My first Katrina Diamond book. The title spoke to me, and I requested to review. Also it is the 7th book in a series. Not a cozy. (I saw candy corn and apple cider.)
This is a 3.4 for me. There is profanity. It was too long, and there were a couple sports where it dragged. So, I'm not rounding up. I liked the story and some of the characters. Without spoiling, I didn't like how seasoned detective Grey handled being told and her reaction when Adrian was trying to explain a ghastly trauma he experienced. It didn't feel realistic to me.
I can't see myself actively seeking the first six books in the series. I can visualize myself running into the books, remembering the story line and picking up another.
Thank you NetGalley for accepting my request to read and review.

A perfect name for a Kat Diamond book as she has many tricks up her sleeves and her books are always a treat to read.
I have read all of the Imogen Grey series and there is not one book that doesnβt have my mind turning throughout it and I always feel at points like my heart will jump out of my chest. Trick or Treat, the 7th book in this series was no different.
A brilliantly written novel that will tug on your heart strings, leave you with your jaw opened at times and leave you not so patiently waiting for the next book in the series!
If you havenβt read this series start with the first one and you will then binge the whole series!
Trick or Treat is the first book from the series and I thought it was interesting. I can usually pick up a book that is part of a series and easily understand what is happening but this was not one of them. So I definitely recommend starting from the beginning of the series.
The first part of the book was too slow for me but I did enjoy the second half a lot more. There were several characters that had me intrigued but the main one was Adrian.
Really enjoyed this book. First book I have read by Katerina Diamond but even though it was part of a series I felt it was good to read as a stand alone. It did take a little time to get into it but the back story was easy to follow.
Great storyline and mix of characters. When you thought you had it worked out another twist came.

If you enjoy detective novels here is an exciting one to get into. This is the 7th book in the DS Imogen Grey series and it did not disappoint. I will admit that this has been my first read of the series but because it was so interesting and kept me on my toes, I will be most definitely checking out the rest of the series in the near future!
The story was written great and within a quick pace. There were many times I was wondering who was in on the kidnapping scam and who could you trust within all the different characters.
I want to alert something here that there is a trigger warning of rape and torture so please know that before going in. It's not fully described or anything but the word is spoken about in the book.
A child is reported missing from a vandal breaking in to the house across the street. Detective Imogen Grey is on the case and when she asks the parents they think this must be a mistake! It canβt be their son! This starts the man hunt for the child and the life changing events for the vandal, family, and detective! Will they be able to find the child in time? This one kept me on my toes the entire time! It started off with a bang and really was a fantastic book! This ones part of a series but can be read as a standalone as well! Thank you so much netgalley & katerina diamond for this ebook copy in exchange for a review!
A kid named Marcus Carlyle is kidnapped on the eve of Halloween from his neighborhood. The kidnappers demand the ransom over call and warn his parents not to involve the police. However, there was one eye witness to the crime who already did inform the police. That is how, Imogen Grey and DC Webb sets in the mission to solve this mystery. But that is not all. Imogen's lover and ex-police officer Adrian Miles, is on his own mission in search of the men who wronged him. When these two cases gets tangled, will they be able to solve the case, before it is too late?
This book contains eighty eight chapters and will hook the reader till the very last page. Although this book is a part of series, it can be enjoyed as a stand alone. The stunning cover exciting title is totally appropriate with the twisty plot. There are a huge number of characters and sometimes it might be a bit difficult to remember them, but it doesn't affect the reading much. This book didn't let me sleep at night until I finished it. Excellent storytelling and unexpected plot twists are the main attractions of this book. The descriptions and procedures are as accurate as possible. The author did deal with a lot of sensitive topics like sexual assault, trauma and prisoner psychology, quite meticulously. The ending is satisfying although some mysteries remain unsolved. Recommended to all the thriller lovers out there. A perfect Halloween read!
I am a huge devotee of the Adrian Miles and Imogen Grey series by Katerina Diamond and I think this instalment could possibly be the one I have most enjoyed so far. Trick or Treat is dark, and a gritty police procedural with real characters and a punchy storyline. The author's writing is powerful, and the storyline encompasses ruthlessness and manipulation. Primarily, the focus is on the case of six-year-old Marcus, taken from outside his house on Halloween, but a great deal of attention is also centred on DS Miles and I loved that Imogen's loyalty to him was unwavering.
This was a captivating story albeit an emotional, heartrending one and the dangers and dramatic incidents were brilliantly executed with some really good twists throughout. The ending was a corker and totally unexpected. This super series continues to go from strength to strength and is up there with some of the most thrilling reads in the genre. If attention-grabbing, dark, and twisted crime thrillers are your thing, then Trick or Treat must not be missed! I longingly await book eight.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Avon Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
WOW, this book is full of twists and turns you think you know what's going to happen next but you really don't! I have read the previous Grey and Miles books and the latest installment does not disappoint. Katerina hits some sensitive points in her stories that I have never seen before in other authors work. I would recommend reading the series from the beginning to get the maximum effect from this book.
Those who have read the previous books in this excellent crime series will be delighted to be back once again as DS Imogen Grey comes up against her most challenging case yet.
Six year old Marcus Carlyle is kidnapped from outside his house on Halloween in a stealthy manoeuvre which leaves behind no evidence and apart from an anonymous tip off the only witness is someone who has his own very good reasons to keep quiet. The story hits the ground running and with tensions running high DS Grey and her investigative team have to keep their wits about them in order to to keep one step ahead of perpetrators who are expert at keeping their tracks covered. As the case progresses, more and more secrets are uncovered and one of them is particularly difficult for DS Grey to figure out and presents a difficult challenge both in her professional life and also in her relationship with her boyfriend, Adrian Miles.
There are strands from the previous book Truth or Die which have particular relevance to this story so for that reason I think this book sort of struggles as a standalone read. I was interested to see in which direction the author would move the story as Truth or Die was left with something of a cliffhanger finish, I wasn't disappointed but I can't say why as that would spoil the overall effect of this fascinating story.
The author doesn't shy away from difficult topics and for that reason this series continues to go from strength to strength especially as the relationship between Imogen Grey and Adrian Miles gets more complicated. I am already looking forward to see what happens next in Book #8.
Really enjoyed this book. Though strange name as Halloween was barely mentioned.
The plot was good. Fast paced. Never quite sure which way the book was going to go next. Mix of characters. The book was well written.
A fantastic read and great addition to the series! Cleverly crafted storyline that kept you guessing throughout. The author also dealt with the issue of men being sexually assaulted and the consequences of this in a compassionate and sensitive way. A great author and series and I canβt wait for the next one !!
Wow, justβ¦ wow . Last year Iβve read Woman in the water and loved that book so much and I couldnβt miss this chance to go back to a now familiar storyline and characters. Woman in the water deals with a not so typical scene where my heart broke and brought so much more attention to the subject.
Trick or treat is the next instalment in the series and the story continues with a new case, this time a kidnapping of a six year old little boy on Halloween. On another level, we get to see the struggles that Adrian is still facing after 14 months while also being on the hunt for his attacker. There are so many twists and turns in here! Like, with each chapter, thereβs a new clue and some mixed treats that will a come to life at the end of this rollercoaster ride.
Read it and you wonβt regret it!
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley.
I really enjoyed this book, I was hooked from the beginning and kept invested by the different character perspectives! There was certainly plenty of drama and crime involved and I loved the autumn vibe! I have a little bit of bias of one of the surnames used lots throughout the book (itβs mine) which I didnβt know was there until I opened the book!
An engaging 4 star thriller but can I please find out what happens next to the main characters! I also read this as a stand-alone as I havenβt read the many books in the serious before it which would have given a lot of context to plots that are mentioned in this book (I think) but I still thoroughly enjoyed it!
A gripping plot which kept me hooked throughout the book. Detective Imogen Grey and he team have the task of finding a kidnapped child. Imogen also has personal problems to contend with. I raced through this books as I was desperate to discover the ending. The intrigue increased with every page .and Iβm looking forward to reading the next book in this series
Perfect time of year to read Trick or Treatβ¦ this is the 7th book in the Imogen Grey series and another great readβ¦. A six year old boy is kidnapped from outside his house on Halloweenβ¦. His mother receives a phone call under no circumstances have they to involve the police and they will ring again to explain the ransomβ¦. While across the street, Jason Hitchin is thrashing his ex-girlfriendβs house when he witnesses the abduction, he anonymously reports it. DS Imogen Grey heads up the case and has a clear suspect in her mind albeit hard to proveβ¦.
Wowsers, although we knew fairly early on from Imogen who the front runner in her mind was, to follow the twists and turns along the way were shocking, its hard to elaborate without giving something away but this was fast paced page turner and definitely one for your TBR list.
I may have an unpopular opinion here, but I was not a good reader for this. It was too slow, the plot was meh, and was more about the detective than the missing boy.
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon/Harper Collins, and Katerina Diamond for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

My first Katerina Diamond and I absolutely loved it!
Season appropriate, gripping, twisty and page turning. I loved Adrian and Imogen as characters!
It was only once I'd finished Trick or Treat that I found out that it's part of a series, so I loved that it could be read as a standalone and I didn't have to question what was going on!
I enjoyed this book. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I finished it so hard to write a detailed review. I enjoyed this book. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I finished it so hard to write a detailed review.
