This cookbook is just a fun humorous cookbook but make sure as the consumer you are not seriously looking for actual recipes. These are just mostly silly ideas that came from the cartoon and over simplified to create in real life. I can see giving this as a gift to a true simpsons fan but nothing other than that.
A brilliant interpretation of the food from the Simpsons - each recipe is lovingly crafted and the attention to detail is amazing.
This book included all of the foods that we know and love from the Simpsons. The recipes are easy to follow, doesn’t require any difficult ingredients, and are delicious. I recommend using this to bring the Simpsons to life!
The most fun cookbook you will ever purchase! Tons of Simpson recipes brought to real life. Who hasn’t watched an episode and wondered what a recipe would taste like? Now you can try!
The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook by Laurel Randolph is a colourful and bold book. Set into sections of breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, dessert and drinks. Each secretion has a small selection of recipes.
It has classics like Krusty Burgers and Sloppy Jimbos, Floor Pie and Flaming Moes. The recipes are easy to follow and seem nice, though maybe not for everyday use. There’s a lack of pictures which I think is disappointing but otherwise a great book.
Review to come to blog on August 28th/later on goodreads/other sites.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
So, I got to confess that I got nothing with The Simpsons show. Nothing. I tried watching it, but it just wasn't my show. However, I couldn't resist this fun cooking book. While the Simpsons may not be my show I do know some of the food things one sees on the show and also a lot of the characters, thanks to the internet. Plus, I am always eager to learn new recipes/find new recipes to make at home.
This one was a ton of fun to read! Some references I got (yay internet) and others not, but I still really liked them! The recipes are very easy to follow and all get a fun introduction telling you about the show/the food item you will be making. There are cooking-tips to give some extra flavour to recipes or what to look out for with ingredients. I definitely got hungry while reading (and that while just having had breakfast). Quite a few of the recipes had photographs with how the food item would look like if you are done. While I loved these, I would have liked photographs for EVERY recipe. For me it is so important to see what the food will look like, as I often base my "should I try this one or not" on photographs.
I love that each recipe has a what episode was this food featured/mentioned on including the season number. That is such a nice addition, now you can watch the show while eating that specific food item. Not something I would do of course, but a die-hard fan, I can see them do that. Haha, I know I would have done that if I was a fan of a show and had a food item that matches.
I am glad that they added a conversion chart for US/Metric, though that one is at the last pages of the book. I would have rather seen things be directly converted instead of someone, like me, who lives in metric like most of the world, have to go back and forth and write all the things done. Plus converting... it is just annoying. I have tried making recipes with converting but it just gets too mathy for me and the joy is out of it.
All in all though, this was a fun cookbook and I am happy I got the chance to try it out. I would definitely recommend it!
A fun cookbook for fans of The Simpsons. A variety of recipes inspired by dozens of episodes are included with brief descriptions and episode information. The recipes are fun,
but I wish there were more pictures of the food (real or cartoon).
Thank you Adams Media and NetGalley for providing this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook.
I've been a fan of The Simpsons since I first saw an episode on the Tracey Ullman show. And, no, I'm not going to tell you how old I am.
I was thrilled to receive an ARC and I love all the jokes, the puns, the references to the episodes, I laughed every time I read the blurbs before a recipe and the foreword.
Jokes aside, the recipes are nothing to write home about. It's not visually appealing, the photos are quite plain and not something you would see on Instagram.
Most of the recipes are pretty straight forward and simple; others require a few more steps.
I did like the inclusion of a drinks section where you can find familiar cocktails like a Flaming Moe.
The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook would make an awesome gift for a Simpsons fan but not something I would use as a 'real' cookbook.
This perfectly cromulent book would embiggen the gift-list of any Simpsons fan. From Flaming Moes to understandably inauthentic Sloppy Jimbos, the book supplies recipes for many of the famous and infamous dishes featured in the much-loved series. I wasn't inspired to make any of the recipes, although they seemed thoughtful and intelligently put together. (For instance, the turkey for Homer's Third Wish sandwich is dry-brined, so it won't be even a little dry.) The descriptions of the recipes and references to the series are fun and funny.

This was a surprisingly standard recipe book.
There aren't a lot of pictures, and the pictures there are are of real life food, not cartoon-y Simpsons food. There are donuts, waffles, chili, spaghetti, and other pretty standard foods. The book lists what episode each food is from, but there's not much Simpson-y touches beyond that.
It's an interesting idea that may appeal to die hard fans of the series.
I really love how bright and colorful this cookbook is. I also love how it's divided up into different meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, and desserts. I loved the Simpsons when I was younger, so I'm really excited to try some of these recipes. They're simply laid out and have really easy instructions, so that is really nice and helpful. I also really like how each recipe says which season or episode it came from so that I can go back and watch them if I want to.
What an whimsical idea for a cookbook! When I saw the title I was practically drooling like Homer at a plate of donuts.
The recipes inside the cookbook definitely evoke all my fond memories of The Simpsons and call back to all sorts of different episodes. This would be a cute series of cookbooks potentially if there are more candidates (Flintstones, Jetsons, Family Guy, South Park)
The recipes actually contained inside are on the simpler side though a few are more extravagant and gourmet. The real prize here lies in the way the recipes stick to the show and kind of transport you to Springfield.
This would be a must grab for any die hard fan of the series and a home run for a Simpsons Watch Party.
I received The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook as part of a NetGalley giveaway.
The Simpsons, a pop culture phenomenon for over 30 years, has spawned memes, catchphrases, theme park lands, feature films, and countless media and collectibles. In The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook, Laurel Randolph delves into the countless dishes that have been mentioned and prepared on the show.
I'm not going to lie, given the bright, cartoonish Simpsons aesthetic, I was expecting Instagram-friendly dishes with a lot of visual appeal. Instead, these are fairly straightforward, simple recipes--think chili, spaghetti and meatballs, etc. On the whole, they were actually probably a bit too simple for my taste, though I appreciated the depth of inclusion by citing the episodes from which specific recipes came, and the inclusion of a few fun classics (The Flaming Moe!) was also a nice touch. Maybe not a cookbook I'd draw from regularly, but it would certainly be a fun gift for the Simpsons fan in your life.
