How refreshing to read a book featuring a book club, which is a book club of books I have actually read, well at least some of them, or others by the authors at least. Was so nice to see a bunch of book references I could actually relate to!

And Lottie's Beach Reads Book Club is just the sort of book club I would love to join, some book chat about nice easy to read and enjoyable books, without too much of hunting for hidden meanings, plus plenty of cake and booze. Whereas the first club Lottie was part of, was the complete opposite and I really didn't enjoy the literary snobbish nature of it.

Which leads me to think that this book itself has an important message about not judging a book by its cover, not judging those who read beach reads, or lighter fiction, and that there is a book for every reader, and they are all worthy of being loved and discussed. Or something along those lines but phrases far more eloquently than I seem able to.

I loved Lottie generally and all the people that came to her club, and over the course of the book she seems to enrich many people's lives. And Matthew the sexy bookshop owner is great. He surprises himself at time with his actions but you can tell there is more to him than you may first think.

Honestly I just loved every second of this book and just wish I had been on holiday to have had some uninterrupted time to read it as fast as I would have liked to. It's fabulous and another winner from the talented Kathryn Freeman.

Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,

As much as I loved the fact that there were real books as the topic of the beach read book club, for me this book never quite took off and dragged on for almost a week until the obvious ending. Maybe I was tired, maybe the book was boring, I don't know, but it certainly isn't memorable.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

This book should should come with a warning that nothing else will get done while reading this and a box of Man-size tissues. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much over a book. In a good way. I loved the way the characters developed and how Matt transformed. But then Lottie learns things while dispensing help in her own inimitable way. I want to visit this bookshop. I want to drink gin with Audrey, I’ll bring my own bottle! I want to read and discuss books with all of them. I didn’t want it to end but also wanted it to so I could see how it turned out. As nd yet more tears. I loved this book

The Beach Reads Book Club is a brilliant book, I really enjoyed the story and it seemed like they were having so much fun at their book club. Lottie and Matt are great characters, and I look forward to reading more from Kathryn in the future.

The Beach Reads Book Club is such a fun, light read! It is the perfect romance for this summer/beach reading! I loved the cast of characters and would love to be in this book club. I also enjoyed the references to other romance novels (some of which I've read, but some I've added to my list, haha). Would definitely recommend if this is your genre of choice!

4.5 stars rounded up

Oh my goodness, another home run of a fabulous romance novel! If you love books, book stores, and romances, then read this book! What a fun read it was! Our lovely protagonist sets up a sexy romance reading book club and finds herself in a love triangle. Who will she choose and why? You must read the book to find out! Anyways, I really enjoyed this book and would certainly make Freeman a future auto-buy author for sure!

This was my first read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised! Although the story centers around Lottie and Matt, there is a lot going on in the character's individual lives and this gives them a lot of depth. I particularly liked Matt's development in the book from someone who is so closed off ( we also learn why) and mysterious to someone who is much lighter and happier by the end. The intricacies of familial relationships are also well developed and everything ties up nicely in the end.

This is a romance but not just that. It is story about friendship, loss and also finding help in unexpected places. It is also a lesson in having the courage to change and being open acts of kindness.

I really enjoyed it and it definitely kept me interested until the end.

While I love nothing more than a literary work of art, I completely agree with Lottie in the importance of losing oneself in a book that doesn't take itself too seriously. The Beach Read Book Club is the perfect read for someone who wants friendship, romance and, well, the perfect beach read.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was a fun and light book about books which I always love – and also about friendship and starting over. Oh yes and there’s romance, too! I quite enjoyed the stories that emerged about the different book club members and the fact that a multitude of ages and backgrounds were represented. This will make the perfect beach read.

My thanks to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book before its publication date.

Good. Even though at times the two main characters were exhausting to read about as I know it is more true to life that they face problems until they eventually get together but it just felt like there were too many problems. Also the sex scenes weren't well written so it just felt so awkward to read. The only thing that saved this book for me was the beautiful friendships that were made between the other characters and the book recommendations interspersed in the story.

Lottie Watt has always enjoyed reading, and that is what prompts her to join the book club in the local library. However, Eve - the woman who runs the club, has managed to strip all the fun out of it by refusing to allow anyone to drift away from her scripted questions. Lottie has had more than enough of Eve and her condescending ways, so she decides to start up her own book blub - aptly named The Beach Reads Book Club.

The new club meets in the local bookshop/cafe - Books on the Bay, which has recently been taken over by the dark and mysterious Matt Steele. Lottie is unsure what to make of this man to start with, as he avoids conversation and walks around the shop suited and booted, but the attraction between them is instant. Lottie is still getting over the departure of her ex Henry, and Matt has been through a rather messy divorce himself, so both of them are looking for anything but a serious relationship.

As the book club continues meeting in the bookshop, with the numbers growing slowly but surely, Lottie and Matt are thrown together time and time again, and before long the sparks between them become too much to ignore. But when Lottie's ex Henry walks back in to her life wanting her back, Lottie is unsure of which way to turn, and where her heart truly lies.

Full of humour, love and a strong sense of friendship, this book was an absolute dream to read!. I loved the connection all of the women in the book club shared with one another and how their loyalty to one another went far beyond the walls of the bookshop. They became good friends and confidents in one another, and helped each other through some difficult times along the way. Matt Steele is utterly swoon worthy! i loved his dark, mysterious vibe and as the story progressed and we got to know him better, he soon captured my heart too.

A wonderful book that I would highly recommend to others!

This was such a beautiful book. Wonderfully bookish and a slow burn romance. The characters are great and I loved the storyline. It has the perfect ending.

I saw this title and I knew it would be perfect! In fact, it was even better than I expected!

I love the idea of the book club. Not not the one when you analyze all stylish aspects, historical background and read only Pulitzer prized positions. I like this one when you can read and talk about books that you really enjoyed and have fun with. To be honest, I definitely more likely a "hot romance" team.

Of course, it is not only about books. It is about friendship and relations. How to find someone to spend free time with, how to get a new goal in life, or just sit and talk. With gin. Or tonic. Rather separately than mixed together.

A small town by the seashore, old bookstore, and few women who want to do something more than sitting alone at home - this book is so inspiring for all of us. To find your own voice, own interest, to don't be ashamed of what you like to do, read.

So heart-warming, with a love story that makes my heart melted. Perfect for summer days, beach trips, waiting in the airports, or just a lazy morning with the coffee before the heat.

Ps. If you read carefully, you would find some nice books recommendation here! I read all of these and you really need these for summer. Of course, after "The Beach Read Books Club"

Lottie Watt joined a book club and got a rescue dog when her long-term boyfriend Henry accepts a job with a newspaper in America, but as the months have passed she realises that she has begun to dread book club because the books are always so worthy and the discussions about the books are more like an exam. After being called out for failing to read My sister, the serial killer and wanting to talk about more than just a book, Lottie decides to start up her own book club, a book club that likes romance novels, just the sort of thing you like to read on a beach holiday, and so The Beach Read Book Club is born.

Matthew Steele was a trader in the City, but after his mother died he left London and ought a house and a bookshop on the South Coast of England, hoping to make a new start with his father and his younger sister Amy. Unfortunately, neither his father or sister appears to be happy, especially not with him, and he doesn't seem to be able to let go of bad habits. Quiet and reserved, a recent divorce has left Matt feeling adrift.

Lottie persuades Matt to let the book club use the café attached to the bookshop once a month for two hours after closing time. Soon the club consists of Lottie, her pregnant BFF Sally, a pensioner with a penchant for gin and raunchy romances called Audrey, a lonely middle-aged married woman called Gira, and a divorced single middle-aged woman called Heidi. The book club reads books by Jilly Cooper, E.L. James, Christina Lauren, Julie Caplin, and Helen Hoag to name just a few - which is great because I have read several of the books myself. However, whilst Audrey might rate the raunch factor, the book club is more about friendship and helping each other. Slowly but surely Matt and his family are drawn into the book club and Lottie sits at the centre, bringing people together and helping them find their way.

I really liked this book and it slightly reminded me of the film The Jane Austen Book Club, Kathryn Freeman is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.

I was offered a free copy of this book by the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Books about books are one of my favorite tropes. Also uptight guy falling for free spirit? What else could you ask for? The story was perfect and all of the supporting characters were as well developed as the two main characters. The even discussed some books that will be added to my TBR list!

I couldn’t finish this one. I read 45% because I wanted to be fair, and I hoped something would happen, but it was page after page Lottie lusting after Matthew and Matthew lusting after Lottie. Rather than slow burn romance it just felt repetitive and uninteresting. I’m so sorry…I wanted to love it. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the chance.

This is my first read from this author and it definitely won’t be my last!

The Beach Reads Book Club is a witty and fun story about a lovable electrician, Lottie, who walks out of her bookclub having lost her love of reading due to its boring structure and heavy monthly picks. She decides to start her own club with her friends “The Beach Reads Book Club” - you know the kind of books you want to take on holiday and sit by the pool. The new and charmingly handsome bookshop owner agrees she can use her space but the sparks between them cannot go unnoticed!

The characters were honestly so relatable, I absolutely loved them! Was so heartwarming to see them sticking together when spying on Gira’s potentially unfaithful husband and chipping in for Lottie’s van. The twist of Henry coming back definitely put a spanner in the works, I can understand Matt’s reasons for allowing things to unfold but in reality, the happy ending doesn’t always plan out by doing that.

I felt as though something was missing between Lottie and Matt’s relationship. They start off to be anxious and fumbling round each other and then Matt proceeds to act awkward and release mixed signals and then suddenly they are into an established routine with each other. I just felt that the author lacked an important conversation or turning point in the relationship so that the readers could feel that deep connection between the characters start to unfold.

I also felt that the relationship between Matt and his family. I would have liked to have seen more of a resolution between the three of them rather than a gradual build like what we saw in the book. The author could have went deeper with the themes of grief adding to a much more compelling and gripping read rather than a “Beach Read”.

Overall, a very fun and enjoyable read. Definitely wish I had saved this for reading by the beach ;)
