Fantastic! This isn't Danielle Steel's typical novel, but Flying Angels is one to pick up if you enjoy historical fiction. Never one to shy away from difficult and uncomfortable topics, Steel's Flying Angels is a rollercoaster you won't want to miss.

I love historical fiction and as a nurse, do enjoy reading medical stories. I found a lot of the same information, repeated many times over, which resulted in some skimming through parts. I enjoyed the characters, and as a nurse, recognized the sisterhood and camaraderie that defines the nursing profession. During war time, I imagine they would bond forever.
The bravery of these nurses is a fact and their service was admired immensely. I worked with several military nurses, all well trained and very skilled.
I have read other books that were based on women in the military, and while this was not the best that I have read, did have a lot to offer. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys adventure with some romance mixed in.
My thanks to NetGalley, Dellacorte Press and Random House for the ARC.
All opinions are my own.

A group of women nurses enlisted in the military serve in WWII in the RAF. Their missions are extremely dangerous, but the nurses find that they love their jobs and their friendships with one another. This book highlights the very emotional work the nurses engage in, as well as the losses that are experienced by almost every family. This is a very emotional story and one that I couldn’t put down! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Flying Angels by Danielle Steel is another of her wonderful inspiring stories. Flying Angels is set during World War II and 4 young American women who are nurses are eventually sent to Europe to help treat all the injured soldiers; two English nurses will in time join this wonderful group of ladies who are determined to do their jobs, despite the dangerous times.

We meet Audrey Parker, who attends nursing school, in order to take care of her mother, who has Parkinson’s disease; she meets Lizzy Hatton at the school, and they become best friends. Lizzy will eventually fall in love with Audrey’s handsome brother, Will; but when Pearl Harbor is attacked, he is killed. Still grieving, and after the death of Audrey’s mother, both ladies join the Army and embark on a new adventure as flight nurses. We then meet Alex Whitman, who is from a wealthy family, is also a nurse, who decides to join the elite Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron, with her family very much against her decision. We also meet Louise Jackson, a smart black women, living in the south, and is considered an excellent nurse, who will join the group; together the four of them will be sent to England to join the RAF flight nurses, and the soldiers who fly them to rescue the injured in dangerous enemy territory. The girls will meet Pru, a leader who knows what to do and is very friendly, and her coworker, Emma, who lacks confidence, always depending on Pru. It will be Pru who brings the 4 girls into their group. The six of them become close friends, and work together in the war effort, risking their lives along the way.

What follows is an amazing and heartbreaking story, which kept me unable to put the book down. This is a war time story, with wonderful loyal women who have so much courage and bravery, as they put themselves into danger every time they go out on the flights. Flying Angels was a very engrossing story line, with so much tragedy, with many lives lost; and we get to learn more about each of the girls home life. Danielle Steel once again surprises me with a different kind of story that was a masterpiece; and a tribute to these wonderful courageous women. You need to read this book.

I am going to come clean right from the jump- this is the first Danielle Steel book that I have read.I had thought the authors books were to "schmaltzy". Excessively sentimental was not what I found at all.So, I stand corrected and have about 39 Danielle Steel books to catch up on as this book was 5 star.
The book is perfectly paced with a nice introduction to each of the women and how they came to be nurses and then part of the Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron. With varied backgrounds from poor to wealthy. and from country ans city. Each came with the purpose of saving as many injured men as possible. They did it with the utmost bravery and fearlessness. The Flying Angels as they became to be known as were indeed a special breed of women who made a difference in the world.
I also liked that the author addressed that the war changes people and had changed these women. They would go home as "new" people while families would be expecting the "old" person.. Each would have to adapt to a new situation. I believe this to be an important aspect of war.
While there was much camaraderie and hard work, there was also heartache. I think I grabbed for tissues about 3 or 4 times.
Thanks to Random House, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. I am now a Danielle Steel convert and will definitely try more of her books. This book publishes on November 23,2021.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a story about women who made a big difference in the war as nurses during a time when women weren't viewed as important. They were very different women from different walks of life who came together for the important job of helping the wounded. They put their lives at risk every day. I liked the characters and the book kept me interested. It was a good read and I would definitely recommend it to others.

I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend reading it. It was sad at times as it took place during the war but it was very informative to see what the nurses and the young men who served in the war went through.

This book takes place during WWII. Five women from different lifestyles become nurses for different reasons. They all end up in England working with the RAF transporting injured soldiers from the front back to England. All five of them become fast friends working closely together to save lives. They suffer personal losses and losses as a group and struggle to keep moving forward. Once again Danielle Steel has written a captivating book which is rich with history. This book may not have been the best book for me to choose from my TBR pile since I recently visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Stoystown, PA. However, I was already in an emotional mood before picking this book up.

Flying Angels is a VERY emotional read. Not only an emotional read but a very realistic (and bloody) look at what went on during WWII and the men and women who fly with the Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron and save lives while putting their own in danger; several times a day.

There is romance for some; death for others. And I have to admit that I was surprised at who didn't make it all the way through this book and who did or did not get romance and a HEA.

This was not a fun book for me, but it was informative. There is plenty of character growth. This book does start slowly with a lot of back story for several of the women. However, the rest of the women we meet don't seem to get the same respect, which bothered me for some reason.

I recommend this book to those who like their historical romances to be 'in your face' truthful, in all of its blood a guts glory.

WOW! Another captivating story from Danielle Steel.
This book highlights the lives of five women, and their families, as they navigate through love and loss during war. Five women, from backgrounds, bond together as the Flying Angels, transporting wounded soldiers from combat locations to hospitals during war. Each woman has a story and a reason for being there. For some, there will be no happy ending to the war, and each of them will experience loss and devastation.
A wonderful story that touched on so many emotions - love, loss, friendship, dedication, and loyalty.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Flying Angels by Danielle Steel. This is a story of WW II, and a group of strong independent women who served as nurses. These brave American nurses join with British forces as “Flying Angels”. These were special nurses who would fly into war zones and get soldiers who were wounded and fly them back to hospitals. They were part of the Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron. I loved reading about these women and what they did to contribute in the war effort and help save soldiers. This is a book of friendship, sacrifice, and events that would forever change lives. I will recommend this book highly.

This is one of my favorite Danielle Steel books. This is a wonderful story of brave women serving during WWII.
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley. My review opinions are my own.

This is about a group of six women who volunteer to nurse fallen soldiers in World War II. They all come from different backgrounds and different cultures. They are bonded by their devotion to country and helping save soldiers. This encompasses Pearl Harbor , great losses they endure and how they bond over their dedication to nursing. It is a realistic story that captures the reader from beginning to end. I enjoyed reading this and found it far and above the many WWII stories I have previously read. The detail here is extraordinary and everyone interested in reading of this time in our country can appreciate these women and their contributions.

This book wasn’t like I thought it would be. It was different. It was wrote beautiful, but I had a hard time getting into this book this time. I would still recommend it, but not my favorite. It’s about war and how they survived it.

As a nurse and an avid reader I adored this book. The characters are well developed, the story is fast paced, and it gets you in the feels! Danielle has created such likable characters in this novel that you quickly become attached and I found myself getting teary eyed quite a few times…both happy and sad tears. There were no extraneous characters or plot points like in a few others I’ve read from DS recently. All in all I can honestly say this is one of the best DS has published lately…it’s one I will remember for quite awhile. 5 stars!

Daniel Steele writes historical fiction/romance in a way that leaves the readers uplifted and feeling the world and all its hardships will be ok. Her heroines are often glamorous and beautiful. "Flying Angels" is Danielle Steele's latest in the genre and is a story of several nurses from the United States who volunteer to provide nursing thru airlifting the wounded from the European battlefields. It is a unit that saves lives due to its quick transport but also puts these flight nurses in danger.

The book attempts to address the issue of racism in the World War II-era as well as the gender inequity of the era. Those who returned home from service in World War II and those who served on the home front did make a difference in attitudes. The many losses of young persons who served are given coverage in the book as well as some coverage given to the post-traumatic issues that returning servicemen and their families experienced.

This book is a broad overview of many things and does what most of Danielle Steele's books do and leaves the reader uplifted. there were several main characters used to address the issues of the era and it tended to make the storyline lighter and less traumatic. It is a book worth reading and hopefully will encourage the reader to dig deeper into the real stories of the World War II men and women who saved the world. Thanks to #FlyingAngelsNetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

In her latest historical novel, Danielle Steel chronicles the lives of six women who volunteer to nurse fallen soldiers in World War II. The women come from different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common: their passion to contribute something meaningful to the war. Lizzie and Audrey have the largest roles in the book, and the story begins with the events that created their deep and abiding friendship. When Pearl Harbor is bombed, they lose someone important to them, and this inspires them to go overseas to use their nursing skills to help the war victims. Meanwhile, their colleague , Alex, who comes from a life of privilege, is determined to cast aside her wealthy background and focus on what's important to her--helping others. Louise is a woman of color who has to overcome a life of adversity and prejudice to prove that she has as much value as her Caucasian counterparts.

The story is interesting, but the book is too short for a deep dive into the lives of the six women. As usual, Steel relays her story from a high level that skims the surface of her plot. The good thing about this approach is that it keeps the story moving at a fast pace, but it doesn't allow for a lot of development. Key plot twists happen in a few sentences rather than building up over several pages. But all the same, this is a good story and will keep her legion of fans happy. It's a great novel for relaxing after a long day.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my opinions.
