I'd not read The Chosen and the Beautiful so this Book Club kit just came off redundant for me and I'd not realised going in.

I really enjoyed this book club kit! I particularly enjoyed the cocktail recipes and the paper crafts for the engagement. The questions helped promote discussion during times when no one had anything to say and I really enjoyed the story! I've recommended it to a few friends.

Nghi Vo is one of my favorite authors now. I truly enjoyed reading The Chosen and the Beautiful. I would recommend reading this book along with a group and use this Book Club Kit. I highly recommend reading any book by Nghi Vo.

Reading this book felt like watching a movie. This story is absolutely beautiful.

As a huge fan of Fitzgerald, I had to to request this one.

The only reason why I'm not rating this book 5 stars is mainly because it left me wanting more. It felt like some things could've been added to the story, it left me hanging a little bit. In the beginning, it felt a little bit harder to get into, but then, it's impossible to put down.

I definitely recommend it, fans of Gatsby will be pleased for sure!

With “The Chosen and the Beautiful”, Nghi Vo retells F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved classic, “The Great Gatsby”, the famous Jazz Age tale of excess, class, and the American Dream.

The protagonist in “The Chosen and the Beautiful” is Jordan Baker, Daisy Buchanan’s savvy golfer friend. Jordan is also a queer, Vietnamese orphan. There is also witchcraft, necromancy, and magic afoot.

Nghi Vo highlight’s the era’s sexism, racism, and class exploitation.

A huge thanks to NetGalley for an advanced look at the Book Club Kit for “The Chosen and the Beautiful”. It should be of great assistance to book clubs and for readers who wish to ascertain whether they would enjoy reading the whole books book.

The book didn't work for me and I found it disappointing overall. At first, I found the premise interesting since I thought it would be a retelling of the great gatsby but as it turns out it's essentially the same story from a different point of view. Those who do not like the original story won't enjoy this one either.

Personally, it was too slow for me, The pacing could have been better. One thing I loved was the queer representation that the book provided. It made for an interesting change in the original plot. Another upside was the lyrical language which I found to be beautiful.

Such a fun book club kit!
It includes a few cocktail ideas inspired by the book. It also has amazing and reflexive questions to guide the book club conversation.

This is not a copy of the book as I thought it was, so it was not very useful to me but I am sure it will be to those who have been able to get there hands on it.

Book Club Kit: The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo is a fun addition once you've read The Chosen and the Beautiful to further engage in the story. This kit includes discussion questions to consider with a book club or individually, a conversation with the author, and suggested reading for after the novel. This is the perfect kit to enhance the reader's overall experience.

I found this super helpful after I finished the novel.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This immensely helped me reading the book The Chosen and the Beautiful, as I continued reading I frequently came back to this kit to summarize my opinions or feelings on the characters and the story. Not currently in any book club but I would like to share my thoughts on this on social media and start some virtual book club. Wonderful book and the wonderful kit!

This book kit only useful only if you already read The Chosen and the Beautiful (the book), which sadly I haven't read yet.

I am generally sceptical of book club kits because for some reason, I imagine that they will veer my reading experience to the positive, even when I get to them after I read the book. But here, I think,, this kit convinced me to read the book better than any review has.

"But while Asian goods and cultural exports were welcome, the presence of Asian people was still always questioned."
This is the part of this book club kit that made me pay extra attention. As an expatriate of colour living in a western country, I fully felt this on some level.

This kit doesn't just contain notes and further reading suggestions, it contains questions that help you interpret the book without telling you how to do so, and those that invite you to share your personal lived experiences. There is a section on the history of paper-cutting that encourages you to DIY simple designs for your own space, and directions to create some of the cocktails mentioned in the book for an augmented reading experience.

Even if you have never and do not plan to read fiction, I would suggest that you spend some time with this kit to learn about the historical context that surrounds the premise of this book. As a person of colour, it's easy to think I know everything about discrimination, but this kit made me realise, again, that there's always so much more to this story. And this kit contained a section that helped me learn just that.

This book club kit is an excellent addition to the book. Having questions, concepts to discuss, and activities all preplanned for you makes the reading process a lot more fun. Also for those who do not like excess o the back of the book this is a perfect idea as an add on.

This book club guide includes thoughtful discussion questions, history about Asian Americans during the Jazz Age and paper cutting, cocktail (and mocktail) recipes, and some paper cutting templates.

This feels like a great variety of activities to meet the needs of any book club, and is one of the more thorough book club guides I've read.

Exactly what.I was looking for.

The Bookclub kit was really helpful to further comprehend the history and round out the story. I also really enjoyed the cocktail menu, the history of papercutting. Overall, this will help book clubs further their comprehension.
3.5/5 stars (rounded up)
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this eARC

I thought this book club kit was delightful. I don't think I've ever seen a kit like this before, but I could easily see this being a concept that takes off. I imagine a monthly or quarterly ladies bookclub that is equal parts socializing and love of reading. (Of course, there is no gender or other requirements. I'm just imagining what I'd enjoy.)

This kit includes 13 really thoughtful, engaging discussion questions. There is an essay on Asian Americans in the Jazz Age and one on the History of Papercutting. There are also recommended reading lists for both related fiction and nonfiction. Finally, just for funsies, there are several cocktail recipes and instructions for a papercutting craft.

All in all, exactly as advertised and perfect for planning an engaging and fun book club meeting. Who doesn't want to sip cocktails while doing a craft and discussing questions? Then go home with a list of further recommended reading?
