“I see you men have heard of my fiancé”
“I’ve never heard a woman with a mouth on her like yours”
“Sweetheart, any men who counts making love to his wife as a chore isn’t worth the ink on the marriage license”
This book was so good I feel like screaming!!!!
Honestly amazing … a forced proximity trope with enemies to lovers, the banter, the tension, the attraction it was just so good!!!!
I felt in love from the very first moment the way the two main character talk and interact with each other was really good to read, very entertaining and funny!!!
I see their own personality seems to be one balancing the other and I honestly really enjoyed every minute of reading this book!!!!!
There was even a bit of mystery, a bit of action in the middle of this crazy, peaceful and calm town that Gray stumbles upon that just gives you that atmosphere of serenity that breaks right when he meets Mercy!!!!
It was really good really every second of it and the spies made it even better!!!!
I’m so glad I had chance to read this one, that I had the chance to read the second one (out very soon) and I can’t wait to read something else from this gunslinger series!!!!!
“You’re going to be the death of me, woman … But what a way to go”
“You’re kind of cute when you’re lecturing me”
“I always have the urge to stay up all night with you”
“She captivated him. Mesmerised him”

I stepped away from my usual genre with this one. Contemporary romance is my go to, but this one sounded good, so I decided to give it a try. Maybe I'm just not a fan of historical romances. I was expecting Gray to be more of a rough and tumble guy, but he was more lazy and always looking for a nap. The whole not bathing thing wasn't funny either, but I guess that's just me. Mercy was okay for the most part, but I just couldn't buy their romance. It was more like they agreed to be together, and that's where they stayed. I never got the transition from relationship of convenience to real relationship. The writing itself wasn't bad, but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

I devoured this book in less than two days. Grumpy cowboy who wants to retire from killing meets a spitfire woman who's only trying to keep her land in a small town? Sign me tf up! I loved the small town feel and the character building and flaws. There's one character, the mayor, who is my favorite and if you read this book, she'll be your fave too! The main couple of course were fabulous, complex people and I loved seeing their growth and their devotion spread slowly into a burning love. If you enjoy the "something" to lovers tropes, this is a good choice for you!

I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this story when I first requested to read it with net galley. However, I am so glad I did! I love a good historical romance. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about a gunslinger "couple", but it turned out to be a very good read, quite funny, and just a nice romcom! I will be seeking more by this author!

Having read many historical romances by this author, I could not wait to see how this story set in the west would turn out. I can only say it was fantastic! Historical westerns have become one of my favorites. Growing up watching westerns kind of instills that into the soul!

A gunslinger who is trying to retire and lay low, finds himself in a small town. But before he can sit back, he is thrown into the middle of an altercation between a fiesty woman and some not so nice guys!

She is trying to defend her land and claims him as her "fiance". Yes that pretend goes into real before long!

Laugh out loud moments, witty banter, wonderful town with quirky characters and an attraction that just sparks makes this a great start to this new series!!

I adored this book. I didn't know I needed a romcom historical romance, but this hit the perfect spot and makes me crave more of this niche genre. While being a lot of fun and amusing, it wasn't over the top the way that some romantic comedies can get. It fit perfectly in a historical romance setting.

My enjoyment of this book came directly from my absolute adoration of Gray Woodson who, in my mind, I kept connecting back to Augustus McCrae from Lonesome Dove (minus the constant drinking). Basically, if you turned Gus into a romance hero, Gray is who you'd get. As a big fan of Lonesome Dove (and Gus), that is high praise indeed.

Mercy was the perfect complement to Gray, though I would have liked to see more of her work on the orchard farm rather than always cooking or running to the general store. To create such a strong, independent character, I felt that often we didn't get to see her do what she loved.

The side characters and the small town were just wonderful and used in such a way that I look forward to the other characters' storylines, especially Preacher, Sunshine, and Jade.

My only knock of the whole book was the fact that in a town that backed their own, it seriously failed one of their own. While the support worked extremely well for one of the main characters, the fact that the town didn't do the same for the other main character when facing struggles (no spoilers here) is a huge plot hole.

Nonetheless, this is definitely an author I'd try again and I'd for sure read more in this series.

This western is one fun read! She is a handful and he just wants a quiet peaceful life. When he finds himself married to this little spit-fire.... You know it! Fireworks from all sides. I really enjoyed reading this one! I think I've found a new author to add to my list. I requested a copy through NetGaley, no review was required. My opinion and review are voluntary.

I love this story for the ingenuity of the writer. All these times we saw meek women in Wild West romance novels, sometimes opinionated, but at the end submit to the husband. But this! The heroine is so opinionated, has her own piece of mind to give to the hero, make the story so refreshing with their banter.

Thank you to Netgalley for a chance to read and review this book. Hitched to the Gunslinger is a historical romance about Gray Woodson, a man who wants to find a quiet place where he can retire in peace. A retired gunslinger, Gray wants nothing more than good food and a place where he can nap and remain anonymous. Instead, he finds Mercy. A very quick paced, action filled book that was a joy to read.

I have only recently started reading historical romances and I cannot believe I have waited so long! This book had me laughing, cry and loving this entire cast of characters. The town of Desolation has my heart and I hope we get more books in the future from this little slice of heaven.

Gray Woodson is retiring from gunfighting and just wants a place to nap. When he traitorous horse decides to lead him straight into a confrontation between a woman and a group of men, Gray has the shock of his life when the woman suddenly calls him her fiance. Mercy is used to being alone but when Gray stumbles into her life, she knows things are changing.

I adored this book and will forever be recommending it!

I love it when I am pleasantly surprised and fall in love again with a genre and a new author. Hitched to the Gunslinger by Michelle McLean had me falling in love with a western historical romance story because of her witty humor and flawed, interesting characters. The story grabbed me from the beginning and had me chuckling out loud throughout. Gray “Quick Shot Woodson wants to become a retired gunslinger and is searching for that quiet, out of the way place to rest his guns and boots. When his horse Birdie stumbles into Desolation, Gray somehow finds himself the fake fiancé to Mercy Douglas, a strong and independent woman.

Mercy and Gray took a fake relationship and made it into a real one and that takes some doing when neither of them thought they’d ever marry. Mercy is trying to outwit her neighbor from taking her land and water rights and hopes to scare him off with Gray as her fiancé. Gray ends up mostly aggravated by Mercy and vice versa. Gray has been drifting for most of his life and no place to call home. The town of Desolation grew on him as well as the people in the town. Mercy got under his skin and once they actually got married and became man and wife, he found himself thinking Mercy and Desolation could be the place for him.

Hitched to the Gunslinger was a fun, humorous and entertaining story. Even if you aren’t a fan of westerns, the characters themselves drew me into story and it was enjoyable to see them develop. There are a host of side characters of human and animal variety who just boosted the story and brought it to life. I’m glad I took a chance on this story because it whet my appetite to read more westerns and hopefully another story from Desolation.

It's amazing how many good historical romances I've read lately. This one is an inventive storyline I don't think I've read before. One thing I do disagree with is it isn't a comedy to me, just a traditional western with a few odd ball characters. I actually expected more comedy than I got. That's not to say it wasn't good because it was.
So how does a bad cook entice a retired gunslinger to stick by her? That's the question this book answers and not to destroy the ending, I can't tell you how she does it. Just know she is inventive and a lot of people around her help make sure he wants to stay for more than just her. The whole town needs the gunslinger and they all work to make him happy and feel appreciated. Many of them just by standing by him on a bad day, because there are a lot of bad days in this tale. She on the other hand isn't looking for love, just some to stand by her, until she realizes how devastated she'd be if he left. That's when she changes her mind and starts the convincing part of the tale.
In the end we get our HEA as we expect and have a little smile to take us to the next book we pick up.
See for yourself if a gunslinger isn't a good man in this one.

This book was different than what I usually read but I actually really enjoyed it. I liked the whole grumpy sunshine trope shown through the romance of Gray and Mercy. I really enjoyed Gray's character and how grumpy he was about just wanting to live a life of retirement but then falling to the town of desolation and having an active role in the community.I also like the conflict that brought the two main characters together. However I felt like the romance was a bit slow to start, it wasn't until the main characters got married that we saw any feelings from both sides. I think making the romance start until the middle of the book, it makes it hard to believe that they actually really like each other. Overall it was a fun, steamy read and hope to see more from this author.

I was underwhelmed by this book, but I think I may not have been the right audience. The reason I was attracted to this book in the first place is because I love historical romances, and I saw that one of the quotes about the book described it as "hilarious". It's difficult for me to find books that are both romantic and hilarious, so I was hopeful that Hitched to the Gunslinger (great title by the way) would scratch that itch. However, I think the sense of humor just wasn't my cup of tea. It reminds me of....how do I explain this...Facebook humor? Like, things that are very low hanging fruit, obvious sort of "ha-ha, very funny" *eye roll* kind of stuff. For instance, the main character doesn't bathe and him going around smelling to high heaven is supposed to be kind of cheeky and funny, I think...but it's not? Or when the heroine "playfully" scares the hero by shooting a gun at him? I think these moments are supposed to be sort of slapstick/comedy of errors-esque, but I was just like jeez these people are so immature. Actually I just looked up the definition of "comedy of errors" and that's exactly what I mean: "a situation made amusing by bungling and incompetence." The people in the story are definitely incompetent at times (despite Gray being known as the best shot in the West), and it just kept throwing me off.

I did not find Gray to be attractive in the least. He's a fine dude but would make a better side character. His side kick Sunshine is not much better (and I assume he'll get his own book) because his whole schtick is that he's pathologically optimistic. Cute but maybe I just like my heroes a bit more grizzled? Which is what I thought I would get from Gray, but alas! The tone of the book (silly/tongue in cheek) just wasn't what I was expecting from a Western, but I think that's mostly on me, and I am definitely in the minority here. If you're looking for a silly, breezy romp in the West, this may work for you. I wanted higher stakes and more emotion between the couple. They just seemed like they agreed to be together for convenience and it sort of ended there. They supposedly "fell in love" but I didn't see it.

Things I appreciate: 1) Mercy and Gray are older heroes (Gray is in his forties and Mercy is in her thirties, I believe) which I appreciated because we don't get enough representation of older couples in romance. However, you wouldn't know it based on how immature they are at times!
2) I think the "found family" aspect was very sweet and probably my favorite part. Miss DuVere was great (mayor and brothel owner). I actually wasn't bothered by scenes where other characters butt in and I often am in my romance. I typically like the central focus to be the couple.
Contains: gunfighting, swearing, explicit depictions of sex
Steam level: 2.5/5

Mercy, Mercy, Me! I loved Hitched to the Gunslinger. It was funny and sweet and sassy. Gray and Mercy were ornery, funny, and so entertaining. I love fake relationships and found family stories.
