This series is becoming one of my favorites. The character of Eve Ronan has grown a lot since the first book in the series. She has become more in control of her life and her job. in this installment, she has to deal with a series of home invasions in wealthy neighborhoods. She and her partner take on the bad guys with a lot of action and a bit of comedy mixed in. Then there is the mysterious death of a young baby that rocks her to her core. She has empathy for the mother but there are questions that need to be answered. An excellent book with twists enough to keep the reader guessing, humor enough to make you smile, and mystery enough to keep you reading until you get the answers.

I thought the premise of Gated Prey, the new book (#3) in Lee Goldberg's Eve Ronin series (full transparency, I have not ready books #1 and 2) sounded good, but the writing just didn't work for me. Maybe if I'd read the first two books in the series, I'd feel different. I found the characters to be, well, caricatures.

Ronin , a detective who exposed corruption in the department is just trying to do her job. Her partner is close to retirement and is counting the days. An undercover assignment in a rich and well disposed community ends with three bad guys dead and Ronin an object of a docmockumentry. It seems every assignment is not what it seems and Ronin is getting fed up . It’s funny in the way cop shows aren’t anymore. It’s put upon Ronin and her just want to retire partner makes for fun and in the end Ronin has her answers and the wheels of justice creak along. I can hardly wait till the next installment. I really love this series. Eve Ronan is an interesting character. Her cast of supporting characters is even more interesting. The plot was interesting & highly engaging to the point I couldn't put it down. The twists & turns of her investigation are not only amazing but unexpected. I cannot wait for the next book.

Summing up Eve’s backstory which is that Eve a lowly deputy sheriff , arrested a Hollywood he man Star after knocking him to the ground with one punch. He was hero who was slapping around his lady friend . This was all caught on video by bystanders and soon posted on the internet , making Eve a public relations hero for the LASD. Eve was promoted to Detective in the Robbery / Homicide squad., which earned her the enmity of veteran officers who had served for years without promotion.
In “Gated Prey, “ Eve and her partner Detective Duncan, an overweight cop within two months of retirement, are on a sting operation to entice and capture a group of house thieves who target high end homes in gated communities. This sting operation quickly comes to a bloody finish- except for some loose ends, at which Eve and Duncan keep pulling. By the time they are done, the detectives have more surprises on their hands : a miscarriage with a dead child, a “ mall cop “ becoming a hero for killing a fleeing armed robber and Eve getting more media attention..
Eve Ronin is a wholly likable character . She is driven by a need to prove her worth as a detective to their colleagues and almost obsessed with
exacting complete justice .She generally ignores the advice given by her more experienced partner and drives herself to near mental and physical exhaustion to finalize a case. Often putting herself in danger, she has the reputation as having a quick temper and fast fast gun.
I liked the relationship between Duncan and Eve: he the mentor who tries to make her job relationships better, her the willful, but talented , apprentice. The conversational byplay can be amusing cop humor. The crime puzzles are well plotted and intriguing.I found all the books in the series very good reading, with exciting climaxes and just a hint of more adventurous trouble for Eve Ronin

Gated Prey is the third installment in the Eve Ronin series about a Homicide Detective promoted after a viral video. Despite solving several cases and uncovering corruption inside the force, she’s still resented my most of her colleagues, but she has the support of her partner, Duncan Pavone, and that of the public.

Ronin and Pavone are working undercover on a series of home invasions within gated communities. When their honey trap gets hit things quickly go sideways and, although her superiors consider the case closed, she’s convinced there’s something more behind and soon her tenacity will prove her right.

This is such a fun police procedural series. The author’s background in television shows in each and every single page, so while reading it you feel as if you’re watching an episode of a hit tv-show. I love the Hollywood vibes the wholes series has! Despite some violence and death, it is not a dark read as the story is laced with some humor to lighten the mood.

Eve is such a great character. Despite some of her flaws one can’t help to root for her. She’s dedicated to her work and has proven herself more than once so seeing how she’s is still disrespected by most of her colleagues makes me so mad!

This time there were two different investigations that, although not related per se, have some commonalities that will help Eve to solve both cases.

The pace flows nicely from the start and short chapters help to keep turning pages without even noticing.

Although it can be read as a stand alone as it gives enough background, it is a really enjoyable series so I would recommend starting at the beginning.

I can’t wait to see how this story progresses. How will she manage once Duncan retires? Will the tv-show about her life impact her career in the Sheriff’s Department in a positive way? I’m counting the days until the fourth book in the series comes out!

Detective Eve Ronin is the lowest ranking, but most visible to the public, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Her partner, Duncan Pavone, is counting the days until retirement while trying to break the LASD curse that gets retiring members killed. Ronan and the entire team have several open cases to work, and events unfold quickly over just a few days. The investigations are professional, planned, and organized despite the undercurrent of dislike among coworkers. Some cases are clear cut; some are filled with complex twists and turns, and others come to dramatic and tragic ends which make headline news everywhere.

“Gated Prey” gives readers a feel for the landscape, culture, and varied geography in the greater Los Angeles area. Of course, there is that “only in LA” car chase and Dr. Hoggly Woggly’s BBQ. (My personal favorite) I received a review copy of “Gated Prey” from Lee Goldberg, and Thomas and Mercer Publishers. The book is well written, quick to read, and filled with fascinating characters in unusual situations. I recommend the entire series; there is a continuing thread of characters and relationships throughout the books, but each story stands alone.

Mr. Goldberg has written another engaging Eve Ronin police/crime thriller. Eve, a Los Angeles County Sheriff detective, and her partner, Duncan Pavone, are posing as a married couple. They are in a gated community in Calabasas where there have been a number of violent home invasions. The partners get the bad guys, dead, case closed.

Eve is not so sure. She begins to think that it could be related to her having exposed corrupt deputies. Eve and Duncan are called back to the community for another death. Things begin to get complicated.

This is the 3rd book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. I recommend reading the first two in the series to understand some of the references to past events. Gated Prey is a fast read, you won't want to put down. It has humor, mystery, great characters, and action. Cannot wait for the next installment.

I will never turn down a chance to read another Eve Ronin story. I've been reading these since they started, and each one has been a unique police procedural with engaging characters and great writing.

In this one, Eve and her partner Duncan are undercover as a filthy rich couple. Someone has been getting in to gated communities and robbing homeowners, and they're determined to lure the culprits and stop their wave of crime. That case goes pretty much as expected, and the leadership in the city and at their department are eager to wrap it up with a bow and call it done. But Eve and Duncan have to trust their instincts when something feels a bit off about the crowd-pleasing end of the crime spree.

While still hanging out in the gated communities where they've been looking for similarities to solve all the break-ins, Eve ends up called to the scene of a stillborn baby and its distraught mother. She thinks that one is just paperwork, but a phone call early the next morning leaves her chasing another series of clues to a different crime.

Eve Ronin is a unique hero, and not a very stereotypical police officer, either. I'd recommend this series to anyone who enjoys quick thrillers and police procedurals. I gave this one 4 out of 5 stars, and I'm looking forward to reading what comes next.

This is the first book I read in this series and won't surely be the last as I want to read the previous novels.
A riveting, highly entertaining and well written thriller featuring a strong woman, Eve Ronin, and plenty of humor.
I had fun, read it quite fast and think it's a page turner.
Highly recommended.

I was excited to see “Gated Prey” on @netgalley and requested it right away since I thought the first two of Lee Goldberg’s Eve Ronin were great police procedurals with a strong female MC - still rare in this specific genre !
Receiving this eARC allowed me a return to this great series and following a strong, but inexperienced and flawed female main character and see her kick ass and stop at nothing to get justice. 
Eve’s still a stubborn, hard-headed, single-minded and her - soon to be retiring partner Duncan Pavone is badly needed to smooth some edges since her methods piss off just about everyone she encounters, but she cares about the victims and gets results. 
I love the setting - Los Angeles County and specifically Calabasas, too.
This is a series to keep an eye on if you’re a fan of police procedurals, formidable female characters, and stories with great pacing. You can jump in on any book, though reading it from the beginning will add depth and understanding.

Gated Prey is the 3rd book in the Eve Ronin series. I had only read books that Goldberg co-wrote so I was glad to have a chance to read some of his solo work.

"LA County Detective Eve Ronin and her partner Duncan Pavone are running an undercover sting, hoping to catch the criminals responsible for a rash of home invasions. The criminals take the bait but it doesn't go well for them - all three are killed. The chief thinks the crime is solved but Eve is not so sure. There are unanswered questions and Eve doesn't want to stop looking."

Goldberg has a great writing style. There's humor in the crime fiction but also some great characters. Eve struggles with her position in the Sheriiff's Department. Many of the deputies are angry at her success and that she was promoted so quickly. But she's tenacious and willing to push the political boundaries to solve the crime.

Fans of Evanovich and Coben will enjoy this book. Great, entertaining story from Goldberg

The <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/249851-eve-ronin" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em><strong>Eve Ronin</strong></em></a> series is like other police procedurals I read, only it isn't.  Eve is a new homicide detective in a misogynistic, political  department in Los Angeles California. She became famous in the first book for arresting a tv star behaving badly, which helped her get the promotion.

Eve has a tough balance between the others in the department who actively try to sabotage or even harm her, and continue to harass her,  and her greedy family who want to use her to get themselves Hollywood parts.  Eve is not taking great care of herself but she continues to knock it out of the park on solving cases and catching criminals.   She is very dedicated to her job and has almost no other life outside working.

It feels there is no one on her side, except perhaps her partner who is retiring.  She finds now she doesn't know him as well as she thought she did.  But he sticks up for her.   There are few other detectives who acknowledge her excellent work.   The players and the situations keep changing.

The case work and police procedures seem somewhat realistic, even though the corruption seems a bit over the top.  But the Hollywood and image aspects feel totally ridiculous.  It gives the books a lighter feel even though the crimes are very serious.   The collection and review of evidence is smart and strategic without the immediate results like the tv shows.

<strong>Gated Prey</strong> has a good balance of the case and personal issues.  I'd love to see Eve catch a break with a bit more of a personal life and some support from friends and family though.

Once again, I immediately got sucked back in to Eve Ronin's world. I love the relationship between herself and her nearly retired parner, Duncan. They make an unlikely duo but it works.

In Gated Prey, Eve and Duncan, are undercover trying to lure in the theives behind a string of robberies in the Calabasas community. The robbery attempt goes poorly but ultimately leads to the discovery of another gruesome crime. As Eve is still not a favorite of most of the Lost Hills police/detective force, she and Duncan run into some problems trying to fully solve both crimes.

Gated Prey is fast paced and easily read in a few hours time. I was over halfway through with the book before I even realized it. Fans of police procedurals will enjoy the Eve Ronan series.

Mr. Goldberg delivers another fascinating and fast paced mystery with the “all for justice” Detective Eve Ronin. Eve is still dealing with issues from her last case with corrupt deputies being fired and one committing suicide. During a sting operation to catch a team of violent home invaders, the case expands to three deaths and a missing woman. Eve and her partner Duncan Pavone, who is set to retire in several months, almost make the death total five when the sting goes bad. In the same area, a woman came into the community, but never left…at least she never left alive. Eve will slowly and methodically piece the two mysteries together with astounding results. She still has to watch her back as there are deputies who believe that she turned against her “brothers in blue” and that she needs to be removed from the force. The respect shown and the sarcastic dialog between Eve and her partner, are some of the highlights of this second novel. This is the third book in the series and each one keeps getting better. I love this series! It has fast-paced action and the book moves quickly along. I love that is set in the San Fernando Valley and Calabasas area. I look forward to the next book in the Eve Ronin series.

Lee Goldberg has become one of my favorite authors and I love the character of Eve Ronin! This is the third book I've read in this series and I've enjoyed every one of them. There's plenty of action, some humor, interesting stories, and crisp writing.

I did suspect from the beginning that one of the characters wasn't what he seemed so I was smugly satisfied when my hunch turned out to be true.

I worry a bit about what's going to happen with Duncan retiring!! But I'm eager to find out how things will turn out. Can't wait for the next book!!

I was so excited to read this third entry in the Eve Ronin series, I first discovered this series when the first book, Lost Hills, showed up on a recommended reading list. I am a fan of efficiently plotted and well paced crime novels and police procedurals and add in a strong female lead and I am a big fan from the start. Eve Ronin (death fists!) is definitely one of my more favorite female detectives in some time and I often recommend this series of fans of crime novels and procedurals.

This third book is just as strong as Lost Hills and Bone Canyon and continues to highlight the outsider status Eve has within her department, her relationship with her any day now retiring partner, and her ruthless belief that truth matters more than fitting in. The focus on home invasions, a take down gone wrong, and questions about whether the criminals (perps...) were actually caught or if Eve was set up following events that unfolded in Bone Canyon. What is something else is happening among the rich and elite? I again appreciate the fast pacing, quick narrative and strong plot development Lee Goldberg gives to readers, the plots are believable, tightly woven, and filled with enough detail to keep crime fans happy and engaged. I am already looking forward to the next Eve Ronin book.

I recommend this for mystery fans, crime fiction readers, and readers who like police procedurals. My mystery book reading group enjoyed Lost Hills at my suggestion and I will be encouraging them to read the other entries in this series.

LA County Sheriff's Dept Detectives Eve Ronin and "Donuts" Pavone, find themselves in the crosshairs of someone- not who they expected - when they play bait to catch criminals who have been active in Calabasas. Bad things happen, they figure it out, and so on - you know how that goes- but this is best for the two main characters. Eve is both young and inexperienced while Donuts is doing the best he can to get to retirement without getting shot. They're fun. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. It's a nicely written and well plotted read.
