Ms Lee knows how to develop a story. She gives us Lilah, a bastard raised as a lady. Aaron is soon to be an earl. They are worlds apart, but the attraction is strong. I never write a spoiler! What ican say is that this story is quite emotional. Both of our heroes have huge life choices to make. I found myself cheering them on...and worrying about them. Such good characters make this a true gem.
Looking for a book with a hero that will do anything for The heroine to be safe? Then this is The perfect book for you. It includes a hero that does not belive in love because of his father, but will do anything to protect The heroine. The heroine is a bastard Child who is very stubborn.
I did not think this book was amazing. It was good and worth The Read, but did not captivate me very much
There are books that appeal to your soul and Lord Ares is one of those.
Jade Lee’s writing is simply heart-wrenching. The characters are so wonderfully described that it’s easy to understand their underlying motivations, to identify with them, to feel what they feel.
Lilah and Aaron are very complex characters, with conflicting feelings that make them very human. And they are so full of passion! This is
the best book of the series in my opinion, even if I hope for the continuation of the side story of Aaron's sister and her Scottish lord.
This was my first book in the series and by this author. It was a good opening, and I would love to see what happens in the next book. I would also like to go back and learn the story of another couple mentioned... it sounds like a good one! This episode in the series is about Aaron (an Earl) and Lilah (an illegitimate daughter of nobles). I suppose that's how thing were, but it was a true downer to see her so limited by society. We could not forget for 1 minute that she was a by-blow. Aaron... I wanted to root so much for him, but lord, he was slow to step up to the plate. I enjoyed their story, even if I was impatient for them to overcome their obstacles. The fact that I kept reading until the end gives kudos to the writer!
Lilah Rees meets Aaron at a ball and proposes. She wants a home and family, he thinks love is a trap. This is a nice end to the Lords of the Masquerade. Both are great characters with strong opinions. Their trip to a HEA is full of fun moments, tension, romance and a story line that includes previous characters in the series.
Aaron, Earl of Kittrel, wanted to fight for veterans. Give them a pension and help them find decent jobs. He hated seeing them starving along with their families. Parliament wasn't very helpful, everyone just wanted to forget.
Lilith was illegitimate, but her father brought her home to his family and they all loved her but she felt she was not truly of their world. Nor did she feel part of the commoner's world. She wanted to be married and have a family and home. She also loved Aaron. He was above her and would never marry her.
It was so enjoyable as they struggled along. He with his mother, parliament, and the ton. She with her performing Troupe of friends, her family, and even her feelings of not being good enough. This is so well written, entertaining and exciting. She had some wonderful friends and her family supported her. It was just one loving story. But they had to fight for what they wanted.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed this novel.
Entertaining and romantic, I found this love story generally well-written, but rather slow-moving in parts. Caught up in the entertainment at the annual masked ball, Lilah's attention was elsewhere and when accosted by a group of revelers it is the Earl of Kittrel, the man who sets her heart racing, who comes to her rescue. Lilah has worshipped him from afar for some time and is embarrassed when he rejects her offer. Although I enjoyed the third book in this series, I found the dialogue rather drawn out in parts. I also got frustrated with Aaron that it took him so long to see what was in front of him. However, I was glad that the story ended on a positive and happy note. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Aaron and Lilah meet at a masquerade, when he rescues her from some drunken party goers. They are immediately taken with each other. When Aaron recognizes her, he realizes, or at least he believes he cannot marry her, even though she makes a great case for just that. Lilah is the illegitimate daughter of an earl, raised and educated in his household to be a lady. She has always felt like an outsider, not quite accepted by society. Aaron believes that he must marry a lady from his social status. Even when they begin to believe they love each other, he holds stubbornly to this idea. Aaron and Lilah are awesome characters and will make a wonderful couple if they can work through the uncertainties. Lady Clara and Lord Loughton were great secondary characters. This is an engaging story with equal doses of drama, emotion, and humor. How does it end? At a ball, of course, where there will two grand surprises for Lilah. A great addition to the series. I look forward to the next one.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Lord Ares by Jade Lee is one of my favorite historical of 2021. I had all the warm, happy feelings that I love from reading a historical romance. It has a strong plot with fun characters and interesting conflicts. I’m a new reader to Lee and I can’t wait to read more! Fantastic writing. Book worked well as a stand alone.
Lilah was born out of wedlock to her actress mother. Later adopted by her father and his family. Lilah wants to marry and has exceptional skill at organizing a household. Lilah is brave, kind and funny. I love that she isn’t a classic lady of the town and a much more nuanced character.
Lord Kittrel, Aaron, is learning to take his father’s place as an earl and in parliament. He is a genuinely good man and wants to help others. He can be slightly to disciplined at times but it adds to his depth of character. Aaron has an eccentric sister, Clara, who was my favorite in the book! She loves seances! Hoping her story is next!
If you love a romance with two people who think they shouldn’t be together and a super sexy more than kissing but not enough to marry scene.. this one is for you!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #LordAres #NetGalley #JadeLee
She wants to marry, he,. not so much.
I found this book to be engaging, a bit far fetched (Lady Clara and her fake seance) at times. but enjoyable.
Lilah Rees is a by-bl;ow, raised as a proper lady, but improper for her illegitimate status. No proper lord will marry her. I liked how pragmatic she is about the few opportunities to meet an eligible match. A year ago, she shared a kiss with Aaron, who plays Lord Ares at the masquerade (large staff and all). A year later, she's even more pragmatic in her search for a husband.
Aaron, now the earl, likes Lilah but can't marry her, or rather will not marry her.
He's got his faults but overall, he's a decent sort, focused on his seat in Parliment and helping the war veterans.
I like the sly innuendos and their chemistry.
Recommend.
4.5
Lilah Rees is attending another ball, but, this one is just a bit more interesting than most. There is a very handsome man dressed as Lord Ares and she is smitten. As an illegitimate daughter, she has sadly acknowledged she is below the members of the Ton, but above all the servants. She doesn’t belong.
Aaron, Lord Chambers has noticed the lovely woman and knows that he is attracted to her, but she does not fit his protocol for a wife. Even though she peeked his interest even more by proposing marriage to him.
But love always seems to have a way to work out any and all obstacles. Lilah and Aaron must make peace with their pasts to embrace the future.
How does a Woman born illegitimate, but raised as a Lady and with a modest dowry entice a man of the ton to notice and marry her? Lilah Rees is at a masquerade ball and has always been aware of the powerful and benevolent Lord Kittrel.
Aaron the Lord fights for the downtrodden notices Lilah, but knows he can’t get involved because of his position and rank.
The author Jade Lee always writes well written books and this is no exception! It has humor, romance, and so much more that you will just keep turning the pages!
I definitely would recommend this book!
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

Lilah and Arron are the third couple to meet as a result a Masquerade, which is the setting for this series.
It's enjoyable and amusing in parts, the two are good strong characters as are their friends, this makes for a more addictive read .
The settings are interesting and the whole book was one I think I would probably read again .
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post a review
⭐️⭐️⭐️Lord Ares is a solid historical romance read with characters that you can’t help but like. Both Aaron, Lord Kittrel, and Lilah are genuinely good people that care about making a difference in the world. I enjoyed their moments together and loved how they found their HEA. The math challenge scene was fun to read and was captivating. I would have enjoyed more character development of Aaron’s sister, Clara, though. It would have also been more engaging to read more of her budding relationship with her Scottish Lord.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes.
Did I love it? Eh. I liked it!
Will I read more in this series? A strong maybe.
Do I recommend this one? Sure - it’s an easy read with likable characters.
In summation, give Lord Ares a try and enjoy!

Aaron, Earl of Kittrel fights for veterans, defends the poor, and will give the shirt off his back, but he hasn’t got time for love. When a feisty fairy at his masquerade catches his attention, he’ll defend her honour, but he won’t marry her. Lilah Rees born illegitimate, she was raised as a lady. Trained to manage the most elevated of homes, she’s been dismissed by everyone with a pedigree.
This is the third book in the series about three lords who hold a masquerade party. A well written entertaining book with strong characters, I really like Both Aaron & Lilah & loved how their relationship grew & developed, I also liked some secondary characters & was routing for them too. I found myself engrossed in the story & read into the night to finish it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Welcome back to the Lords of the Masquerade book series by Jade Lee! This is the third book in the series and can be read as a standalone. I’ve only read the first book and didn’t have any problems following this book without having read the second book. The story follows Aaron the Earl of Kittrel and Lilah Rees a bastard born daughter....or so she thought. The story follows them as they both struggle to not fall in love with another. Aaron must keep his duties and Lilah is trying to find her future. Both are trying to find how to work around the other but things keep getting more difficult and soon their struggles will have to come to a conclusion. Lilah is sure she is in love with Aaron but Aaron is positive what they have between them is only lust. The conclusion of the story wraps up everything and ends in a nice way.
*Thanks Netgalley and Dragonblade Publishing for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
LORD OF WAR
He’ll fight for veterans, defend the poor, and give the shirt off his back, but he hasn’t got time for love. Aaron, Earl of Kittrel, is too busy governing England to find a wife. When a feisty fairy at his masquerade catches his attention, he’ll defend her honor, but he won’t marry her. And if he captures a kiss from her delectable lips, then it’s not enough to pull him from his duty. Or is it? Because he can’t stop thinking about her...
LADY OF SUBSTANCE
Lilah Rees defies categorization. Born illegitimate, she was raised as a lady. Trained to manage the most elevated of homes, she’s been dismissed by everyone with a pedigree. What could a famous Member of Parliament want with a bastard? Nothing but a kiss. So she turns her attention to forging her own way outside of the ton.
Lots of fun as you would expect from this series. I love Lilah and how she would stand up what she wants. It's hard even for someone now and it's even harder for someone back then... Wonderful chemistry between the lead characters. Great book overall.
Thanks to the publisher for providing an ARC.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I look forward to the Lords Of The Masquerade books. Jade always delivers a brilliant, sexy, exciting love story. This book didn’t just meet the expectations of an excellent series; it excelled. Ever since the second book, I have been looking forward to Aaron and Lilah’s story. The couple’s journey exceeded expectations; it took me on a rocky journey to undeniable love.
Lilah has been balancing between two worlds her entire life. She is an illegitimate daughter of a nobleman and an actress. Raised in the home of her aristocratic father and his wife, she is trained to be a lady. However, she cannot escape her mother’s past. Lilah is a people pleaser, never able to go after what she wants. She was so relatable. I empathize with her situation. We all have moments where we feel we don’t belong and lose our way. The novel had an uncanny way of making the reader feel what it is like to survive in two different worlds, never belonging to either. I was so happy that during the book, Lilah finds her voice and goes about forging the future she wants.
Aaron, Earl of Kittrel, is the epitome of an aristocratic politician. He makes no waves, always making the right, expected decision. Aaron buries his emotions in duty. He denies himself the gift of all-consuming love with Lilah due to his inability to see past all society's traps. He would rather dictate to others than to listen. Aaron’s character was unbendable yet held a particular quiet vulnerability that I enjoyed.
The couple had sparks at their first encounter. Lilah embraced emotions where Aaron suppressed them. Their connection was bone-deep; it resonated from the page. The passion was ravenous, but the couple had to decide if that love was enough. Often, the main couple in a story falls in love, and the book ends. However, love is complicated and messy. Here, the two have to decide if love is worth giving up a piece of yourself- your freedom. That freedom is the ability to choose your fate.
This book was imaginative and heart-wrenching. There was a push and pull between Aaron and Lilah that kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot had layers of depth and raw emotion. It moved at a steady pace. I read this book in one night! It was an easy read yet contained an intricate plot. My only wish was that these books would have an epilogue; they tend to stop abruptly. Overall, I was enthralled and delighted with this love story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book via Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What started off as a good story, handsome, good hearted Earl, meets beautiful girl born on the wrong side of the blanket deteriorated quickly for me. I realize we live in the feminist world, the "let's rewrite history world"; however, some of us refuse to swallow the junk being fed to us. First of all, why have sex with someone you know won't marry you? She hated being a bastard, but is willing to have that happen to her, for a man who doesn't think she is good enough. Of course, being a romance all ends well, sorry, getting there like they did is way too much for me!
I cannot recommend! Thank you Netgalley.

This series has such great characters. I was excited for Lilah to have her happy ever after. She definitely had to work hard for it. Not only were the main characters enjoyable, but side characters as well. I would enjoy reading Clara and Loughton's story.
Lilah didn't feel like she fit in anywhere except when she was with Aaron. Aaron felt he needed to be perfect for parliament and didn't want his life to be like his parents. Them coming together was such a loving and entertaining story.
This book can be read alone, but I recommend the series.
