This is a WWII Historical Fiction that follows several women that work as Nurses in the war.. We see a story about friendship, love, tragedy, loss, romance and admiration--a jam packed book. As always she provides an enjoyable book. Thank you netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for a review.
Its hard to believe, but this was my first Danielle Steel novel. I absolutely loved the cover art, and WW2 theme, so had to request it. I love reading about nurses in WW2, or any war for that matter, and I highly enjoyed this. Not only was it an emotional read, but informative as well. It did get a tad repetitive, but not enough for me to not enjoy it. 4 stars!
December 7th, 1941 was a day that rocked the United States and changed the lives of many forever. For fresh out of nursing school, Audrey and her best friend Lizzie the disaster of that day and the tremendous losses both have faced will lead them to make the boldest move of their life. By joining the Medical Air Evacuation Transport Team, they will quickly find themselves in a world they never imagined existed fighting a war for freedom alongside many other brave women and learning lessons and building relationships along the way that will change them forever.
Another classic Danielle Steel. In her newest novel DS explores the lives of several women as they navigate their places in a war torn era. Pru, Lizzie, Audrey, Alex, Louise and Emma all come from different walks of life. The one commonality is the desire to help others and make a difference. They sign up to become nurses and join the elite Medical Air Evacuation Transport. Each woman experiences loss and hardship. Survival is key and picking up the pieces of a life that will never be the same again. Historical fiction fans will love this story. Thank you #NetGalley #FlyingAngels for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Very good book. Highly recommend. Always been a Danielle Steel fan and enjoy her books. This is one that will definitely keep your interested.
Although I have enjoyed previous books by Danielle Steel, I had a hard time getting into Flying Angels. There were several characters to keep track of and the writing style left a lot to be desired. I really hate to give negative reviews but out of all the World War 2 books I’ve read this year, this is my least favorite.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

Danielle Steel stories are always wonderful and Flying Angels is no exception. I was immediately drawn into the story of these brave women who provided an invaluable service during World War II — my own grandmother was a member of Army Nurse Core during WWII which made this story more emotional. These women served bravely in the front lines providing life saving medical care, assisting in air lifts, helping to perform emergency surgery in field hospitals with fighting continuing. This book is a stunning tribute to all nurses who served with bravery and valor assisting the military and saving lives.
Highly recommend!!
This is one of my favorite Danielle Steel novels. Set during WWII, it’s the story of Audrey Parker, who after high school graduation, goes to nursing school to better care for her mother who has Parkinson’s. Dec. 7, 1941, changed that. Her brother a Navy pilot is killed and after her mother’s death, Audrey and her nursing school friend, Lizzy, join the Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron to help the war effort. While in training they meet Louise a black woman from the south and has to continually fight segregation in this elite group of nurses. In fact, all the women do. The pay is low and there is little recognition of the challenging and dangerous work they do. There’s a lot of backstories which is necessary for the reader to understand the different background of the women in the story. They were truly flying angels.
A book that focuses on brave woman. It did bother me that some historical events are out of order, but decent.
This book was a complete surprise for me. I don't typically like "historical" stories, but I picked this up because I really enjoy Danielle Steel's stories. I'm so happy to have loved this as much as I did. With lives forever changed after the attack on Pearl Harbor, two women find themselves on a mission to serve their country. Along with a group of other flight nurses, we see them show their bravery and courage in an effort to help the country. This was a great read and I highly recommend it.
Another great hit by Danielle Steel. The Flying Angels tells the story of 6 diverse nurses that fate has brought together during World War 2. Audrey is from a naval family in Annapolis, who loses her brother at the start of the war. Boston bred Lizzie is her best friend, who fell in love with Audrey's brother, enlists in the Army after Audrey's brother is killed. After her mother dies, Audrey also enlists and Lizzie and Audrey train together as part of the Army Medivac corp where they fly dangerous missions.
With two other Americans, Lizzie and Audrey are stationed in England after their training. They fly dangerous missions but help in saving many lives. These Flying Angels must learn to balance love and life in not so fabulous times.
Another great story by Ms. Steel. She captures the heartache and terror as well as the love and romance set in World War 2.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. This story gave such an interesting perspective of world war 2. Being a nurse, I was drawn to the skills and duties of these nurses and their assignments. As with her other books, I feel like the author repeats herself a lot, therefor dragging out the story, but I liked how all these women came from different backgrounds and fought for their country and their beliefs.
WWII Historical fiction told from a different perspective, Nurses working on the elite medical air evacuation transport squadron. I read a lot of historical fiction and like the way authors set the stage and incorporate people into the time periods. Audrey Parker goes to nursing school to learn to care for her mother who has Parkinson’s disease. Her brother Will, graduates from Annapolis and becomes a Navy fighter pilot. When the war breaks out, Will gets assigned to Honolulu and gets killed at the attack on Pearl Harbor. Lizzy, a friend Audrey met in nursing school had fallen in love with Will, and is devastated by his death as are Audrey and her mother. Lizzy decides to enlist in the Army as a nurse and meets Alex, the daughter of New York aristocrats. Lizzy and Alex decide to join the elite Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron in order to help the war effort. By this time, Audrey’s mother has succumbed to her illness and died, leaving Audrey free to join her friend as a flight nurse. In flight school, they meet Louise a black woman from the south who was raised by parents in the medical field but faces segregation and racism every day. All four American women are then transferred to England and join in with the RAF flight nurses to transport the wounded men from enemy lines in Europe. In England, the four women meet Pru, the daughter of a titled family from Yorkshire, and Emma, who came from the slums of London’s East End. The six women become fast friends as they work tirelessly for the war effort and risk their lives every day to bring the wounded back to hospitals in England. Once all the women met and started their missions the rest of the story flew by as I was awed by the bravery and courage of these women. It is a story of a fierce friendship between the nurses and a selfless comradery that extended beyond social status, nationality, and color. They were like family and stuck together through the good times and the worst times. They had a friendship that would last the ages. Some of them would make it through the war and some would be lost. A wonderfully spun story. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review the book.
This is another great book by Danielle Steel. I enjoyed the historical element in this book. The story was at friendship and loss, love and striving to do and be what you desire to be.
This may be my favorite DS book in several years! WWII Historical fiction told from a different perspective, Nurses working on the elite medical air evacuation transport squadron. Just as I got a bit invested and attached to a couple of characters in this book, more we're added in, and then more. It was interesting to watch their friendships develop despite vast differences in their backgrounds. A different perspective on a WWII novel, one that I found particularly interesting! The 1st DS book I have read in a long time that did not feature characters of privileged backgrounds who went through hard times, but for whom money afforded them privileges to make all well. This book was more realistic, more believable, and more difficult to read because it is so believable! If you are expecting a happily ever after for all of the characters in the book then you'll be in for a shock. There is some happily ever after but there is so much heartbreak before that. This book is truly realistic and really well written and by far my DS favorite in years! I highly recommend this book❤
I read a lot of historical fiction and like the way authors set the stage and incorporate people into the time periods. While I enjoyed getting to know these six women, I felt that it was more about them and less about the war; each one sees some combat, suffers some losses, but mostly they meet men and fall in love. I did learn quite a bit about the Flying Angels but wanted a little more.
What I know about Danielle Steele was that she is a prolific author of women's literature'. I believe I have read one or two of her books many years ago. As a result, I did not have high expectations going into the book since her writing is not my usual style and I had myself convinced that this was going to a romance novel with a sprinkle of history. Surprise, this novel mainly focused on a group of strong female characters that call themselves the Flying Angels. "its what they call us, we are just nurses". This was not the type of book that I said to myself,"wow, this was amazing writing." In fact the writing was closer to being considered predictable, however I am not reading this book for history, I'm reading it for a good story and that's what I got, an entertaining story with strong, diverse female characters.
Lizzie and Audrey attended nursing school together and had a previous friendship outside of nursing. Lizzie was in love with Audrey"s brother, who became a casualty of Pearl Harbour. Alexandra Whitman White was a socialite and her thoughts were focused on finding a martial match, later she realized her interests were no longer with marriage, but in healthcare. Louise Jackson recieved her LPN at a segregated nursing school for black women. Prudence Pommery was the only daughter of three children, her brothers were enlisted in the RAF. Pru's parents. Lord and Lady Pommery turned their large home into a dormitory for 24 evacuted children from London.
This novel easily earned a five out of a five stars, the character sketches are well done and the female characters are likeable. I found the story interesting and kept my attention.. I would like to thank NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the privilege of reading this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Another great installment from this incomparable author! Ms. Steel brings the fascinating story of WWII flight nurses to life. Not much is written about them, and they deserve the attention because what they sacrificed and fought for without any hope of recognition deserves to be told. I love Ms. Steel's writing, her world-building and characterization is so wonderful, as are the relationships between the nurses. I would love to be able to make friendships like these, forged in those trying times. If you are looking for your next fix that has friendships and relationships between characters that are not perfect but are relatable, then pick this one up. I really enjoyed it and will always read anything by this very talented author.

World War II brings together six remarkable young flight nurses, who face the challenges of war and its many heartbreaks and victories as unsung heroes, in this inspiring novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel.
Our patrons always enjoy the next new release of Danielle Steel. They go out quickly.
This one will be no exception.
Great story but I felt there was a flaw in the writing. I enjoyed this sweet piece of historical fiction. However, there is a huge flaw that really bothered me, the use of the phone for communication. In the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, the use of the phone for long-distance calls was very limited. It was expensive and unreliable.
Thanks to Delacorte Press and Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a fast read because I just could not put it down once started. I have been reading a lot of World War 2 books but had not read anything about the flying nurses. So many emotions in this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
