An excellent book on doodling. It is filled with illustrations separated into various categories. There are pages of animals and sea creatures, leaves and flowers, holiday doodles and everyday objects. This a fun book that gives you lots of practice and doodling ideas. I highly recommend it!
This was a fun book to read! It's mostly for beginners. The text was repetitive at some points. The eARC had some errors: the text was cut and mixed with the drawings. All in all, it's a good way to start loosening one's creativity and pick up some tips.
This is fun, cute and really allows anyone to explore their creativity. The illustrations are fairly easy to follow, plus I imagine it'd be so cool to color all of the drawings afterwards. This would make a great gift for kids and adults alike, Highly recommend!
I love drawing and doodling books so I've read many dozens of them. This one doesn't particularly stand out from the others but it's a nice one. The doodles are in black and white and they're the standard cutesy things -- watering cans, teapots, chunky one piece swimsuits, lounging cats, and so on. They will work nicely in a bullet journal or on a handmade card. Readers are shown how to use shapes and then morph them into the approximate object shape before refining them, and are advised to draw in pencil first and then go over with a black fine tip marker and erase the lines. I'm much more a fan of drawing free form with ink but beginners especially can be quite successful with this method.
Three stars for me -- liked it. I'm not sure it's worth the $14.99 price point for the paperback, however.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review. It cut off abruptly so I don't know if additional material that I missed would have increased my rating.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic sample to read and review.
This is a sample of the book; not the complete book due to file size. I loved it. The drawings are super cute! They include simple illustrated instructions using basic shapes that make it easy to follow. There are designs for the whole year as well. I have already pre-ordered my physical copy!
What an awesome book for both kids and adults! The layout is clean and easy to follow. The drawings range from super easy to master to much harder and all are fun for any art ability level. Perfect to practice drawing and motor skills with younger kids. If you are learning to sketch and want to really hone your skills or just want to know how to create a few doodles for your journal, this book is for you!
What a truly fantastic book, I will definitely be purchasing the paper copy.
I always struggled with drawing and I find this a good way to relax and unwind especially at the moment
Get the paper copy, I absolutely loved this book but the ebook is weird to work with when drawing on paper.
A great source for a beginner like me, I'm a fan of the "library" of starter ideas.
I really like this book - literally gives step by step drawings for you to copy just about anything at all.
I am awful at drawing and my daughter always asks me to draw things and I hVe no idea where to start, but hopefully with this I will stand some chance of being to draw something that actually resembles what it's supposed to be!
The real treasures of this book can be found in the second part where you will find lots of cute frames and drawings that give you space to write or make lists in them. You can replicate or copy or trace them and bring your journal up to a whole new level. Love them!
The first part would be great if you are just starting out and want an easy reference book to copy from. There are step by step instructions for most of the examples given.
Definitely a useful book for those just starting out on journaling and want to spruce up their pages with drawings or paintings, or for anyone just wanting to add cuteness to their journal.
I was sent an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fantastic book to start your journey with doodling. Very informative and guided process. So much fun.
A fun new thing I will learn this quarantine
Doodle Days is a fun and engaging tutorial guide for doodles and how-to tips by Jane Maday. Due out 23rd June from Penguin Random House on their North Light Books imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
This is a beginner accessible, cute, and useful guide to doodling and page set-ups for journaling with tons of step by step line drawn tutorials which are easy to follow. The eARC provided for review contained a preview of approximately 40% of the finished release material, but the quality was very good throughout. The doodles cover a large number of subjects from florals to animals, foods, seasonal items and objects. In addition, the author has added chapters on journal page setups, adding text to drawings, and other how-to tutorials.
Very informal and cute doodles will appeal to a wide audience and many of them would be welcome in drawing sessions with small humans; thus will find use for child minders, parents, educators, and others who spend time with kids.
Five stars (assuming that the overall quality holds true to the same given in the review copy provided).
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
I just got back into journaling and this is such a cute and useful doodling guide. I’m far from artistic, but the easy illustrations definitely help add a little something extra to your journal. I used to draw a lot in the past, and this doodle guide has reminded me why I loved drawing cute little images in the first place. Such a great way to express yourself and to just relax and unwind. Thanks to Netgalley and penguin random house for a review copy in exchange for a fair review.
Doodle Days is an inspiring and enticing beginner doodle or drawing book. It is a brilliant place for children, journallers, or the artistically challenged to dip in and have a go. It is simple to follow and easy to produce something really satisfying very quickly. The book is filled with a variety of drawings and step by step instructions, you really can't go wrong.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a good starter guide, offering step by step instructions on how to do simple illustrations on all sort of items, very good for someone like myself who enjoys drawing in my bullet journal. Also, I would get this for a kid as well.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Doodle Days.
I used to draw a lot when I was younger and recently I've been thinking about pursuing that creative hobby again.
Doodle Days is ideal for anyone who doodles for fun, wants to doodle for fun or get back to doodling. This is great for beginners or anyone who doesn't know what doodling is but wants to give it a try.
Unfortunately, I only got to review a portion of the book through Kindle but from what I saw, the doodles are fun and not difficult to try on your own. The examples feature the usual household items, animals like dogs and cats, and food.
I'll definitely check out the hard copy when it comes out because I'm curious to see what the rest of the pages look like.
Normally my doodles include hearts, flowers and my name in cursive since I can't really draw unless I'm tracing. In this book there are very simple and useful steps from items like patries, witch cauldrons, animals and festive doodles. At the beginning of the book, different tools are explained and also how to get started. I enjoyed this a lot!
Often when I am in a class or talking on the phone I find myself doodling. Forever, it seems I have drawn faces, coffee cups and flowers. I am getting bored with these so was very excited to see this book. It is full of ideas about making those fun little pictures.
Short sections include everything from how to use the book to tools and materials, and lines and shapes. By the end of this sample, I wanted the full book and was full of ideas. I am very eager to get started.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this adorable book. All opinions are my own.
