If the cover itself doesn't draw you in with the utter adorableness of it, the story will definitely keep you there.
Gypsy to the Rescue by India Blake is a sweet, children's read. It's about a dog named Gypsy who was born at an animal shelter. She was a tiny, little puppy but she wanted her own home and was quite at the happy girl! Gypsy can't find a good home, until she runs away from a bad one and stumbles upon a new friend. After helping him catch some robbers, she's found a lovely person who could be her forever home.
First of all, the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. I love the style and colouring! It's so beautiful and really held me on the story itself. Then you have such a sweet ending... It's all around great. It's the kind of book that I would recommend kids to read. Animal lovers rejoice!
I will say though, it's a picture book that has some good sized paragraphs on the pages. So this isn't the best book for brand new readers (unless you plan to read to them, then go right on ahead!).
Four out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
This is a wonderful story! It has beautiful illustrations and Gypsy's story has just enough action to hold a child's attention. Loved it!
Thank you Malakie Press via NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a very sweet story! I love that Gypsy the dog found a happy ending. This is a book I would definitely buy for my own child or as a gift. There are multiple sentences per page (to give you a feel for the appropriate age).
Gypsy to the Rescue is a book full of beautiful illustrations depicting high regard for adoption, the love of a pet, courage and bravery. It is an engaging book I think people both young and old will enjoy reading. I will recommend this to children and parents for reading!
This book has extreme potential to be a beautiful story, however I don’t know how engaging it is for a young reader. While reading with my 6 year old, questions raised from him from this book were “what’s it mean to loose a bet?”, “why is gypsy acting like a guard dog when she ran away from the man who wanted her to be a guard dog?”. This book, I believe, was written to give a perspective into dog adoption, however, the dog becomes aggressive when suspicious. I understand this was meant to show him as protective, but it does make a child question how safe an adopted pup can be because of his past. Unfortunately, this book missed the mark for myself and my 6 year old.
The illustrations are quite lovely, and the intention behind this story is admirable.
I didn’t love this book. The plot was a little simple and outdated. The artwork was nice, but also, outdated. Nothing much here to grab the attention of a child
other than a cute dog.
I love Gypsy! She had such a rough start, but finally found her way. I was worried that it was not going to be a happy ending for her! I enjoyed the pictures and story and wished I could also play with her! She needed love!
This book was insanely cute. As the owner of two Shepherds I'm always looking for books with German shepherds in them. This is an adorable book to read to 2-6 year old's teaching them a variety of lessons about life, puppies and right and wrong. The illustrations were beautiful.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy.
This is a children's book that I read to my twin boys. This book is good for 1st to around 3rd grade. This book is all about Gypsy, a dog that needs to good home. I really enjoyed this book, and I found the story to be so cute. This book is very well written. The characters in this book are easy for kids to connect to, and Gypsy will pull kids right into the story. The pictures in this book are so cute, and I loved them so much. Great children's book with a great message about friends and love.
