This gal was simply too much. She made my heart race faster than ever, the suspense pounding in my blood to the point of throttling me with curiosity as I fell into the book to know its secrets. And the gal I was speaking of was author Kiersten Modglin.
My second book by her, and I thought she would soon become my auto-buy author. That belonged only to my one great love author Matthew Reilly, fell in love with him in his first book. But getting back to this book, here went the gist of it.
Grace and Ryan were just married, and they went on their honeymoon to a remote cottage/cabin. Why o why would they go to a place with no mobile network… Simple… Just for this book to happen
And things happened; someone tried to kill them. Of course, that had to happen. It was a suspenseful thriller set in remote place. But fear not, that wouldnt be the only thing happening. This was this Kiersten’s book. Nothing could be as simple as that. This gal would never allow her characters to be so one dimensional.
And you guessed it. Secrets abounded within the dark hearts, and each made me laugh in giddy pleasure. Bring it on. Why not? The darker the characters, the naughtier they behaved. And my thriller-y heart got so tuned on by that. Yeah yeah… I am weird like that.
At 225 pages, it packed a punch with chills and thrills and twists that you wouldn’t ever believe. I love books that could be read over a cuppa tea and toast. This fit the bill perfectly.
When I started this book, I knew I was in for a page-turner full of twists and that's exactly what I got! It was my second book by this author (certainly not the last) and it's funny because both were about unconventional couples. They were also equally gripping.
While I really liked The Arrangement, its over-the-top ending made me cut half a star. In Just Married, I thought the biggest plot twist was clever and the ending entirely satisfying.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
I did not post about this book publicly because I don’t believe in bashing books on my platforms. For me, however, it was a nonstarter. The dialogue was clunky and I couldn’t get into it, so it was a DNF for me. Thank you for the opportunity.
New author alert!!!!
Just Married by Kiersten Modglin was a quick and a really good read which was full of twists and turns throughout. I was completely intrigued from start to finish. I enjoyed this book I read it in one sitting. I loved it and Highly recommend this book.
Big Thank you to Kiersten Modglin, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book.
Just Married starts off with a couple leaving for their honeymoon in a cabin away from city. Ryan and Grace, an adorable and lovable couple who decides to spent a week off but ends up in a cabin where previously people have been murdered.
Strange things starts happening from the very first day of their arrival and things go out of control when they spot a mysterious old man living in the mountains near the cabin. So what all could happen when this mysterious man turn against them leaving them helpless in a murder cabin.
Just Married is the first book I have picked of Kiersten and I must say it won’t be the last. If the above synopsis has got your mind hooked to this story then this is just a sample of what the actual plot could be because it’s way more complex.
I loved the characters Grace, Ryan and the mysterious old man. They are the most complicated characters I have come across in a recent time. Just Married is written with such a finesse that the moment you think the plot is ending the twist actually begins. The book give you a horror vibe and a creepy vibe altogether and each page just keep getting better.
So if you are looking forward for a short, one sit thriller read that could blow your mind, then this one is definitely for you. Highly Recommend 👍👍
Thank you @netgalley @kierstenmodglinauthor @bookouture for the E-arc of this amazing book.
My rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5
A suspenseful psychological thriller about the promises we make to one another upon entering a marriage, and all the ways in which we break them. The relationship between the two main characters is not an easy and loving one, but definitely the sort to keep you on edge!

Recommended to readers who like a one setting twisty thriller.
Sipping thoughts: Just Married is a book that makes you think twice about relationships. I couldn’t wait to finish to see what the secret really was and WHO was actually holding the secret. The twists just keep coming in pure KMod fashion. She always seems to have twist that she leaves breadcrumbs for you to figure out but there are others that literally come out of nowhere and smacks you in the face. This is the second KMod book that I have read and I can’t wait to read more as they never seem to disappoint.
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @Bookouture and @kierstenmodglinauthor for an advanced copy of @JustMarried

A psychological thriller that has hints of horror and if it were a film it would definitely have you hiding behind the cushions !!
Ryan and Grace are recently married and have decided to spend their honeymoon at a cabin in the woods. Both newlyweds are looking forward to their alone time until strange things start to happen !!
Whilst out walking in the woods they come across a man camping out. He looks like he is living rough but when Ryan tries to see if he is ok the man just stares at them. After Ryan leaves some of their supplies with the homeless man they make their way back to the cabin. Grace feels uneasy about the stranger and even more so when a book is left outside their cabin door with a message inside ……. ‘Janie’s dead and you’re next’. Who is Janie ? Are Grace and Ryan in danger ?
This is a great suspense filled thriller with touches of horror. It will have you on the edge of your seat in places and if you love twists then this is definitely the book for you. Definitely one to read but just don’t go on any holidays in remote cabins whilst reading !!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
4.5 ⭐
OHHH MY GOODDDDD 🤯🤯
I've never seen this much plot twists in one book 😂😭
So gripping and wonderfully written - you definitely don't want to miss this out!
Grace and Ryan are a young couple who are married for six months and finally taking a break from work for their honeymoon.
Ryan has found a perfect cabin in the mountain to spend time with each other and have some privacy away from other people. But as soon as they walked into the woods, things begin to happen near the woods and there is only one man who Grace thinks is responsible!!
This was a fast paced, page-turning novel and I'm so glad I read this!! You won't be bored because they are twists upon twists and the plot is so amazing that I cannot recommend this book enough!!
I received an eARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thrillers are shaping up to be one of my favourite genres to read and this one was no different as i enjoyed Janie and Ryan's twisted story.
This book is the first read of the author and I'm also scared because you really don't know what to expect with their book but Kiersten has made me a believer and know i can't wait to read more from her
Omg - this intense thriller has a plot that is the literary equivalent of a bacon roll or sandwich that leaves you with butter running down your chin after you take a bite out of it, just pure perfection.
The chapters predominantly alternated between the perspectives of Grace and Ryan, a couple who had got married eight months after they had met and the story was predominantly set in the isolated cabin in the woods that Ryan and discovered and booked so they could finally go on their honeymoon. Now, I bet at this point, many psychological thriller fans are screaming, yep, I know where this is going but you would be totally wrong, this thrilling read is so much more than the usual control freak husband and abused wife story. In fact Ryan loved Grace so much that there was times when his comments came across as just a tiny bit obsessive whereas Ryan was at the bottom of the list in Grace's affections. We learn from quite early in the story that both characters are harbouring secrets and that Grace plans to tell her husband something that he is not going to take very well so you could say that the honeymoon was doomed even before they reached their destination. After a very strange and uncomfortable first night at the cabin, the couple decide to go for a hike through the woods which is where they encounter a disheveled, homeless man who appears to take a strange interest in Grace. From that moment onwards they find themselves trapped in a living nightmare as their honeymoon descends into a plot from a terrifying horror movie. Grace was a complex and very difficult character to like at times but as the story unfolded and I learned more about her character I found that I had possibly been a little unfair in judging her so quickly. Ryan can across as a loyal, likeable individual but why did he keep gaslighting Grace, dismissing her fears over the homeless man and refusing to get the police involoved once the situation at the cabin escalated?
In the last quarter of the book, the story slipped back twenty years and were voiced from the perspective of a fifteen year old girl called Janie who found herself trapped with her abusive father and downtrodden mother at the same isolated cabin that Grace and Ryan were staying at in the present day. But who was she and how did her story fit into the events that were unfolding in the present day.
Omg, this book is absolutely bloody incredible, it's a extremely well written, gripping addictive read that had me hooked in from the first page and glued to my kindle. I loved the isolated setting, the story was perfectly paced, intricately plotted, intense and keeps the reader guessing. A brilliant, entertaining read, worthy of more than five stars, very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.
Recently married Grace and Ryan spend their honeymoon in an isolated cabin. Both have a secret their keeping from one another and Grace believes this is finally the time to share. Sharing time is put aside when a note appears at the front door saying "She's dead, you're next."
I didn't remember the description when I started reading this... as is my usual way. So I wasn't sure if this book was going more the way of a domestic drama prior to the crazy happenings but then Just Married started to skew more towards thriller but also with some horror elements.
Modglin created a very atmospheric setting with an isolated cabins, which boasts beautiful views from the large windows looking out into the woods. I found the story intriguing and I finished it in about three sittings.
I found Grace and Ryan to be extremely unlikeable, though that is likely the intent. The POVs switch between the two of them, which keeps the pace moving and you on your toes. This book just didn't hit the spot for me and I can't put my finger on it.
3.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, this book is really treading that line between deliciously messed up and messed-uppedly delicious… Having never read “Gone Girl” but being passably familiar with the premise, I can imagine that if you were a fan of GG, you will navigate the twists and turns of this thriller no problem. A anxiety-riddled, scaredy mouse wife and her codependent new husband decide to spend their honeymoon in a secluded cabin far away from anyone. Especially anyone who could EVER possibly hurt them or dredge up memories of the past… It is so funny, because I am torn if I want to applaud how… creatively ingenious these characters are, or throttle them for how utterly shockingly awful they are. Either way, it has been a long while since I was still thinking this much about a book long after I finished it.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, but my opinions are all mine.
‘Till Death Us Do Part….?
‘Till Death us do part? That is the question. A belated honeymoon, a seemingly idyllic location, what could be more perfect? Twisting, turning psychological suspense with a steady mounting of tension and surprises along the way. An often chilling and compelling read.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. What the heck did I just read? I love psychological thrillers but this was on the verge of horror. A little too descriptive for me. It did have so many twists and surprises until the very end. Overall, a good read.
First, I want to thank Kiersten Modglin, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
WOW!!! If you have logged on to Facebook’s Psychological Thrillers forums lately, most likely you have heard many readers rave about Kiersten Modglin. Everyone can’t say enough amazing things about her writing, her incredibly fast paced stories, and shocking climaxes. Each member of the forum was rushing out to buy multiple books she has written!! I am a huge fan of this genre so you know I had to check out one of her latest! OH YES!!! They were so right!!! Just Married, one of her latest books is oh so good!!! She just gained a new fan that will definitely be reading more of her!
Kiersten would like to dedicate this book to her husband, for never minding too much when I turn our beautiful vacations into stories you can’t read in the dark.
In my eyes one good sign of a good Psychological Thriller author is if they can instantly draw your attention deeply into the book. Kiersten did a fantastic job of this.
The description of the cabin that the couple stayed in seemed beautiful and a perfect romantic getaway.
Secrets were being kept between this couple. One was incredibly tragic and my heart went out to all those involved.
There were some scenes I cracked up laughing at because it was something you would see in a comedy movie. However, not so funny if you were living it in real life!
Just Married’s climactic scenes were incredibly fast paced and adventurous. You will definitely be on the edge of your seat hoping for the best outcome!
Kiersten has an incredible gift for writing in this genre! I can now understand why many are praising her left and right!
Most things I want to say will be spoilers, so I won't say too much. This wasn't bad, but also not my favourite,
I didn't find the characters very likeable, and I found it hard to identify with them. It was also a bit far-fetched, especially regarding what happened to Mariah (sailing close to spoiler territory here), I just don't buy that. But a quick and sometimes engrossing read.
Also a good insight into how the past always comes knocking, so make sure you always watch your back.
Thanks to the publisher and author for my ARC.
I really liked this twisty thriller with a bit of an old school horror vibe. I’ve read a few of Kiersten Modglin’s books now and I have enjoyed them all! Full of twists and turns that will keep you glued to the pages. This one took a little bit to get into for me (the cheesy, intense, lovey stuff in the beginning took a teensy bit longer than I would have liked). Grace and Ryan have been married for about 6 months but haven’t taken a honeymoon yet. Ryan wants to help his nervous wife get away and relax so they head off to a remote cabin in the woods. What they find in the woods is much scarier and intense than they expected. Told in alternating perspectives this book is sure to keep you guessing.
This book psychological thriller has some shocking twists that I loved! Made me want to keep my curtains drawn!
4 stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.
Their characters grace and Ryan are written very well and are fleshed out so the story flows nicely around them.
The twists and turns throughout the book will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat all the way through.
High recommend.
