A story that will creep under your skin and have you guessing with every chapter just how Evie disappeared and will she really appear to seek revenge. Or will Lincoln be the instrument of death? This is not a book to read with the lights off.
Sadly this was a dnf for me. I just found I was lost by the plot. Thank you got this arc in exchange for my honest review
Jane and TJ reluctantly return for their school reunion, bringing back unhappy memories for both. And when they meet Lincoln again, the horror of the disappearance of Evie 20 years comes back. Will they be able to discover what actually happened all those years ago?
The Thicket is a gripping story of two friends battling against the horrors of their childhood. A thriller with supernatural elements that keep you guessing from one twist and turn to the next. There were times when it got a little confusing, but overall an enjoyable read.
Sadly I couldn´'t get into the book. After multiple tries starting over and this much time later I feel it's impossible to leave a review on any retailer.
This is a heart-pounding novel that will captivate readers from start to finish. The author skillfully crafts a suspenseful narrative filled with unexpected twists and turns, ensuring an enthralling reading experience.
The story introduces readers to a diverse cast of characters, each with their own motivations and secrets. As the plot unfolds, their lives become intertwined in a high-stakes game of danger and deceit. The author expertly maintains a sense of suspense throughout the book, keeping readers guessing and eagerly turning the pages to uncover the truth.
One of the book's greatest strengths lies in its ability to create a palpable atmosphere of tension and unease. The author's vivid descriptions and attention to detail transport readers into the world of the story, making them feel as if they are right alongside the characters, experiencing the thrilling events firsthand.
She Never Left is a genre crossing novel with psychological thriller and sci fi aspects.
This book has a very unique plot and the way the story is told between the past and present works very well. The chapters alternated between being a slow burner and fast and twisty which builds up the tension and suspense.
This book wasn’t what I expected at all and for something so completely different to my usual reads, I did enjoy it and found the ending a surprise.
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
I did not love this book. The description of it: Stranger Things meets Sharper Objects? YES PLEASE. Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to the hype.
TJ and Jane are cousins and writing partners of a sort (TJ is the writer, Jane is the agent) and they decide to go back to their hometown for their high school reunion. Naturally, a young woman disappeared in The Thicket when they were in high school and Jane's hoping that returning to their small town will jar a story out of TJ. They are followed/accompanied by Lincoln, a super creep who is a total stalker yet who Jane refuses to firmly reject. TJ and Jane are good characters, until you realize that they're supposed to be in their thirties and are acting much less mature than that.
The description of this book and what the book actually is are not well connected. This is much more of a sci-fi/supernatural book than a thriller, with The Thicket playing a central role.
I enjoyed the wonderful use of descriptive language which allowed me to become fully immersed in the atmosphere of the book. Unfortunately, I personally found the story slow and unintriguing. I am sure others would enjoy, but for me, it became difficult to keep reading as I just didn't feel gripped.
Brilliant book. Could not put it down. A real page turner. Wonderfully written and scenes were set perfectly
I did try to get through this but unfortunately I couldn't finish it. It was a DNF at 11%. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the approval.
The synopsis drew me in, but I struggled with the story. I started to read it a few times. It’s a not for me but others I am sure will love it.
This was an awesome read. Fast-paced but still well developed. Lots of twists and turns! Would recommend to friends.
Thrilling and an absolutely riveting read. A page-turner that readers of this genre will enjoy well.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Harper Collins UK and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
What a page turner! Nonstop thrills.
This book had so much potential for me but then when it went all sci fi it lost me. I felt like I was losing attention. The best way to describe it was I felt no connection with the characters so therefore I couldnt connect to the book.
This is one of the creepiest thrillers I've read in a long time! Vacillating between past and present, it reveals the relationship between Jane and her cousin TJ as they navigate life as teens and then young adults. Like most young people, there is a place they go to party and drink called The Thicket, and believe me...you don't want to experiment there as a fungus grows wild that can suffocate and literally encase a body. The girls also love the experience of ingesting psilocybin, "magic mushrooms" as they enjoy the feeling of being "outside" themselves. But what is reality and what is deception? When a young girl disappears and classmate, Lincoln begins stalking Jane, she isn't sure what to do. My best advice is just go into it blind--and maybe don't read late at night. And maybe avoid mushrooms for a while...!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for a copy of this book to review. This did not affect my rating.
This book is definitely more Sci-Fi than Thriller which is not my thing, so I need to start there. This wasn't what I was expecting when I read the synopsis, but that may just be me.
Jane and TJ and cousins and friends. These ladies grew up, ditched their hometown of Ketchum and never looked back until they decide to come back and attend their class reunion. The story revolves around the woods in town that seem to be murdering people, including TJ's childhood crush, Evie. Lincoln will be in ton as well and he has a huge obsession with Jane and was with the girls when Evie was murdered by the woods.
The story alternates between the past and present, so anyone who doesn't like that, just giving a heads up.
This book was slow and just did not hold my attention at all. It truly just wasn't for. me. I will say the descriptions were great at time as I could visualize the woods. but other than that I honestly wondered what I was reading and why I was reading it.
I’ll be honest I struggled a bit with this book, and restarted it a couple of times. I did eventually persevere and complete it. Thank you however to the author and NetGalley for the ARC
This one really did draw me in with its captivating premise and spine tingling intro. I was hooked straight away. I have recommended it to friends, some have gone on to read the book
