This is a delightful and short children's story about a man who's trying to get a family of mice to move out of his home by writing them letters describing better places to live!
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was absolutely wonderful, I loved his Irish accent and voices he did, it really made the book come alive. Overall, it's a very cute and precious book!
A cute little story. An ideal introduction to chapter stories for emergent readers aged 6-9.
As an educator, I believe this story could provide a nice lesson stimulus to persuasive writing and letter writing.
This will keep the little ones engaged! The reader is clear and appropriate accent for the content.
Although the storyline sags a bit in the middle, the ending ties it together.
There is a home for us all, no matter our taents.
Okay, this book was stinking adorable. I enjoyed listening to it so much. The Narrator had the perfect voice for telling the story, and I loved the point of view of the owner and the mice. The descriptions are vivid, which makes the book truly enjoyable. I've listened to it a couple times and will be sharing it with my kids. This is an excellent book for a young reader, AND their parents!
This was such a cute story I chuckled the whole time and I look forward to listening to this with my kids. It follows a mouse family and a man living in the same house while a man tries to get the mice to move out of his house. He tries everything but the mice are just so happy where they are no other place is good enough. The narrator was great for the audiobook and the story flowed really well. Definitely enjoyed the story
Super cute story. It's about 35 minutes so easy to divide up into a couple sessions with children who may not be able to sit through the whole thing. Great narrator with an Irish accent which adds to the cottage feel and atmosphere. The narrator tells the story of the FInn who tries to rid his house of a couple of mice by writing them letters with suggestions on homes that they would like better. It was fun to journey with them to all the places they went.
I like short stories very much. This one was so fun to read and I reckon this would be a great success among kids/scholars or adults who have trouble reading, or just readers like me who enjoy a nice funny short story to relax on a Sunday afternoon.
It will also be nice to have a second part so we can know what happens next with Finn & Company,
I had also, the pleasure to read the digital copy at the same time and it was a lovely journey.
A funny short book for children about a man and a live-in mouse family. If you have a chance to choose the audio version, I recommend that you do so. Paul Collins' narration adds so much to the experience.
It's only 32 minutes - a bit long for a bed time story but a healthier alternative to screen time for a rainy afternoon.
Thanks NetGalley, IBPA and Whistle Oak for this Advance Reading Copy.
Thanks, NetGalley for the audio book in exchange for a review! Performance by the narrator was great. A very inventive book for young readers to imagine interactions with...mice! Through old fashioned letters no less. So cute!
5 stars for narration I really enjoyed being able to sit back and be read to
5 stars for the story It appeals to audiences of any age
This is a cute tale about a family of mice who believe they have their forever home.
The gentleman with whom they live has other ideas about that.
He tries to be polite. He tries to be helpful. He tries to be persistent.
And when he finally DOES find the perfect home.....
You will be smiling
Out Mouse by Valerie L. Egar, is a thoroughly charming tale about two mice who have set up shop in Finn's home. The narrator (Paul Collins) has a lyrical Irish accent that gave depth of feeling to Finn's exasperation when trying to dissuade Mr and Mrs Mouse to leave.
Who knew that the best way to get pests to vacate a home was to write them a personal letter with recommendations of alternative abodes?
Or that mice were literate!
I've already said too much.
It's a short fun read that I will delight in reading again.
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for a copy of this book in return for a candid review.
Delightful! What a great read, looking forward to adding this to my kids collection of readers. I thought the narration of the audio book was especially fun and perfect for kids to read along with!
This was such a wholesome little read! I adored this approach to getting rid of mice, especially for younger readers who perhaps are fearful of the tiny creatures. Writing a lovely letter and trying to find a home for the mice where their (let's be real, high-maintenance) requests are met was so cute.
Recommending this to anyone who has a kid at home and wants to drive home the message "treat people - and animals - with kindness"!
Cute story but frustrating ending. A battle of mice and men, who shall win. So true to life sometimes.
The story is about a man who has two mice living in his house. He decides to negotiate with them by finding them other places to move to.
I loved it! The story is so light and humorous. I expected he would lose his temper, but the ending exceeded my expectations. A hilarious turn of events!
I recommend it to anyone looking for something fun and short.
I listened to this audio book today with my Granddaughter, she is 7. At first she wasn't too sure about listening and initially found the narrator a little hard to understand. She thought he spoke a little too fast. However once she was used to listening she really enjoyed the storyline. She wanted to write a letter to a mouse just in case there were any in her house. The story made her laugh and it was a joy to listen to it together.
I would highly recommend this audio , especially if you have a little one who is reluctant to read. This audio book about the old man Finn and the letters he writes to help mice move out of his house to somewhere better will really fire their imagination and its a great way to spend time enjoying a love of books together.

This story follows an old man named Finn who finds himself living with Mr and Mrs Mouse. He tries to convince Mr and Mrs mouse to leave his house by writing a series of persuasive letters explaining why another location would be much more suitable then his little cottage.
This was a fun and charming book that would be perfect for children of all ages. As a teacher, I recognised it potential for the classroom straight away. This short chapter book is perfect for teaching persuasive texts and would make a great activities for students as they could write their own letters to Mr and Mrs mouse.
I really enjoyed the narrator for this one and I think children would love it too.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
My daughter and myself listened to Out, Mouse in the car on a day trip. It was adorable! The narrator had a wonderful voice and the pacing of the story was easy for a nine-year-old to follow. The story opens with Finn discovering that two mice are living in his house! He follows the rather creative advice from a book about finding the mice a new home and then writing them a letter with the details! What a wonderful adventure! I can see this book easily fitting into any classroom and it there are so many questions that a teacher could ask the students, especially about the clever ending. Well done, Valerie L. Egar!
This is a cute and imaginative tale perfect for young readers. With a simple story format and few characters it’s perfect for reading aloud. The funny ending with the ironic twist makes this whimsical story even better. The narration is also perfect in this audiobook. Very soothing tone and well done.
Out, Mouse! by Valerie L. Egar was an entertaining chapter book that had me laughing from start to finish. I loved how the chapters alternated between Finn’s point of view and the mice’s. It helped me understand both sides of the conflict and made the story all the more charming and humorous. Paul Collins did a spectacular job narrating this story, giving each character a distinct voice. He was easy to understand, his accent suited the work well, and the audio quality was perfect.
While it struck me that it was best to just sit back and enjoy this story, I can see how Out, Mouse! could be used to improve children’s analytical skills and manners. For example, parents, teachers, and other caregivers could open up discussions with children about the importance of considering others’ feelings and what certain characters should have done differently. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a fun story that those young and old can enjoy, I highly recommend Out, Mouse! by Valerie L. Egar.
