This will be a cute addition to a new baby's library. Adorable pictures and the text is sounds made when splashing about.
This is a children's/baby board book that I read with my twin boys. In this book it as a lot of different sounds/actions, and there is just a few words on each page. I used this book to let my boys to sound out the words, and they are in k/1st grade. I think this book is great for baby/toddler age, and Pre K/K if you help them sound out the words. The pictures are bright and cute, and they are great to caught the eye of younger kids. I wish there was a little more to this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Orca Book Publishers) or author (Deborah Kerbel) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
The PERFECT read aloud book for story time! The art work is bright and cheery and the text is silly in the best possible way! This is a perfect addition to any preschool classroom!
Swish, Slosh is a perfect book for toddlers through early elementary! This pictures are captivating and help the reader with context. This book is great to foster conversations about reading with inflection and using onomatopoeias. A great book to have in a early education classroom!
Swish, Slosh is a fun children's picture book about the adventures of a boy and his dog written entirely in onomatopoeia. I love reading these kinds of books to my toddler. They are fun to say out loud and the illustrations in Swish, Slosh just adds even more fun and adventure. I read this to my toddler and he kept asking me to read it again. This book will go on my list of books to gift new parents. Thank you #NetGalley and #OrcaBookPublishers for allowing me to review this wonderful children's book.
I received an advanced reader's copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The youngest of toddlers are likely to think this book is super fun. It's entirely made of sounds. Like Swish, slosh, giggle, bloop, etc. The book is cute, rhythmic, and colourful. If you're looking for a story then look elsewhere. Instead this is pages with words that are sounds (some that are quite obscure). It would be easy to get your toddler laughing as you yell or whisper these words out. I could also see babbling babies picking up on some of the words if repeated to them enough times. Older toddlers are likely to have a favourite word they wait to say with the reader. There is a lot of fun to be had here as a quick daytime read.
Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.
A cute board book that littles one will love to read over and over with easy words as they learn to read.
What a perfect board book to show cause and effect and the many ways our everyday life brings noise to our ears. So sweet! I would definitely buy! This would be oh-so-fun if it was a bath book that could go inside the tub!
What a great book for younger kids! The story is made up entirely of Onomatopoeias. What sound does a sprinkler make? Toothpaste when you squeeze it? My toddler would crack up at this book.
As a school librarian of kiddos preschool through twelfth grade and a collection that spans birth through adult, I'm constantly on the lookout for fun read-alouds for classes and for parents. I won't be using this one with a class, but I will highly recommend it to parents. Told in clear, crisp illustrations and solely onomatopoeias, this is a really unique find. You can easily extend the book's text by asking what is happening in the pictures and if your child can think of any other sounds. It would be a great after bath/before bed book.
Reading out loud to a child is one of life’s greatest joys. Swish Slosh by Deborah Kerbell offers the sights and sounds that a child will love. Swish Slosh is written in onomatopoeic and the follows the antics of a young child and his dog. This toddler read aloud combines the wonderful illustrations of Jacqui Lee with the rhythmic lines. The readers will love the sounds of woosh, swoosh, slosh, splosh as our characters visit the beach, have a treat and go to bed. Great addition to any child’s library.
This book will come out October 12,2021.

What a fun book! A perfect read for toddlers, who will find the sounds and pictures enjoyable and intriguing. Also a wonderful read for siblings - if you have an early reader and a younger child, they will bond while giggling over words like "squelch." I will definitely recommend this in the library! 5 stars

This book uses onomatopoeia to make up the sound words in the story. These fun sound words describe the fun escapades of a boy and his dog. Parents can have fun sharing these funny words by using different voices. It is a fun book for little children.
A cute book with lots of onomatopoeia throughout! It has cute illustrations, but it doesn't seem to be "catchy" enough to entice a child to want to read again, unless it is to hear the funny words.
This is an adorable board book that infants and toddlers will love. The illustrations are beautiful and the expressive text is perfect. Swish, slosh will bring story time to life with exaggerated dialogue which helps with verbal development and entertains young and old.
Swish, Slosh is a book that takes children through the sounds that life makes, especially when getting messy. The boy in the book jumps through puddles, paints, plays in the fish bowl, and drinks juice, all while hearing the sounds that these activities make. This book would be incredible for a baby or toddler learning the world around them, and experiencing the sounds that activities make before they actually engage in them.
This book would be appropriate for babies and toddlers. Toddlers, especially, would find the sounds funny and engage well. The pictures are important in this book too, and a toddler would be better able to look and focus on the pictures and the sounds that each activity makes. Incredible illustrations make this book a great addition to any home or classroom library.
Thank you to the author, illustrator, publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars!
The sounds written are quite silly, and I'm sure young kids will love saying them out loud. Swish Slosh doesn't just use generic sounds too, which was very cool to see. Furthermore, this book will help kids be aware of their surroundings, as well as help them navigate the wonderful sounds around them! My only complaint is that it would have been nice if at the end of the book, they said something like "look at all the sounds around us", or anything to wrap up the book and showcase a message. Nevertheless, the art was stunning! I adored it. Overall, if you're looking for a simple and vibrant picture book to read to kids, then I highly recommend Swish Slosh!
