I enjoyed this novel by Juliette Fay. I missed downloading it from Netgalley and had to borrow it from my library, but I'm glad I caught it as it was a great read! I especially enjoyed the slow burn romance between the two main characters and the educational aspect of people dealing with addiction. As someone who has only ever been addicted to one thing (sugar), I found this part of the book very intriguing but also heartbreaking. I couldn't imagine struggling with an alcohol addiction and I found myself cheering for Cass and hoping for a happy ending for her and for Scott.
A redemption story as Cass grieves the loss of her boyfriend Ben, both alcoholics. She soon finds out that she is pregnant with Ben's baby and wants to do better for the child. Cass goes through the struggles of becoming sober and the reader learns why and how she and Ben got to where they were. I was completely immersed in the characters and learned a lot about the daily struggles an alcoholic faces.
Thank you, NetGalley, for an audio-ARC of Catch Us When We Fall written by Juliette Fay and narrated by Piper Goodeve.
A tender, touching, emotional story that you feel in your heart. Fay creates characters that are broken and messy and makes the reader fall in love with them. A book that teaches us to help each other and take risks for those we love. Goodeve's narration adds intensity to the story. Her use of emotion and tone makes the reader more invested.
CATCH US WHEN WE FALL is filled with exposing and building relationships, one dangerous, one volatile, and one built. The characters were well developed and the reader grows to care of them. The book has some elements of darkness, but you do Pre Diane Le of hope throughout.
Enjoyed this audiobook quite a bit and will be recommending it for purchase, especially because of the narrator. They brought the book to life and made me care about the characters more because of the calming voice.
Catch Us When We Fall by Juliette Fay
This was the deeply moving story of Cass Macklin, a young woman trying to deal with an unexpected pregnancy in the wake of her boyfriend Ben’s death and years of alcoholism. She turns to Ben’s brother, Scott for help to get sober and start over.
I listened to the audio of this story and the narrator wasn’t my favorite. I like to speed up the narration and when sped up, it sounded like the narrator was in a tunnel. I was still able to enjoy the story, it just wasn’t a great audiobook.
This was such an emotional story that gripped me from the first chapter. I was always rooting for Cass and her unborn baby. This story made me feel so much empathy for what people go through in terms of alcoholism and substance abuse. This story was raw and real, but filled my heart with hope and love. These characters will stay with me for a long time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I am a fan of the author and this book continues that devotion.
Cass Macklin is a woman who has had no breaks in life and falls madly for Ben McGreavy. They became alcoholics and contribute to the destruction of each other. When Ben dies, Cass finds out she is pregnant and with no resources, home, or life, becomes attached to Ben.'s brother, Scott.
I couldn't help but become invested in the characters' lives and hope they emerge better and happier people
I was rooting for the characters which meant the author did a superb job of describing them.. I especially commend the author's depiction of alcoholism and the means by which to combat the horrific addiction.
I listened to the audio book. The narrator was amazing. I really felt a part of the characters; lives. When their lives were on an upward tick, so was I and vice-versa. That takes true talent for a narrator to convey to a reader such emotion.
Great book!
