A fantastic collection of short stories, I found myself wishing more than a couple were turned into full length novels as I wanted to learn more about the characters and their world. Knights, dragons, talking animals, the wild west, there should be something for everyone here.
This collection of short stories varied from knights and dragons, to some wild west stories with a supernatural element, and one story about talking animals, all very well written and easy to read.
The One-Eyed Jack stories (the Western stories) were my favourite, they had a Jonah Hex feel to them, I would love to see more of these.
The three Swords of Eire stories (3 of the knights stories) were good, but there was a few gaps in time between some of the stories, leaving me to wonder what happened to that guy. But I could easily see them combined and expanded into a series.
I didn’t like ‘The Saga of the Turtle Knight’ story, it was the talking animals, I just could not get into this one, so much so I ended up skipping the end altogether, all the other stories were very good though.
Overall it was good, and I would read more books from Brian Hopkins, and I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good knight tale, or a good western with some supernatural elements.
*Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.*
Another great collection from Brian Hopkins. The first two stories, Road's End and Ivory in the Blood, were great. I really enjoyed, and would like to see them expanded into novels. But definitely work as stories. The One-Eyed Jack stories were also great, and would like to see more of these. Finally, the three Swords of Eire stories could definitly be combined and exanded into a novel. Once again, reminded of how much I like Brian Hopkins stories. #RoadsEndandOtherFantasies #NetGalley
I liked this even though fantasy is not my favorite genre, but I also like short stories. Hopkins is an experienced author so he knows how to create good stories.
Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!
I think my favourite story is the dragon slayer and dragon tale, not for the heroic actions or any such nonsense but the conversation between the pair, I would buy a book which was just the dragon telling the slayer some unpalatable truths! This book is a mixture of good, very good and ok, the only ok Tales probably more about my tastes than he good the author actually is, thanks for letting me read this Netgalley, I enjoyed it a lot
