This story had plenty of creepiness to it. I had to keep an open mind to some of the elements which were unrealistic. The plot was interesting and sci-fi fans will be intrigued.
Many thanks to Harper Collins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Unfortunately this book was not for me. Other readers may enjoy it more, but I could not get into it and ultimately did not finish it.
I really don't know where to start - the book makes no sense whatsoever and the only thing I can say about it is that a group of high school kids used to hang out in "The Thicket" even after one of them disappeared without trace one night.
Twenty years later, cousins Jane and TJ return to their hometown for a school reunion. One of the school friends, Lincoln is obsessed with Jane and has been stalking her for a few years and turns up wherever she goes now she is back home.
They eat some mushrooms from the Thicket which are hallucinogenic but there always seems to be more to them than just tripping out.
Absolutely no idea what the actual storyline of the book is
I tried to like this book but I just couldn't get into it. It's DNF for me.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the free ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This wasn’t what I expected and was not the book for me.
I don’t know what I was expecting but a sci fi thriller was not it. I tried and tried to stay connected and finish it but this is not the genre for me.
A ok read
Not one of the best
Certainly wouldn’t put me off reading more by this author
Thanks NetGalley
what a fabulous read I had a very hard time putting the book down.
Kept me on the end of my chair.
Can hardly wait for CM’s next book.
More a s I fi thriller. Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. Tried but failed. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an arc
Interesting but not really my cup of tea. Well written I just personally couldn’t get into the story. A friend goes missing in their childhood. They have since left for a big city to leave that all behind them. Now they return for a high school reunion which is bringing all the memories back and making them think that their friend may not have left after all. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The plot was full of poor choices, unnecessary details and wrong turns every possible time. It became to unrealistic for me which is disappointing since the premise was so promising
First of all, don't let my rating influence you.
TJ and Jane are coming back for the school reunion, this I gathered, after that.....I did not understand anything.
Thank you Netgalley for this book.
Intriguing read that keeps you guessing throughout the story! Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book a little slow, although it did pick up a little towards the end. Not too keen on the supernatural aspect. Still worth a read.
Whilst the story was interesting and researched well, this book just wasn’t for me. I got totally confused by the timelines and knowing what was real and what wasnt. I found out too scary to read at times and just wanted to get it finished. To be fair, it’s not my normal type of book and I thought I’d spread out a bit but it just wasn’t for me
Jane and her cousin TJ return to their hometown for a reunion, bringing Jane back into contact with old friends and her persistent stalker, and reliving memories of when they used to hang out at The Thicket, a strange area of woodland full of magic mushrooms.
This is a very strange thriller with horror elements, reminiscent in many ways of a Stephen King novel. I quite enjoyed it even though I absolutely haven't a clue what was going on, what was real and what was a trip, but I don't think it matters that much in the end - I enjoyed reading it regardless.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
3 for neutral. This book just was not foe me. I was so confused and finally gave up on trying to read. If able to finish at a later date, I’ll update my review.
Cousins and best friends TJ and Jane, haven’t been back to their home town for years but are drawn back by their High School reunion.
Told between 2 times lines the past and the present but also during a period of time where the main characters are under the influence of strong hallucinations, made this story disjointed and confusing.
I struggled to engage with the characters and storyline and unfortunately decided it wasn’t for me
That said there will definitely be the audience for this title and I am sure it will be enjoyed by many
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title
I have to say that I felt like I didn’t understand most of the book, at times I found myself completely lost and had no idea what was going on. I felt like the story had lots of potential but it didn’t go in the direction I would have expected. Due to this I found it quite slow going and difficult to read. Not for me.
I enjoyed parts of this psychological thriller but it was a bit too sci-fi for my liking. When I read the promotional blurb I was very interested in the book. I soon discovered it’s not my usual genre and I struggled at times to finish it. It’s not a bad book, just not for me. At times I couldn’t fathom what was fact and what was imagination/hallucinogenic effects of “magic” mushrooms.
Ooh this was a good one!
A eerie, dark and totally gripping psychological thriller with some Sci fi and horror thrown in too.
With some humour woven through as well this really ticked a lot of boxes for me.
I found it to be well researched and held a lot of accurate information on fungi, it's growth and its role.
I love the " stranger things" retro vibe it has and will certainly be seeking more material from this author in the future.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
