Review:
This was an easy read but it didn't pull me in as much as some other rom-coms I've been reading. I liked the neighbourly piece - I've had crushes on neighbours in the past, so it was cute to see that explored. I listened to it on audio so sometimes if I'm not listening attentively, it can also affect my enjoyment of a book, which I feel was the case with this one.
I an effort to make an honest review I want to be candid in saying that although this book wasn't for me, I think that others would enjoy it very much. I had trouble really getting into it but I think the tropes were great and the premises sounded amazing.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for giving me a free eARC of this book to read in exchange for my review!
A simple and sweet romance, however I didn’t really see a hated towards the two main characters like I thought I would. Grace and Noah practically hate flirted like middle schoolers so it was extremely easy to see what was going to happen in the end!
Thankyou Netgalley for the early read.
My first and definitely won’t be the last book that I ready by Sophie Sullivan! I was beyond captivated from the first page to the last!
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
This was a lovely, if slightly forgettable closed door romance. It felt predictable (not always in a bad way) but Sullivan's rich characters pulled it from a three star to a four star read.
Didn’t like this book and it was so boring. There’s a special formula for enemies to lovers and not everyone can do it correctly. Sadly this book was one of the ones that didn’t do it.
This book was such a fun read! I particularly liked the chemistry almost from chapter 1, between Grace and Noah. There are a lot of hiccups along the way in this book, and I found that I just couldn't put it down. I couldn't wait to see what was next! Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me a chance to read this book. I would definitely recommend it for a good rom-com read!
delightful and heartwarming romantic comedy that explores the complexities of love and home. Grace Travis, a determined young woman, plans to fix up a beach house and find her sense of belonging. However, her plans are thrown off balance when her grumpy and attractive neighbor, Noah Jansen, becomes an obstacle. As they engage in a feud, Sullivan beautifully reveals that sometimes your greatest adversary can be the one who helps you discover where true happiness lies. With its charming characters and captivating storyline, this book is a sweet reminder that love can bloom in unexpected places.
I'm so sad this one didn't turn out to be as good as I wanted it to be. Sophie Sullivan is a favorite of mine, especially with her first book, Ten Rules for Faking It. This one just fell flat for me. Hoping to read her most recent soon!!
*Thank you @stmartinspress @smpromance for the #gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. Review not post to Amazon/Goodreads because rating 4 stars or less.*
Thank you SMP Romance and NetGalley for the eARC of How to Love Your Neighbor! All opinions in this review are my own.
The house next to Noah has been vacant since he moved in and he really wants to buy it in order to expand his backyard. When Grace finally moves in, Noah immediately offers to buy her house. Little does he know, this house was Grace's grandparents' and she can't wait to renovate it. In this close proximity, hate to love romance, Noah and Grace grow closer as they both deal with the problems of rennovation.
I have to admit Noah walked a very fine line for most of the book. I find that sometimes hate to love romances push so far into the hate territory to start that it is hard to recover from once the characters fall in love. Noah's tendency to solve his problems with money got old quickly, however, I was glad we also had his point of view. I think without hearing his side of the story, Noah would have come across as a much shallower character and it would have been hard to believe that he had genuine feels for Grace.
I love how the tension built throughout most of the book but both characters acknowledged that they wanted different things. I appreciate that Grace recognized Noah didn't want a relationship and wasn't trying to "fix" him until he was ready to truly be with her.
I liked Noah and Grace's romance but I'm really excited to go back and read Chris and Everly's romance in Ten Rules for Faking It!
Thank you to Netgalley & the publisher for providing me with an ARC!
This book was so cute and would be the perfect summer read. The character development, writing, & pacing was well done.
I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a cute romance book!
I can see the real appeal of “How to Love Your Neighbor” and why so many readers were drawn to it but it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.
For starters, the characters were a big no-no. Noah, the leading hero, whole personality was his wealth, making everyone say ‘Yes' to him, whiny and immature behavior. He also belittled the heroine on multiple occasions, and always ended up saying sorry with gifts whenever Grace catches onto his BS. And time and time again, she forgives him. There was nothing compelling about his character and I find it hard to believe Grace would fall for someone like him.
Aside from the characters, the enemies turned lovers were poorly executed by the author. I found it funny that throughout the book, a good amount of characters kept mentioning how much ‘chemistry’ Noah and Grace had. Insert confused Pikachu face. What chemistry?! There was none whatsoever. The chemistry, tension, build-up between the characters were non-existent. Everything about their relationship was so quick—from being enemies (eyeroll), flirty neighbors and then falling madly in love all in the first quarter of the book.
The dual perspective writing style wasn’t doing the book any favors either and it’s bluntly obvious the dialogue was poorly written. It just felt like I was reading fanfic off Wattpad or something. There was no substance to this complementary romance and was overall an uninteresting romance I didn’t care to finish.
A cute RomCom with the Grumpy vs Sunshine trope.
A few swoon moments and some cute banter.
Liked this one!
This book was just sadly not for me! I was hoping for something different but it turned out to be something I was not expecting, which is okay and I'm sure someone else would love it!
This is such a delightful romcom. It has a bit of an enemies to lovers vibe. The characters are charming and it’s a cute book.
I had ultimately decided not to read this title after seeing that, at the time, it had under 3 stars on Goodreads which is just massively low. The star rating has increased but my TBR is way too long to read something with such bad reviews.
How to Love Your Neighbor by Sophie Sullivan
What a cute romance novel that was written by someone who most certainly knows how to write a great book. This one is very captivating with one of my favorite characters from another book, Noah. Then she adds Grace who is an interior designer and the book becomes perfect. You will find that love is worth waiting for in this romance story of a lifetime.
5 out of 5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley as well as the author/publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.
Cut Romance! Loved it!
Sophie Sullivan blew me away!
Fun times!
This was a fun, cute read with good character development.
I absolutely LOVED the banter! Enemies to Lovers gets no better than this!
No spoilers with my review! This is a must read for 2023!
Overall I give this book 5 golden stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I want to read more books that make me laugh, and I'm happy to add HOW TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR to that growing list.
I was hooked by the cover alone - the crossed out Hate is that one simple thing that made me want to read this book. I just knew that it was going to be a lot of fun. HOW TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR is described as an enemies to lovers romantic comedy, but I think it's more like strangers to friends to lovers to friends to so much more. I loved Grace and Noah's game of getting to know each other.
HOW TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR was a fun take on Trading Spaces and House Swapping. It was a fun, feel good book about figuring out who is important to us in our lives and making time and space for those people.
"We need to stop trying to prove ourselves to people that aren't even paying attention."
From the acknowledgments:
"To all of the people whp are afraid to jump because the landing is uncertain; I hope you find the courage to take the leap. Even when the landing hurts a bit, it is so incredibly worth it."
I love this so much and it's why I always read the acknowledgments.
