Trick or treat by Katherine Diamond.
When six-year-old Marcus is taken from outside his house on Halloween it shakes his quiet neighbourhood to the core.
Everyone was ready for a night of trick-or-treating. Now the unthinkable has happened.
TRUTH OR LIES?
As Detective Imogen Grey arrives to question Marcus’s parents, they tell her there has been a mistake. Their son is just fine.
But if that’s true, where is Marcus?
INNOCENT OR GUILTY?
Imogen becomes locked in a race against time to find the missing child and uncover the truth. Can she discover what’s happened to Marcus before it’s too late?
I really really enjoyed this book. Read this in one sitting. Great story and characters. I'm hoping that there is more to come 5*.

Trick or Treat is a hold your breath, turn the pages quickly and hope for the best for the little boy Marcus that was kidnapped from outside his home.

Thanks to a Jason a young lad who witnessed the crime, the police are on the scene.

Imogen Grey is still missing Adrian on the job but her and her team are racing to find Marcus.

Things go horribly wrong in dropping off the money and the clock is ticking down.

No spoilers here; just get your copy and get lost in a roller coaster of a read.

This series just continues to get better and better.

Can't wait to see what waits in the wings for Imogen and Adrian.

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK, Avon for a roller coaster read.

This was my first book by Katerina Diamond and it did not disappoint. I was immediately hooked before I got through chapter 1. The suspense in this book kept the intensity of each situation going. As a reader, I love a book that immediately draws you in and can keep you lost in it's pages. Trick or Treat was a book filled with so many situations and takes you through so many emotions. You feel so much for each individual character. As you try to find out who kidnaps Marcus, you are introduced to several different characters going through their own struggles, and you get to just "watch" it all play out. The last sentence of the book leaves you shocked and waiting for more. It is definitely one of my top books for the year.

Detective Imogen Grey has been called on to investigate a kidnapping. Six year old Marcus has been abducted outside his home on Halloween. The same night, teenager Jason has broken into his ex-girlfriend's home and witnesses the kidnapping. He didn't plan to be a part of a bigger crime but cannot, in good conscience, keep it to himself. Imogen's boyfriend, and ex cop, Adrian, has his own demons to deal with. Where is Marcus and how do all these stories entwine is the basis for this book.
Regardless of each book being separated, I personally do not like reading a series from the middle. I have major FOMO and hate not knowing even unimportant information. That said, this book truly didn't require you to know any background info, but I felt I would have connected with the main characters more if I had read the other books. That said, this was a really gripping story. There were some parts that were a bit unbelievable but overall I was engrossed. Adrian's situation was truly heart-rending, I really felt bad for him and was glad his situation was handled well. Overall it was a good read, especially if you like detective novels.

I have loved all of the books in this series but this one just wasn’t for me. The writing style seems to have really changed and I didn’t feel like I was connecting with the characters in the same way.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Avon Books for an advance copy of Trick or Treat, the seventh novel to feature DS Imogen Grey of the Exeter police and her partner, former DS Adrian Miles.

When 6 year old Marcus Carlyle is kidnapped It is an anonymous call that alerts DS Imogen Grey and not his parents. Soon Imogen finds herself in a race against time to find him.

It took me several attempts to get immersed in this novel as I kept putting it down after a few pages, because it didn’t draw me in. There were too many voices and it switched quickly between them and I didn’t like the focus on Adrian and his mental state after his attack in the previous novel. I don’t think a crime novel can do justice to the issues involved. Once it gets going, however, the action ramps up, switching between Imogen’s investigation and Adrian’s efforts to find his attacker and keep the attack secret from her. I didn’t find this latter very credible and thought the investigation much better.

The author has chosen to reveal the perpetrator of the kidnapping early in the novel, so it’s more of a case of finding Marcus than the perpetrator. I liked the cat and mouse aspect of the hunt and the hoops they have to jump through. I wasn’t so keen on the idea that Adrian’s quest is ongoing and will be further explored in the next novel.

Trick or Treat is a solid read.

This was a decent crime thriller but nothing that stands out. I didn’t know this is part of a series but reading as a stand-alone wasn’t a problem. A good read to pass the time.

Average and predictable. OK but not great. Good. Just good. I wish there was more but I feel like I have read this book a few dozen times before, at the very least.

OMG WHAT A READ!!!
I was so excited when her new book landed in my inbox. One of the best books I have read by this author. Hooked from the first to the last page and finally turned the last page at 2.am. I could not put this down. Sat on the edge of my seat and tapping my kindle like a demented wood pecker. Gripping, heartbraking, chilling and I literally have no nails left. Yes this book is that good. The Imogen Grey series is one of my favourites and I can't wait to read more from this very talented author.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

It would seem I've been missing a 'trick' not having read any of Katerina Diamond's books before as this one was an absolute 'treat' (yes, I went there! 😁).

There are several intense and rather gritty storylines within this book making it quite complex, however they were all tied together excellently! I felt like I got to know the characters really quite well given I was unaware of the previous six books and headed straight into this one as a standalone. So many highly likely characters! Normally I would never opt to read a book that is half way through a series but it was only after I finished I realised this was in fact installment number seven.

A dark and twisty thriller which held my attention from start to finish; I very much look forward to book number eight!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review 📖

A fast-paced and well-developed thriller with plenty of exciting revelations, Trick or Treat is a suspenseful instalment in an enjoyable detective series that I definitely want to read more of.

This is yet another detective series that I have jumped in with the most recent release rather than starting from the beginning. Sometimes you can slot right into a series, but I feel like I needed to get to know these characters better to really love this one.

The story is quite heavily focused on the characters so, having not read the other books, I couldn’t engage with it completely. While I liked Imogen and her relationship with Adrian, and Diamond deals with some sensitive topics in a brilliant way, I know that I would have been more emotionally gripped if I had spent more time with them beforehand.

Focusing more on police procedural rather than anything more psychological, putting a lot of the action in the background while focusing on the emotions and development, I wasn’t rushing to get through it but I did love the complex case. I’ve heard about crimes like this in real life so I found it really interesting to see how the story evolved.

The only thing that really let me down is that the book has nothing to do with Halloween, apart from the crime happening on that day, and had none of that atmosphere. But that’s only disappointed me because I was looking forward to a spooky read after seeing the cover and title, so my expectations were all wrong on that front.

But aside from that irrelevant criticism, I’m definitely looking forward to catching up with the rest of the books in this series and getting to know DS Imogen Grey more in-depth.

Simply brilliant!
This is my favourite book in this series so far.
Imogen visits a residential street where there has been a report of a young boy being kidnapped and taken away in the back of a van.
They visit the boys’ parents but at first they do not admit that their son is missing. Imogen soon gets the mother to admit that she has received a call telling her not to involve the Police, and further instructions will follow.
This is the start of a gripping race against time to find the boy but the team are really up against it.
There’s plenty of people hiding secrets and Imogen and the team do all they can to get to the truth.
Adrian is working for a security firm and is struggling with the huge secret he’s hiding from Imogen.
I really felt for Adrian in this book as it’s not that he doesn’t want to tell Imogen, as he can see he’s pushing her away, he simply can’t face up to what happened to him yet.
This is a brilliant crime thriller that I highly recommend.
The whole series is one to read but if you choose one book, then make it this one.
I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Coming into Halloween Trick or Treat was the perfect book to start the scary season off. Full of twists and turns, it was gripping from the first page. This was my first Katerina Diamond book so now I will make a pledge to go back to the start of the Detective Imogen Grey books to reacquaint myself with her.
What happened to Marcus on Halloween? Did he just disappear or are there bigger badder things at play here. Trick or Treat will drag you into its darkest depths and spit you out at the other side thinking what the hell did I just read. Defiantly one I would recommend. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for this early reading copy.

Trick or Treat is the 7th book in the Detective Imogen Grey series. After having read this one, it is best to start at the beginning of the series. There were many references to the past, but I think it would have been better to have read them all. There are many characters in this book. Lots of twists and turns before the reveal. But it ends with a cliff hanger, not my favorite ending.

A six year old boy is snatched from the street where he lives while out playing on is bicycle. A teenage boy witnesses the abduction and phones the police. When the police visit the child’s house his parents deny that their son has been taken. Adrian is having trouble dealing with what happened to him a year ago.

A young lad sees what appears to be the kidnapping of a young boy across the road but he isn’t supposed to be there so is reluctant to come forward. How did the kidnapper know the family’s movements? Can the police get there in time?
An interesting but quite complicated storyline

Sara and Peter are faced with a parents worse nightmare when their son, Marcus, is kidnapped right in front of their house on the day of trick or treat.

I was a little nervous about this book after noticing that it is the newest addition in a series. However I feel it is good as a stand alone. Reading the previous books may have helped build a few of the side stories within this book but I think it all worked out nicely. I loved how there was always some twist that you didn’t see coming until it happened. This was a great mystery for spooky season!

Admittedly I have not read any others in the DS Imogen Grey series but I can say that Trick or Treat can be read without the need to. I'm eager, however, to read the others. I enjoyed this fast paced police procedural mystery. It had me intrigued early on and the author kept me interested throughout, with a good and believable plot, complete with a few twists here there. Her characters are relatable and credible. I can definitely recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an ARC of this book to read and review.

I enjoyed this book. I realize after starting it that it is book 6 so I'm sure that's why I feel that the rating is a bit low. The writing and dialogue are a bit stale and the plotting is very tropey. However, I enjoyed the twists and honestly did not predict many of them. I also thought that this book handled sexual assault decently. Those scenes could have been rewritten to be more sensitive to the issue, but still pretty well done and not as glossed over as I thought it would be.
