This book is a fantasy reader's fantasy come true!

The world building is brilliant. The characters well defined, with believable character arcs. I absolutely loved the crotchety dragon.

Though this is book1 of a spin off series, I did not find it difficult to understand what was going on at all.

Definitely recommend.

I have long been a fan of James' since way back when she had 2 books under her belt. I pretty much have bought ALL her books, but waited to jump in on this one. I often hold back on favorite authors/series to 'reward myself'. In this case, I was tired of delaying gratification any longer. The opportunity to read & review this new spin-off series was just too good to pass up~
James is what I call, "a heavy hitter'. Her books are in the top five of the SciFi/Fantasy Romance genres. The writing is intelligent, well-crafted stories that are well-edited. Her style/story voice is her own and from the get go, the characters & action keep the reader enthralled. I also adore the fact, that embeded in her writing are references to history, myth, legend & pop culture for those who enjoy puzzles. This first book to her Dragon Tails series is no different. This series, like her Pure/Dark Ones series is a 'thinking woman's' indulgence. The layers are impressive. Her characters are fleshed out, unique in their personalities. People I wish I knew.
She plops them down in time with a tongue-in-cheek humorous dialogue that made me giggle. James knows exactly how to make the absurd believable. My brain goes on the adventure with Ere, Sorin, Rui & her Wolfe from the moment I read the first chapter. She makes you WANT to live the adventure along with her characters. The diversity & relationships are real. The scenery fun. The sex is incredibly hot, romantic, tender, beautiful, raw & a host of other adjectives~ she's got this down to an erotic art (yes, people have sex in real life, so why not in books?). And the plot is wrapped up all nice & tight with an HEA bow.
James rounds out my top 5 authors of the year with this book. I've already bought the rest & pre-ordered a couple. Definitely a series I highly recommend. Definitely.

Dream of Dragons is the first book in the Dragon Tails series which is a spin off of her earlier Dark Ones/Pure Ones series. This is the first book I have read by Aja James and judging by the ratings of her previous books on Goodreads she seems to be a very popular author in the paranormal and fantasy romance/erotica genre. She definitely has a huge and loyal fan base.

I wasn't sure what I would expect from Dream of Dragons besides a lot of steamy sex scenes and the book actually begins with one but it turned out to be quite good and well written with a decent storyline consisting of dragons, a quest and a twist in the Arthur and Guinevere tale.

This was ok. Was definitely not what I expected. Liked the characters but the storyline was just ok. Was not really looking into any kind of historical fiction. Not my regular read.

Ooh this was a fabulous read! I've only read one of James' books before and I'm wondering why I haven't read them all! I loved Ere and Soren, they're such a perfect couple and balance each other out well. I think they've probably been in other books before this one so I'm going to read those too. I also liked Rui and her Wolfie, these couples kill me with how adorable they are.

The plot is fun and I liked the little jokes and sass from the characters (mostly Ere.) The twist on the King Arthur legend was done in an entertaining way and everything fit together well. There's also plenty of romance and hot and heavy scenes which is how I like my books lol. I can't wait to check out the other books in this world!

I have been a fan of Aja James since her Pure/Dark Ones series first began, and she can hook a reader like no other! Her stories are intricate and build on each other, so I would recommend reading this series in order. This is a spin-off of the Pure/Dark Ones series, are there are characters that recur in this story from those books, and while you can read this without having read the previous series, I would recommend reading Pure/Dark Ones first if you can/are so inclined because it was nice to have those familiar characters intertwined into this story.

This story is a twist on the King Arthur and Guinevere tale, and the main characters, Wolfe and Rui, are perfect in those adapted roles. They are always entertaining but also super steamy and fun. The pages FLEW by and before I knew it, the story was over, Thankfully, there is another book in this series to fixate on next, so I am looking forward to learning more about this new world that Ms. James is building and keeping up with my favorite characters for stories to come :)

I haven't read the other series that this is a spin off from but I felt I didn't matter.
I was gripped from the very beginning of this book and didn't want to put it down.
I will.certainly.be looking for more from This author.

- PNR with dragons!
- M/M and M/F with a badass female protagonist (separate couples)
- super hot smexy times
- a quest!
- plus, skewing historical legends on their ears!

I have a confession... This was my first Aja James book. (I know, I know.) I have been slowly collecting her Pure/Dark Ones series with the intent of finally reading my horde of books but I just hadn't gotten to them yet. (I read a review and it made the book sound like there were super tortured heroes (and/or heroines) like what Sherrilyn Kenyon writes, and I just couldn't handle that much drama, so I kept putting it off.) Well, now I feel super dumb for doing that, because damn! Where has Aja been my whole life?

The Dragon Tails series is a spin-off of the Pure/Dark Ones series featuring Ere and Sorin (Dark Purity) where they are tasked to perform certain tasks for the Jade Emperor.

The first task Ere and Sorin must complete is to find and retrieve the Jewel of Dreams. Tagging along with the super sexy duo is Rui, a treasure dragon. They travel back in time to Arthurian England (You know, King Arthur, Lancelot, Guinevere, Merlin, and all that lot.) and get totally ensconced into the "legend" with a few fun fantasy spins and twirls. (It was so good, ya'll!)

First and foremost, I really felt left out because I immediately wanted to stop and binge the entire Pure/Dark Ones series to get the full Ere and Sorin effect. Not that I felt left out in the cold but because they were just such a great couple and as characters themselves.

Second, I loved the antithesis angle between Rui and Wolfe. Would-be enemies to lovers, Dragon vs. Dragon-Hunter, naive and pure (read: virginal) woman versus grizzled and experienced warrior but also super badass kung-fu (not really but Eastern fighting style) versus Arthurian, knights of the round table style fighting. Anywho, I dug it. Plus the chemistry between Rui and Wolfe was palpable.

The whole story experience just really did it for me. I loved the entire take on the King Arthur legend. Ere and Sorin sort of stole the show for me but that's not to say I didn't really enjoy Rui and Wolfe's story. I really hope we get some closure of Merlin, because, damn, that poor, poor dragon.

Just a note: There is some really delicious M/M action going on, so, just know that ahead of time if that's not been an experience you've read before. It's totally up my alley so I loved every second of it. The overall story is a M/F story, if reading a completely queer book is a concern. No judgment, we all have our preferences.

I would definitely recommend this to fantasy and PNR lovers and I absolutely cannot wait to read Song of Dragons! (Which I totally scored an arc copy for so I will def be binging that one soon too. Yay me!)

Not quite sure what to make of this book that uses Arthurian Legends woven throughout the book. As a fan of Arthurian Legends, I've always seen Arthur as powerful not an empty shell. That being said I did enjoy the story on its own merits. I look forward to seeing where this author takes this series next.

Drama, adventure, love and magic reside within the pages of this very well written journey through the inner and outer sanctums of reality.
Steamy of course, exotic and engaging without a doubt, characters who will elicit emotions of varying degrees and who will subtly engrain themselves into the reader’s heart to be sure.
Fantastic read and highly recommended.

I rarely DNF a book, but this title just wasn't for me. It started off with a long sex scene and that isn't the way to capture my attention with a book. While I'm FAR from being a prude, starting a book with a scene like this screams that the entire book will be short on story and heavy on the sex. I need the sex to enhance the storytelling and not be the driving force. I'm not saying this is 100% the case here, but it got me off to a bad start and lost my interest. As a result, this is a DNF for now and maybe I'll explore it at another time. It could prove me wrong.

Overall I very much enjoyed this fantasy/PNR fusion, and despite initial concerns it does read as both a standalone and separate to the Pure/Dark Ones series. I did put this down for a few day, fairly early on, as I found the character of Erebus to be extremely irritating. I'm pleased to report that he did get less so as the story progressed, though that may equally have been because we saw less of him. He was an OTT camp mix of Julian Clary and John Inman's character (Mr Humphries) from Are You Being Served?


Since I had only reached the 11% mark, I picked this back up and actually went on to enjoy it. Whilst it didn't take itself too seriously, the author blended Arthurian and Welsh legends together, twisted them sideways and created quite a compelling story. It even, in part, explained why those tales are so blurred. It wasn't the most complex of world building, but it very much suited the story, setting and characters, so I've no complaints there.


What didn't work for me, hence temporarily setting it aside, was (a) it starting with a sex scene between two characters from a previous series and (b) Erebus. This is a spin off, in effect an entry point for new readers who have zero connection to Ere and Sorin, who care not one jot for them, so for us the sex scene felt clinical, a little crude and entirely unnecessary. It took far too long to meet and get to know the actual protagonists of this book, Rui and Wolfe - much longer than it's taken me to mention them!


Rui left me cold at first, but that's all part of her character arc and it didn't take long for me to absolutely adore this little firecracker. She was a beguiling and utterly believable mix of kick-ass warrior and naïve kitten-y dragon. She's definitely up there as a favourite heroine. Wolfe was so mean, moody and ruggedly gorgeous, I loved him from the first moment we met. Not only did I buy their developing relationship, I was fully invested in it - I may even have had a "must be hayfever" moment or two towards the end. Sigh. So good.


In summary I went from regretting requesting an arc of this (and the next one) to having found an author I want to read more of. If it hadn't been for that initial "gah!" of the first few chapters I probably would have given this 5 stars. I'm definitely looking forward to reading Song of Dragons.

This is an Arthurian retelling, with dragons, phoenix's, time travel, magic and lots of sexy times.
This story starts of with a bang, literally, the opening scene is some hot guy on guy action, with who I thought were our main characters based on the synopsis, but Ere and Sorin tend to be more background supporting cast in this story even though it's technically about Ere repaying a debt he incurred when he was allowed a rebirth.
We mostly follow Rui(dragon in human form) and Wolfe(dragonslayer in the dark ages) who are incredibly attracted to each other, which confuses Rui who's never had these feelings before and worries Wolfe because he's a bastard and unworthy.
I don't often enjoy Arthurian retellings because I tend to find the plots very sluggish, but this was a fun, very sexy romp where Guinevere is the villain of the piece. I hope Ere and Sorin are more of the focus in the next book though, I like the contrast between the characters and would like to see more of the depth between the bonded mates.

I didn’t fully appreciate that this series was a side story / follow on from the Pure / Dark ones series and got myself in a bit of a panic as I have only read 4 books in this series so far.

In truth I have read this book and have been able to pick up the threads quite easily and haven’t felt as though I was missing pertinent information.

This story to me was like the book cover! It is colourful, immersive, full of fun and action with some sarcasm and a fair bit of steam thrown into the mix.

I still class myself as fairly new to the world of good paranormal books and sorting the wheat from the chaff can be a laborious process. I have tried a few books about Dragons that have definitely been chaff. This book is definitely wheat!

I loved all the main characters and their developments and interactions with each other. I loved the mixing of the historical time with the modern references and the world building was great. I can’t wait for book 2 in this series.

I requested this book on a whim because my entire goodreads feed was raving about the other and I definitely wasn't disappointed! While I initially had some trouble following everything that was going on since I'd never read the series, I was drawn in from the getgo by the amazing characters, the funny yet loving banter and the story at large. Definitely going to have to go back and read James' backlist now to make sure I can be ready for any new releases!

This was a great book, well-written and entertaining. Action packed, clever, snarky, steamy and funny, it held my interest and I didn't want to put it down. This is the first book in the Dragon Tails series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author.

very interesting story... has a good plot.. good writing.. curious characters.. it made me smile and happy.. it made me feel as if i was a part of their lives.. it was fun to read and made me smile.. it was very good.

This book is the absolute best start to a series. It really kept me turning page after page until the very end. You can start this series without having read the first series but this series made me want to go back and read the first series. I am already devouring the second book. This book will get you hooked quickly. But don’t take my word for it pick it up and get hooked yourself!

Wow wow wow!! Firstly thank you Netgalley and Aja James for a chance to read this. It is my first by the author and I went in blind. I am happy to say this that it did not disappoint. Aja James has created a world that absolutely rocks.

I don't know where to start and what to say. This is a page turner and has fabulous characters that will make you love, laugh, know what passion and friendship is. Now that we are talking about characters, Wolfe the hero has had a tough childhood. This has made him strong, smart, caring, loving, scarred and a monster slayer.
Rui, the heroine is badass. She is naive, thinks she has no sense of humor but is fearless and can kick anyone's butt. Rui is everything in a female character that you would want. I loved her.
Ere and Sorin are people who balance each other with Ere's quirkiness and Sorin's calm nature.
Going through author's profile I got to know that Ere and Sorin have their own story and I can't wait to read it.

The plot revolves around a quest which makes it intriguing. Aja James has given vivid descriptions that you will enjoy each phase. This book is filled with intense emotions, everything ranging from fight scenes to banter to character development, the author has written it magically in a different world and time.

I love dragons and know many of you do too. So this combination of dragons, magic, smut (lot of it) is waiting for you to be picked up. Having the ARC of second book Song of Dragons with me, I can't wait to start it. Go ahead, check this out and add it to your list.

I'm not sure if I read this within the series that I might have been happier with it. I just felt lost and couldn't get into the book. It was well written, so that wasn't the problem. I'm sure someone else would have enjoyed it. Not my kind of book.
