What a great read this is. I loved the characters, the laugh out loud moments and the underlying messages of loyalty and friendship
Lottie is a bubbly character who decides to start her own book club and asks Matt, the new owner of the local bookshop, if she can hold her meeting there. Matt has moved to the area with his sister and father after his mother’s death. He is the total opposite to Lottie, very reserved, but they find themselves drawn together.
I loved the ladies of the book club and enjoyed sharing their stories. The dog Lottie adopted also made me laugh at his antics. All in all a book well worth reading
The Beach Read Book Club is a romantic comedy about a book club who become friends and a community through coming together and reading romance books. It's a story about friendship as well as romance, which is plentiful, as book club creator electrician Lottie and up-tight book shop owner Matt have some serious chemistry. But Matt is tortured by his past; how he failed his wife and his family, and Lottie still hasn't got over ex Henry, who chose his career over her, leaving her with a broken heart. We have to find out if Lottie is ready to move on and let herself feel for someone new, and if Matt is ready to open up and loosen up.... and what's going to happen when Lottie's ex shows up? Well, you'll have to read that for yourself.
I particularly enjoyed the idea of this light hearted book club, because I'm in one myself as well as a serious book club, and I love the bonding that happens whilst chatting about books. The addition of actually telling us what books were being read was great (there's only really light, spoiler free discussion about them, so don't worry about that). Several of the books in the book club I actually looked up and put on my to-read list, so if you're looking to find more romance books to read, this could definitely help!
A few things didn't quite hit the mark for me, I'm not a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey and the eight or so mentions of it either as a joke or some sort of reference to sex, didn't really hit the mark for me. The treatment of the original book club - as someone who enjoys both serious and light books - seemed quite unfair and negative, and there's a tiny twist associated with that at the end that annoyed me.
Overall a light and mostly entertaining read. I'm going with the Goodreads start system of three stars = liked it.
I loved the characters in this book. They had come together with a love of reading, but ended up really becoming a sanctuary for each other.
I was assuming it would be more steamy, but I don’t have a huge gripe with that.
I thought the romance was cute. It was a slow burn and sweet and I am rooting for those two!
I appreciated that the main character Lottie was an electrician. Kind of a weird anecdote, but I think we’ve all read enough books where the female protagonist works for a magazine or a bakery.
The tension and the steam between Lottie and Matt is intense! The Beach Reads Book Club follows independent and bubbly Lottie in her quest to create a new book club at the local bookshop run by straight laced Matt. Matt is a mystery to Lottie in more ways than one but as they get to know each other the tension and the passion heats up until something or someone gets in the way.
An easy and enjoyable read about friendships, romance, and relationships and the entire cast of characters is great!
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
The Beach Reads Book Club is about our main protagonists Charlotte or Lottie for short and Matt who have both been heartbroken. Lottie belongs to a book club but after not connecting with several of the members or the books being read she decides to start a book club of her own along with some friends from the aforementioned book club. And so The Beach Reads Book Club is born. Their meetings are held at this little bookshop that is of course owned by Matt who has been a former workaholic and is dealing with his heartbreak and the loss of his mother. Soon enough the book club expands and it's now more than just a book club but rather the support system they all needed.
I enjoyed the concept of this book and especially the fact that the majority of the characters were women. You get a glimpse into the lives of each of these strong beautiful women whether it be about their marriage, personal goals, or even their passions. Despite being a romance book, I liked that other aspects were also portrayed, such as strong friendships and a challenging family dynamic. I also enjoyed the dual perspectives which allow you to understand both protagonists better.
Overall I enjoyed this book, its characters, and its concept. It was a quick and easy read.
I really enjoyed this book - the main characters are charming and engaging, the storyline is entertaining, and it just made me happy all around. The title is so perfect for the type of book it is - an excellent beach read. It also made me really want to join a book club! This is at least the second Kathryn Freeman book that I've read, and I'll for sure be on the lookout for more.
A lovely story of recovery and love, Lottie a fiercely independent electrician, getting over a broken heart. After attending a regimental book club decides to start her own light hearted club. Matt new owner of the book store, moved from London after the death of his mother and sad divorce. Bringing his reluctant sister and father to help him and bring the family together. Matt agrees to let Lottie use his book store as the venue of her book club but doesn't bargain on falling in love wit noh her. A really well written book that keeps you interested right to the end..totally recommend
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I found this book absolutely delightful and such a fun summer read. I found myself actually laughing out loud so many times at the antics of these nutty characters. I adored this book!
This was my first book by this author and won't be the last as such an easy read and of course plenty about books which will cheer any good reader up. Certainly a laugh out loud book and plenty about romance friendship and having laughs while also heartache to. The characters are all brillant and all have their own issues but can they sort them out.
Lottie belonged to a book club but is kicked out as she can't follow the rules and she turns up with out reading the chosen book as they aren't books she likes. She decides to start her own book club up and has her meetings at the local book shop and cafe owned by Matthew and as they meet their love for each other increases to and can they really be happy or not. They all enjoy talking about the books they read and enjoy talking about them and as their friendships get closer so do Lottie and Matthew.
A perfect rom com book and worth more than the five stars.
This was delightful, just utterly delightful and lived up to its title; I brought this along for my camping trip and really had to drag myself away from the book. The main characters are well written, the side characters are such fun, and all the issues are settled realistically. This had me smiling the whole way!
My thoughts:
This is why I love reading and why I love my book club. It's so much more than talking about a shared passion. It's about having fun, chatting with people you care about and being able to vent. It's a support system. This all is what books are about. I really enjoyed this book and adored the characters, especially Audrey. Lottie is the most bad-ass women I know and she's so caring. It's written from both Lottie's and Matt's perspective which is great as you can really look inside both their minds! Highly recommend it!

SYNOPSIS:
When Lottie Watt is unceremoniously booted out of her uptight book club for not following the rules, she decides to throw the rulebook out the window and start her own club; one where conversation, gin and cake take precedent over actually having read the book!
The Beach Reads Book Club soon finds a home for its meetings at Books by the Bay, a charming bookshop and café owned by gorgeous, brooding Matthew Steele, and as the book club picks heat up, so too does the attraction between Matt and Lottie.
The Beach Reads Book Club is a delight. Not liking the militant nature of the book club they currently attend, a small group forms their own club so they can focus on the romance novels they love. Uptight fairly new bookstore owner Matt agrees to let the group use the cafe section of the store and the fun begins. The diverse characters and their antics and observations are as funny as profound, and Matt soon learns not to be written off. Nothing is too sacred to be discussed...except perhaps, on occasion, the chosen book. This is a story of friendship, support, loving, helping and clean romance. It’s a keeper. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
Lottie decides to set up her own book club when she doesn't agree with the books being read in her previous club. She ends up having the club in Matthew's book shop even though he wasn't happy. Great book loved it.
Loved this story! This book club is awesome and I loved all the characters! Just a fun read!
Lottie leaves her stuffy book club and starts a new one with some new friends and a couple gals that left the other book club with her. She asks Matt, the local bookstore owner, if they can use his store for their meetings. And that's the start of their romance.
All these characters are so much fun to get to know - Lottie and Matt. Matt's family - his dad and sister, the book club ladies and their significant others. The book club might be the start of their gatherings, but so much more is soon involved - the ladies are strong characters and the way the support each other is awesome.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. The Beach read Book Club is a slooooow burn romance between electrician Lottie and book store owner Matt. I absolutely loved the book club ladies taking about raunchy reads such as The Kiss Quotient and Beautiful Player. I loved all the side characters. Highly recommend this rom com published June 30!
you had me at the title of Book Club. Anything with books in the title and I am there for the ride to enjoy no matter the journey it will take me on. I love book themes. Was a good read.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this novel!
This was a slow burner and I got a bit inpatient time to time, but in the end I really enjoyed it. Matt was a darling and Lottie was sweet, and their story was entaining.
I started this book with high hopes and, oh my god, was I not disappointed. The author gave us two wonderful protagonists, Lottie and Matt, with all the heart and flaws we may need to actually feel for them. We get to see them through each other eyes and it changes everything.
But really, my favorite part of this book is all the people around them, from family members to Beach Reads Book Club members. I would run through fire to be part of this kind of bookclub, with books that make us smile and cry and laugh. Never have I seen my view of rom com and beach reads better expressed than in this wonderful book.
This is one book club I would walk over hot coals to join. It's not just about the books, it's the ladies in the group, the cake, the raunchy books they pick, the gin and of course the gorgeous book shop owner, add in a weeing dog and a baby, then this has got to be the book club to be a part of. Matthew Steele takes ownership of a cafe/bookshop with his dad & sister in the hope they can build a new life together. Wanting to become part of the community, he allows a book club to run from the shop once a month, not quite realising just what he would be taking on! Lottie is the lady responsible for starting up the club and also for restarting Matt's heart, but with an old flame turning up, what will the future be for them all? Highly recommend reading this book.

Lottie Watt loves book club - until she has to make a very sudden and not graceful exit for not following the rules. So now she wants to bring the fun back to book club and decides to start her own - where the fun, the cake and the laughter is far more important than rules, where you can read 'books we'd want to take on holiday, and books that take us on holiday.'
And so, The Beach Reads Book Club is born and have their first meeting at Books By The Bay, a very cute bookshop cafe that was reluctantly offered by Matthew Steele, the gorgeous but slightly prickly owner and his family. As far as first meetings go, it's one for the history books.
But as the pages start to turn, Lottie starts to learn that maybe Matt isn't so scary after all, maybe he's just got another story that's waiting for the right person to read it.
Kathryn Freeman always has a way of bringing strong, beautiful women and mouth watering romance together in a winning combination that's always impossible to put down. Right from the beginning, I was sucked in and needed to know more about not just Lottie and Matt, but the whole eclectic cast of the Beach Reads Book Club. From Audrey, a lonely retiree with a skill to always find the best sex scenes, to Sam who's been desperate for adult conversation since they had a baby, to Gira who is convinced her marriage is falling apart around her - each character was so full of life and love that as each chapter went by they felt more like old friends.
Without even knowing it, Lottie was forming a community- not just a club. It was a place all of our characters came together and learned to be better friends, better people, and just have fun.
And while the friendships of this story were absolutely wonderful - of course there's the prospect of romance in the air. But Lottie knows despite how many epic romances she's read, nothing is ever simple when it comes to matters of the heart - there's always baggage, unresolved exes, or a dog who doesn't like you very much getting in the way.
"If you think that's what romance books are all about, you've clearly never read one. They're about hope, about joy. About handling adversity and coming through the other side stronger. Yes, they're also about love, the most powerful emotion you'll ever experience."
I so badly want to be a part of this club, and finding out what they were reading about every month was an absolute delight - I was so happy when they discussed books I'd already read (Love Square was brilliant) and I'll definitely be checking out the rest of their reading list now too. As I've said before, I'm a sucker for books about books, and this one was the gin and the tonic.
