Who knew there was so much to know about pigs! Well there is and honestly, it's not to be snorted at (HAD TO!). Pigology is packed full of interesting facts, some of them obscure, some of them more common. Every inch of the pig (in it's many species around the world) is covered with anecdotes about how they feature in different cultures, scientific explorations of the animal and even a bit of history too! A beautifully presented book that will definitely teach you a few things about pigs!

"There are a billion domesticated pigs on planet Earth...Eurasia has the wild boar, which is the ancestor of all domesticated pigs." In "Pigology: The Ultimate Encyclopedia" by Daisy Bird with illustrations by Camilla Pintonato, young readers can learn all about pigs in engaging, easy to understand terms. Adults will be captivated as well when perusing this non-fiction read.

Some Pig Facts:

-Pigs have monocular vision. Using each eye separately makes for a wider field of vision from left to right. This helps keep them safe from predators.

-Pigs are resistant to snake venom.

-Pigs can swim. "Today, on the uninhabited island of Major Cay in the Bahamas, there is a small herd of wild pigs that regularly go swimming...They have become a popular tourist attraction."

-"The most amazing thing about a pig's anatomy is its snout...pigs have been put to work detecting land mines and illegal drugs."

Did you know that King Arthur had a pig? Where did the idea of the piggy bank come from? This short, well written encyclopedia of the pig is filled with an amazing wealth of factual data. It would be a welcome addition to any school or home library. Highly recommended!
