The author begins by stating something I've been guilty of many times, that is, some of us are so distracted while we're praying. He states that when we pray, we should do so with a humble heart. And when talking to God, we don't get an audible response, but one that God may reveal and we totally missed it because we were expecting something different. Therefore, we must keep an open mind because, in prayer, we "speak" to God, and He "reveals" His answer to us.
Kyle reiterates the fact that God is omniscience (All-Knowing), therefore, He knows every time we will pray even when we don’t know. Kyle states that God wants us to have a humble heart toward Him, walk in His commands, confess our sins to Him and to one another, pray and particularly pray the prayer of faith.
This book is a great resource for growing in your faith and in knowing what God expects of us in prayer, and Kyle Roberts says it best whe he writes "The secret is that humility is the soul of true prayer. It’s what He (God) desires most."
This book is definitely not designed to be read as a devotional over 30 days. It is not set up to be read that way. The author made some points that I am not sure I agree with 100% on his take on what certain Bible passages have to say on prayer. The overall theme of the book is humility when praying. The author, however, does write well on the topics of confessing yours sins through prayer, waiting on God's timing, and several other aspects of prayer. So when reading this book take to heart the good parts and leave the rest. There are more good parts then ones I tended to disagree with.
Loved this book by Kyle DiRoberts. I don’t remember reading anything from him before, but I really liked this one on prayer. Learned so much about prayer and how to pray, pray from your heart. I have always tried to pray that way, just pray and talk with God. And ask of Him from a humble heart. But this book shows a lot more we can learn and know to help us with our prayer life. I didn’t agree with him on a couple of things or how he brought it out, but when he would explain, it usually made sense, so didn’t disagree for long. Really good book. Thank you to #NetGalley and the publishers, B&H Publishing Group, for the opportunity to read and review #TheSecretToPrayer with my honest thoughts.
I highly recommend this book to all considering. Such a powerful discussion and effort to refocus on what matters with prayer, a humble heart. The author is skilled in using humor and anecdotes to strengthen this read and also lighten the mood at times. I highly recommend and learned a lot as I read. The author's personality comes through, something often lacking in theological books, but truly an enjoyable read!
This book gave me a new perspective on prayer. Very interesting and so meaningful. Just what I needed. Great resource.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free, it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.
The subtitle suggests that this book is for daily reading but the structure of the contents does not seem to support this idea.
I did come away with some great reminders and insights though. I particular liked the Bible studies in the latter part of the book as the author guides us through with writing that is fresh, easy to read and understand.
