Renewed For Murder is the 6th book in Victoria Gilbert's Blue Ridge Library Mystery series and the cozy mystery series continues to be enjoyable. Librarian Amy Webber Muir and her new husband Richard are busy settling into married life and getting ready for Richard's latest project, a folk tales and music festival. Part of the festival includes past school choir winners including the local high school choir and a neighboring town group who tied for the finals 50 years ago. Amy's Aunt Lydia and Lydia's friends Zelda and Walt knew many of the people who showed up for the choir reunion. While Amy is doing some research at the library, she uncovers some interesting information on some events that took place the year of the choir competition. Is any of it related? When Lydia gets a call from Zelda about finding a body in her yard, things get complicated and Zelda becomes the prime suspect. . Will Amy and her friends sort through the secrets and figure it all out? This is an enjoyable cozy mystery. I like most of the regular characters but a couple were less likable in this book and the clues took longer to come together. Amy is a strong character but has common sense for the most part. Family is an important part of the book. The mystery is pretty good. #NetGalley #ReservedForMurder #CrookedLaneBooks
The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't realise that there's 5 other novels prior to this but this doesn't hinder my experience that much. Might go through my bookstores to find the rest though! A easy cozy mystery novel, but just found the motive to be on a weaker side? (A lil weird but it's fine)
Renewed for Murder by Victoria Gilbert is the 6th book in the Blue Ridge Library Mystery series, and a enjoyable addition to this popular series. I love the author's well crafted writing and this series is one of my favorites.
Amy Webber has been married to Richard and remains the the library director in Taylorsford, Virginia. Richard has a dance partner Zelda and when a body is found in her back yard she is suspect number one. Amy is enlisted to investigate as her skills have helped her solve murders in the past. Soon suspects abound and red herrings as Amy draws closer to solving this case with the help of her husband and friends.
A fun mystery with a pleasing sleuth and all the returning charcters readers enjoy. A nice addition to this series. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own .
Renewed for Murder by Victoria Gilbert is the 6th book in the Blue Ridge Library Mystery series, and another enjoyable read. Amy Webber is recently married to Richard Muir, and the library director in Taylorsford, Virginia. When Amy's aunt Lydia's best friend is accused of murder, Amy begins sleuthing with her side kicks. Once I started this book I could not stop reading it. It was a quick read that kept me guessing. I look forward to the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book/series for all cozy mystery book lovers, you will not be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is one of my favorite Cozy Mystery series that I have had the pleasure of reading. Victoria makes you fall in love with the characters, flaws and all. I loved diving into Zelda's past and seeing how she was when she was in high school. One of the things that Gilbert does so well is writing a duel timeline or diving into the past to help figure out the mystery in the present. I highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed visiting with these characters again and learning more about them. The mystery was great with many twists and it kept me guessing. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment.
Many thanks to Crooked Lane Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
August in Taylorsford, Virginia finds library director Amy Webber and her new husband, dancer Richard Muir, settling into married life--and a new project. Richard and his dance partner, Karla, are choreographing a suite based on folk music and folk tales, while Amy scours the library's resources to supply background information on the dance's source material. But then an unknown woman's body turns up in Zelda Shoemaker's backyard gazebo. Chief Deputy Brad Tucker puts Zelda at the top of his suspect list, thanks to a blackmail letter he finds in the dead woman's pocket. Zelda's best friend, Amy's aunt Lydia Talbot, begs Amy to use her research skills to clear Zelda's name. But the task is confounded by Zelda's very out-of-character refusal to reveal why the victim might have blackmailed her. Complicating matters further, Amy unearths records of a long-ago tragedy that casts doubt on Zelda's innocence. She enlists Richard, Aunt Lydia, art dealer Kurt Kendrick, Mayor Sunny Fields, and sundry other quirky townsfolk in a quest to exonerate Zelda.
This is the sixth in a great series, and I have enjoyed them all. The author continues to mature and develop all the characters as we find out a little more about the main characters with each installment. Added to this is the beginning Amy's and Richard's marriage and how it will play into the story. I highly recommend this series. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher to be able to read this book.
First, thank you to NetGalley for providing me a copy of the book in exchange for a review. I didn't know this was Book 6 when I asked for it, but at no point did I feel like I missed out on something because of that.
So, this book was great. The characters were lovable and the writer did a good job of making sure I had just enough insights from earlier books in the series and that I didn't miss anything in terms of the dynamics among the characters. It's just, as I finish this book, it wasn't altogether that memorable or great of a mystery. The mystery was slow burn, so slow burn that it was just character development till the end of the book when the whole motive and the evil person emerged. Like once everything emerged, it seemed like a very flimsy motive. I've been reading a lot of cozy mysteries these days because they are light and fun, and within the ones I've read, this one was okay. I liked Amy as a character and so I will read the other books in the series. This wasn't my favourite mystery so to speak. It was definitely a chill read for sure. And the main character is interesting. But maybe I feel this way because this is Book 6 in the series. I didn't know it was Book 6 till I started tracking it on Goodreads. And perhaps maybe that's why all the characters didn't grow on me as much.
Once again, an event in the past triggers a murder in the present. Amy investigates a series of events from the 1970's that involved the current suspects in a murder in her hometown. I liked that the events and people involved were easier to keep track of than in a couple of the previous books in this series. I always enjoy these books; some are easier to follow than others. The characters are likable , and I like that Amy and Richard are now married. I highly recommend this book to those who like mysteries and librarians.
I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Here we are a few months post wedding, and Amy and Richard are still enjoying newlywed bliss. There’s an arts festival in town that Richard has been preparing for, with a dance set to a poem by a local poet, and various other activities. Amidst all this, a woman is found murdered in Zelda’s garden. Readers will remember Zelda as one of Amy’s aunt’s best friends. Zelda did know the murdered woman, as they sang in competing choirs over fifty years ago. Amy is on the case to find out why this woman was murdered there and who would want to set Zelda up.
Renewed for Murder has the usual mix of historical research and current suspense as Amy receives threats to keep her nose out of this business. The mystery has a nice number of surprises, and relying on others’ historical memories presents some challenges. Series readers will really enjoy the latest installment and it would work nicely for readers looking for a standalone cozy.
A great series, the author keeps it interesting with the twists and turns, and it's an engaging read with a well done cast of characters that keep me coming back for more.
There are some cozies that focus almost exclusively on the mystery; characters (beyond the 2 - 3 family / friends) that show up (beyond the the 2 or 3 family members or friends) rarely appear in future books. Then there are some that the mystery is almost secondary - the book is all about the recurring characters. This book was a nice blend of the two - there were details about recurring characters, but also a mystery.
There were several details about this book that I really enjoyed. I liked the fact that the characters had a history (illustrated in previous books) but also were looking towards the future. I like that while the protagonist ended up in trouble at the end of the book, it wasn’t because she was doing something outrageously stupid. The killer’s motive was a little unbelievable, but that was about the only flaw in the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed it - highly recommended.
At this time when I'm reading a lot of Cozy Mysteries, Victoria Gilbert remains one of my favorite authors, perhaps because the amateur detective is a librarian, plus Richard never disappoints me either. After so many books, it feels like visiting friends again and I wouldn't mind if in the next one, Kurt had a happy ending too.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
I think this book is okay. It has some interesting moments. The characters are fine. I just had some trouble getting into it. I was definitely surprised by who the killer was. #RenewedforMurder #NetGalley
This is the sixth book in the Blue Ridge Library Mystery series. I had previously read and enjoyed another cozy mystery series by this author so I was eager to read this one. I devoured all 6 books in just a matter of days! This is a very talented author, she is descriptive and has such interesting mysteries to solve. I can’t wait for her next books!
Amy Muir, nee Webber, is enjoying married life in Taylorsford, Virginia very much, thank you. New husband Richard, is busy choreographing a piece based on folk tales which, as director of the local library, Amy is well positioned to research for him should help be needed. As summer moves into fall, life is good until Amy's Aunt Lydia hears from an upset best friend, Zelda Shoemaker; there is a dead body in her garden!
Amy is eager to help local Chief Deputy Brad Tucker with his investigations whenever she can. So, with Richard, Aunt Lydia, and best friend Sunny, she is determined to clear Zelda's name as quickly as she possible can. Unfortunately there are secrets being kept, most noticeably by Zelda herself, and quite a lot of what Amy discovers seem to hinder rather than help her case.
This is the sixth book in the Blue Ridge Library mystery series but the first I have read. It did take a while to understand the different relationships and friendships. With secrets being kept right from the start there is a lot to think about throughout and I definitely like that. I think I would have enjoyed the experience more if I had started at the series beginning but that's down to me entirely.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. If you have enjoyed this series so far I think this is a must read, but not necessarily first read.
Renewed for Murder is book #6 in the Blue Ridge Library Mysteries series. Small town librarian Amy Webber, who is newly married, gets involved in solving another mystery when an old high school feud from many years ago is dredged up - resulting in murder.
I wanted to read this novel because I enjoy this mystery series. The author does such a good job at capturing small town life and interesting characters.
I found the long ago mystery very interesting, especially when Amy worked with old yearbooks and archival materials to solve the crime. I work with ephemera and old books and find this type of detecting especially compelling.
I enjoyed Amy and Richard's relationship, their lovable and mischievous cats, and their friends who return each book.
The mystery aspect of the novel was well done and it kept me guessing -- I figured the solution about the same time that Amy did.
I recommend this mystery and the series for fans of cozy mysteries, and especially for anyone who enjoys library settings and small town life.
Renewed for Murder is the 6th book in the series A Blue Ridge Library Mystery by Victoria Gilbert, where Amy and Richard are enjoying being a married couple. Amateur sleuth Amy Webber (Muir) finds a woman dead in Zelda Shoemaker's backyard gazebo after her Aunt Lydia gets a frantic call from Zelda. Who is this woman? Who killed her? Zelda becomes the prime suspect. It gets even worse when Zelda reveals that she has a secret and was being blackmailed because of it.
With lots of twist and turns this book was wonderful. I recommend that you buy the complete series to read. Thanks to NetGalley I was able to enjoy this book.
Amy, a small town Virginia librarian, is back for a terrific 6th installment in the Blue Ridge Library cozy mystery series. Once again, the excellent supporting cast aids in her sleuthing and, this time, the mystery revolves around the high school related events from 50 years earlier, involving Zelda, Lydia, and other older locals. I do love a good mystery that is based on past events.
Fans of cozies should enjoy this delightful book and series. Long may this series run.
Highly recommended!!
Renewed for Murder is the sixth title in Victoria Gilbert's Blue Ridge Library series. Librarian Amy Webber Muir and her handsome dancer husband Richard are settling in to married life. Amy is trying to find background information for Richard and his partner Karla as they try to choreograph a dance suite to folk music and tales. A concert choir reunion brings many people back to Taylorsford to sing again. When one of the visiting singers is found murdered in Zelda's backyard, holding an incriminating note, Amy and Richard are determined to clear their friend and then continue the dance.
Multiple suspects, Zelda's reluctance to help clear herself, and a suspicious deadly accident from Lydia and Zelda's high school days complicate their sleuthing.
Well written continuation of this series, with likable and sometimes complex characters who enhance the storyline. I received this arc from NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for an honest review. Looking forward to #7. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
