The Beach Reads Book Club by Kathryn Freeman is a delightful and heartwarming romance novel that celebrates the power of friendship, love, and the joy of reading. The story centers around Lottie Watt, a woman who is unceremoniously kicked out of her uptight book club for not following the rules. Undeterred, Lottie decides to start her own book club, one that focuses on fun, friendship, and, of course, great books.

The book club quickly becomes a haven for a group of misfit women, each with their own unique personalities and challenges. As they gather to discuss their chosen reads, they form deep bonds and find solace in the shared love of literature. The novel also features a charming romance between Lottie and Matt Steele, the handsome owner of the local bookshop. Would recommend as a light read.

If you're a fan of Emily Henry, then you are likely to enjoy this book. It does exactly what it says on the tin and not only is it ia great beach read but perfect for curling up on the couch or if you are in a bit of a reading slump.

I feel this book is exactly the kind of book the book club in the story would pick up. It is fun, light and little predictable but exactly what you need when you choose a book in this genre. The characters are pretty standard; the male protagonist is tall, dark, handsome and mysterious and the female protaganist is quirky and different. Sometimes these characters can be a little nauseating as they appear in so many books but it was exactly what I was looking for when I started reading this. And I would totally be a part of this book club in real life if I could, each character brings their own energy to the overall story and I could picture myself joining them in the banter, laughs, tears and endless glasses of alcohol!

This is a short review but overall this is a charming and easy read that is perfect for anyone looking for something light and nice. Thank you to Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to read this before its publication.

"The Beach Reads Book Club" by Kathryn Freeman is a novel that offers a mix of enjoyable and frustrating elements. While it has its merits, including the ever-popular book club theme, there were certain aspects that prevented me from fully immersing myself in the story.

On the positive side, the bookstore setting and the concept of a book club dedicated to romanced novels were wonderfully portrayed. However, I must agree with some other readers who have pointed out the slow pacing of the romance. And there were times among all of the characters where the dialogue felt forced or overly scripted, including the initial scene of Lottie getting kicked out of her original book club. Wouldn't others have said something as the club leader grilled Lottie like a cranky teacher?

Overall, this earns a respectable 3.5/5 from me. Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is perfect escapism from Freeman as she celebrates bookworms and book-butterflies, creating an inviting book club with Lottie and her friends.

I really liked this story because of its gentle, romantic nature and found that the characters were all warming and likeable. Although there is some slight conflict in the story, there was no obviously detestable personality, so you could not help but like everyone in the novel. I really took a shine to Audrey for her outrageous comments and felt her energy bounced off the pages. In my opinion, she could have easily had more time devoted to her in the story, so brilliant a character she was.

You can’t help but sympathise with the main characters, Matt and Lottie. For Lottie, she yearns to feel connected to a book club and recreate those positive feelings that she had several years ago. This provides her the warmth and security that is evidently lacking in her life. With her run-down house, never-ending bills and not enough money, Lottie struggles but tries to persevere throughout. This made her such a strong character and I admired how Lottie carries on, even when things seem to be so tough. I think the fact that she is an independent woman, working in a man’s world, made her more memorable as a character – many of the things that Matt is drawn to.

Matt recognises how much Lottie is there for others. When we first meet this character, he is incredibly formal and uptight. Yet, there is a vulnerability that Freeman reveals when he is away from everyone. His backstory adds more to Matt’s character and I thought Freeman could have developed this further, especially when it is revealed how much of an impact his past is shaping his immediate family dynamics.

Having read this book, my ‘To Be Read’ pile has definitely increased! I loved reading about the different novels that the optimistic book club discusses and especially liked knowing I had actually read some of them (only a small number, mind!). Matt’s bookshop sounds such a warm and inviting place that I could vividly picture the group members meeting in the bookshop’s café with the delicious cakes and copious amounts of gin. It had me yearning to go and visit a bookshop myself… if anything, just to inhale that bookish scent you can’t get anywhere else.

Another good read from Freeman, this is great for the holiday or just the garden. It is a sweet, romantic tale that takes you on love story between two contrasting characters and celebrates everything bookish.

With thanks to One More Chapter, Harper Collins and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Perfect for the summer!!!
The Beach Reads Book Club is a wonderfully feel-good, summery and light-hearted read, which really puts romance books and their loyal readers at the centre of attention.
I have so much love for this book, it's got all the romance feels, all the warmth we romance readers want from a book. I love the simplistic story which revolves around a book club, the characters are so adorable and definitely swoon-worthy and the story itself is just so good, it's like waking up on a summers day, with a huge bar of chocolates and just smiling, it leaves you smiling, I love it!!

This book was not what I expected at all. Sex seemed to be the main theme in this book. There were some steamy scenes which i did not expect.
The group made great friends and it makes you want to join your own bookclub

A very nice book by Kathryn Freeman. I’ve never read a book by this author before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story and the characters.

When I read the synopsis for this, it really spoke to me - I have been wanting to join or form a book club for a long time, but there has always been the fear that the books I'll be asked to read will be, well, overly serious! There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a good rom-com or other such light hearted genre - it really bugs me when readers get a little pretentious about those of us who love a little escapism from our chosen novels. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy a hard hitting, serious novel but I'm a big advocate for an easy read too!

So back to The Beach Reads Book Club; Lottie Watt is an electrician by day, and an avid book reader by night! When she finds herself kicked out of her local book club, she takes it upon herself to set up her own! Lottie finds herself surrounded by like minded people who want to read for enjoyment, whilst forming friendships, drinking gin and eating cake!

Matthew Steele is the new incredibly attractive but slightly mysterious bookshop owner. He's left his old life behind to buy a bookshop and start afresh with his father and sister, neither of whom seem particularly happy about the move. With Lottie dive bombing into his shop with her new bookclub, it might be just what he needs to loosen up and finally bring his family together.

The books are spicy, the cake is sweet and the gin is strong - this is my kind of book club! There are plenty of books, some laughs, some hot romance - I'm not sure what more you need from a book! I really enjoyed this novel - so much so that not only did Netgalley and the publisher kindly provide me with an ARC, but I went off and bought myself a copy too! If that's not a recommendation, I don't know what is! So go grab yourself a chilled glass of wine, get comfy out under the last of the summer sun and lose yourself in this lovely novel.

This was everything a beach read should be. Romance and reading....what more could I want from a book. I loved each and every minute of this story as I have come to do with a Freeman story.

Loved Charlotte (Lottie) and Matthew's (Matt) story.
She's not your average heroine. She's strong, funny, and feisty.
Matt owns a bookstore, which Lottie and her friends use for their book club.
This is a perfect grumpy sunshine book!

While I love nothing more than a literary work of art, I completely agree with Lottie in the importance of losing oneself in a book that doesn't take itself too seriously. The Beach Read Book Club is the perfect read for someone who wants friendship, romance and, well, the perfect beach read.

A really enjoyable read. Fantastic and entertaining characters, filled with charm and wit. Also be prepared to laugh out loud once or twice.

I really enjoyed the characters in this light romance. They were fun and interesting and had room for depth. There wasn't much to the story, however, and it quickly became repetitive.

When Lottie is kicked out of her book club for not taking it seriously, she starts her own book club. In the book club they only read light, happy reads (if they read the book at all) and there is never a shortage of conversation, cake, and gin. They find their home at a local bookstore and there is quickly an attraction between the owner, Matt and Lottie.

I love books featuring books and this was extra sweet because it’s a love letter to love stories. I loved that I had read so many of the books the beach reads book club was reading so it was fun to see shout outs to some of my favorite romances. This was a sweet, easy read filled with many feel-good moments, little drama/angst, and a very mature, slow-burn romance. I adored the ladies of the book club and would want to join this club myself.

Thanks to HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for the advanced copy. The Beach Reads Book Club is available now.
