicide note nearby. There are suspicious details like numerous calls to 911 and a partial text that only add to the mystery of what really happened to Cambry. I really enjoyed that Lena was a blogger and it added a different lens to the storyline.

This book is nonstop action. I really enjoy thrills and suspense but this book almost packed in too much for me. There was so much going on it was hard to stay in the scene at times and believe in what was happening. The story definitely ends with some unexpected twists that I really enjoyed. If you are looking for a fast-paced thriller this will be a perfect match for you. I will be excited to read more by Adams in the future.

Thanks to Taylor Adams, Joffe Books, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Heartpounding, intense, hold your breath type of thriller! I wouldn’t expect anything less from Taylor Adams! I was desperate to find out what really happened on Hairpin Bridge and the events leading up to it! Told in the past and present with so much packed into 1 book!

Synopsis:
Meet Lena. She is determined to discover what happened to her twin sister, Cambry. There are several versions of the story, but which one is the truth? Lena will stop at nothing to get all the answers she desperately needs. Was it suicide? Or did something more sinister happen?

Thank you Joffe Books & NetGalley for this advanced readers copy!

That was one wildly intense ride! Hairpin Bridge had my heart pounding from the very beginning!

Lena's twin sister, Cambry, committed suicide by jumping off of Hairpin Bridge. Lena doesn't believe that story. Cambry's suicide text mentions a name ... the name of the highway patrolman that discovered the body. All Lena wants is to know the truth about what happened that night, so she sets up an in person meeting with this patrolman. And what better spot to have this meet-up than Hairpin Bridge??

This book was absolutely insane! My mistake was starting this book late at night with the intention of reading the first chapter or two... yea, well 1/3 of the way through, I finally put it down to get some sleep!

Alternating between Lena's present day meet-up with the patrolman and the story of the night that ended in Cambry's death, this book will keep you turning the pages. Hairpin Bridge is action-packed full of car chases and gun fights with a bad-ass female protagonist. Overall amazing read!

Lena Nguyen is on a mission to come to terms with her twin sister's suicide on Hairpin Bridge. Lena travels to Montana see for herself what happened to Cambry.

This book didn't hold my interest. It wasn't as suspenseful as I thought it might be.

This is a hard review to write because this was one of my most anticipated books of 2021 and it kid if fell flat for me. I was a big fan of No Exit and had hoped this one would have the same edge of your seat, can’t turn pages fast enough type of vibe, but sadly it didn’t. Not to say that there wasn’t a good story there, because there was. There was just a lot of filler and the pace kinda flatlined about half way. Unfortunately there weren’t any major twists-%the few there were were predictable. Maybe I expected too much, but I was kind of disappointed. It’s worth reading for sure, but I was wanting a “I can’t put it down” experience and it fell short.
Lena goes to look into what really happened to her sister for her podcast-it was claimed as suicide but Lena doesn’t believe that Cambry would do that, and in talking to the police officer that was at the scene, she feels more and more like there’s more to the story. There were chapters from both Lena’s and Cambry’s perspectives and then it turned out that they were just what Lena thought were Cambry’s perspective so then I had to read some of them again to have it make sense.
I think this will make an excellent movie but I wanted it to be an excellent book!

This book had me hooked from the first page until the last which I read in one day. Most of the story takes place on a unused bridge where supposedly Lena’s twin sister jumped from to her death. Lena has a hard time believing that and is determined to find out what really happened to her sister. I couldn’t put this book down and there were plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested. Thanks to Netgalley for this arc.

A thriller where we get to meet the killer right away and then the plot unravels further with all the twists and turns at regular intervals to keep the readers constantly on edge. Leena’s twin sister,Cambry was found to have committed suicide at a bridge in Montana leaving behind a very weird suicide note. This makes Leena suspicious of the whole situation and prepares to face the killer to find out the truth behind her sister’s death. Leena not only finds more weird truths but has to think hard if she even knew her sister at all.

A quick, suspenseful, page turner and once you start it, you are most likely going to continue all the way!

Lena Nguyen's identical twin sister, Cambry, died by suicide in Missoula, Montana, on a bridge in the middle of nowhere that is famously haunted. Lena's gut tells her there's more to the story, so she travels to the infamous Hairpin Bridge in her late sister's car, ready to interview Corporal Raymond Raycevic, the highway patrolman that discovered her sister's body. Something doesn't sit right with Lena about Raymond's story: he pulled Cambry over a mere one hour before she allegedly jumped to her death, and there were 16 attempted calls to 911 from Cambry's cell phone, none of which were able to get through.

The nail in the coffin of Raymond's story is Cambry's final text to her sister: "Please Forgive Me. I couldn't live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic." Lena is hellbent on discovering what really happened to her sister. But the more she digs, the more she realizes she has no idea what she's up against.

I'm really bummed to admit this one just didn't do it for me. Taylor Adams delivered another beautifully written book that kept me turning pages, I just found the conclusion fell a little flat. Hairpin Bridge just didn't quite have the "wow factor" I felt No Exit delivered. I'd definitely still recommend it to anyone that is interested in the synopsis.

Thank you to Taylor Adams, William Morrow, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Sensational! This book hooked me from the start! And I finished it within two days. With a plot twist you'll never see coming, Taylor Adams, picks up right where she left off in No Exit. This book is not to be read late into the night. You'll be on the edge of your seat! Highly recommend!! Five Stars!

WOW! This is the first book in a long time I couldn't put down. I made the mistake of starting it before bed, I put it down after I finished it at 4am. The author has you questioning all the little hints dropped throughout the book and rooting for Lena at every turn. I will definitely be looking into some of his other books. Thank you so much for letting me read this great book.

2.5 is my true rating
Lena is looking for answers because she refuses to accept that her sister had committed suicide. Her sister Cambry left a message to Leena moments before she jumped of Hairpin bridge the message says, "Please Forgive Me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic."
Lena has reached the Hairpin bridge and arranges to ask Officer Raycevic all the possible details from that night. He cooperates with her but there is something he is hiding.
Lena has a blog where she has posted her assumption of Officer Raycevic being her sisters murder. And she records him depicting the scene on camera.

The whole book revolves around the same day. There is one part that shows Lena's blog wherein she has written her memories of Cambry and the possibility of her being murdered by Officer Raycevic. Another part is from the actual incident of that night where Cambry was running away from the officer around hairpin bridge with limited fuel in her tank. And then there is Lena on the hairpin bridge questioning Officer Ray.

I have come to an understanding that such story's, based on an event of one day retold again and again, is maybe not my thing. And to be very honest I didn't enjoy reading this book. I skipped alot of pages, especially the part where Lena's blog is written. Though at the end it all made sense but untill 80% of the book I felt like "what is happening, why was Cambry running from a normal parole officer, what was Officer Raycevic hiding, what did Cambry see." And the end just made me feel like this was what the fuss was about? 🙄
Maybe a short story would've been more intriguing this book felt too complicated too long and wasn't quite the page turner I expected.

Wow, that was amazing! After reading and absolutely loving ‘No Exit’ by Taylor Adams, I just knew I had to read this one! Adams has a way of making you forget to breathe the entire way through the book. I literally had to stop just to catch my breath on numerous occasions.

Adams is excellent at creating dark and mysterious characters, but also at setting the scene. I have never felt more involved and been able to so vividly picture a book as I have whilst reading Adams’ work. Full of twists and turns, full of tension and so enthralling. Highly recommend!

What a story - from the first pages I was hooked! Full of twists, its enthralling storyline keeps you turning the pages from beginning to end. Set almost entirely on a disused bridge in Montana, the characters and the pacing make the story an incredible read.

Adams has that unique quality of writing thrillers that are rich in plot, characters and setting, immersing the reader in the story and leaving them drained and exhausted by the end, as though they've actually experienced it. This is one of my favourite books so far this year. Highly recommend!

Wow wow wow wow! What a rush. This is one of the best books I’ve read all year. So creative and unique! This book was horrifying and terrifying and amazing. The characters were spot on and the story line kept you guessing, while white knuckle reading frantically. This book was an adrenaline rush to the max. I could not put it down. This is one of those rare book that would get a bonus star from me. Twisty and turny don’t begin to describe this one. It will grab you and hold you tight till the last page!

The underestimation of every single character in this book is REAL.

I was on the edge of my seat this entire book and I could NOT put it down. It’s dark, disturbing, and full of action. The way every moment is described made me feel like I was in every character’s shoes. I love how there were SO many unexpected twists and turns and how they were all abruptly introduced into the story. This is by far one of the best thriller/suspense novels I’ve ever read.

Three things I didn’t care for/would like to see different:

- I wish Lena and Cambry’s relationship was more tight knit, I think it would have given everything more meaning. However, it does give the story some depth that Lena’s emotions and guilt were so strong for her to seek revenge and tell Cambry’s story.

- Lena’s desire to prove to her mom that her sister didn’t go to hell - it was mentioned a number of times in the book, but it just didn’t carry much weight in comparison to Lena’s guilt.

- The ending: I think it would have better ended with just her blog post and her leaving the scene/diner.

I loved Taylor Adams’ NO EXIT and so I was extremely excited to read this. If not for a middle that sagged at times this would have been a 5-star read for me. The beginning and ending are relentless, adrenaline-fueled action. Taylor does strong heroines well. In this, a sister estranged from her twin who was presumed to have jumped from Hairpin Bridge, confronts the cop she suspects of murdering her sister. Cat meet mouse, as the two maneuver for the upper hand in their standoff. Taylor Adams is one to watch.

Taylor Adams has written another winner. I read No Exit last year, and it was one of my favorite books of the year, so I had high hopes for this one. Hairpin Bridge has met and exceeded my expectations. The characters jump off the page, the pacing is PERFECT, the twists and turns are fun and shocking. I really liked the addition of the interspersed "Cambry's Story" and how it was used to disorient and provide confusion.

Adams has quickly become one of my go-to authors for suspense, providing books that are rich with plot and thrills, and have a seriously un-put-down-able quality to them.
