I’ve really grown to love the Loveswept line of books from Random House. Every time I read one I’m amazed at how wonderfully they are written and what awesome stories each one is. I’m pleased to say that Doc Holiday by Debra Dixon fits this description well. Taking place over the Christmas holiday season we watch as two people with an awkward past and very different outlooks on life manage to find their way to each other despite many missteps along the way.

Taylor Bishop has taken care of her family since her mother died when she was 14. Thrust into a nurturing role, she’s finally at a point in her life where she wants to live a little. Having helped raised her two youngest brothers, she’s not interested in settling down and has no intentions of having any children in the near future. Sometimes fate is a fickle creature and when Drew Haywood, her childhood crush and her brother’s best friend, arrives on her childhood home’s doorstep she’s reminded of all the reasons she lusted after him for so many years. Unfortunately Drew is a single father and therefore, Taylor decides she’s not interested in him.

It was really hard not to like both of these characters. I felt for Taylor because as much as she loves her family and doesn’t regret the time she took to help them, at age 29 she really is just starting her own life. Since she’s always felt something for Drew, it’s hard to back away and though she tries she finds it impossible because they not only share history, they share remarkable chemistry. Drew just got me right in the heart; a man who was denied so much time with his son and now finds himself a full time Dad. Not that he’s not excited and up for the challenge, but he’s struggling. He knows it and he seeks out Taylor to help him give his son the types of Christmases he remembers sharing with her family. Then there is Noah, Drew’s son, who steals every scene he’s in and at times breaks your heart. I really wanted to bundle him up and just love him.

Honestly reading this book, I can see it made into a Lifetime movie. It has all the wonderful feelings you get when you watch a holiday classic. Old friends reunite to bring some joy and magic into the life of a little boy whose life has been turned upside down. Through ups and downs and trials and tribulations they manage to find each other and love along the way. It’s a bumpy road; they both make some mistakes but in the end, love wins. This is a feel good holiday story; one you will want to read year after year. If you are need of some holiday cheer, Doc Holiday has just the cure for you!
