The Liz Taylor Ring is, as you can imagine, a big nod to Elizabeth Taylor, which was interesting in itself. It's also a book about family, and we can't forget the epic love story between Lizzie and Ritchie. The story follows 2 timelines - in most cases, I tend to like one timeline over the other, but I honestly can't pick one here. I thoroughly enjoyed them both. Brenda Janowitz has a writing style that pulled me in, and it didn't take long before I was invested in this story. I found myself trying to keep track of where the ring was at different points in the story as well as being drawn into the relationship between the siblings. This is kind of a slow-burn story with a slower pace than I usually like, but it works very well here, and it made this the kind of book I could curl up with in the evenings. The Liz Taylor Ring turned out to be so much more than I expected and it's one I won't soon forget. I could easily see this being a good book club pick with so many elements to discuss.
This is my first book by this author and OMG I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!! This a beautiful story of family, siblings, love, and family legacy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I sped through because it is that good!!!!!!!! I even looked at her previous books and placed them on hold through my library system before I even finished this one.
The moment I saw the beautiful cover and romantic title, I knew I had to read “The Liz Taylor Ring.” She led such a glamorous life with her many handsome husbands and her wonderful movie roles, that I could see why Lizzie Morgan wanted to fashion herself after her. Ritchie Schneider certainly swept Lizzie off her feet with his good looks and his smooth-talking personality. Their courtship was very romantic even though Lizzie was going against her parents' wishes by dating Ritchie. Did Lizzie have her head in the clouds when it came to Ritchie or was theirs just a beautiful love story?
Their romance set the stage for the amazing book by Brenda Janowitz, who takes us back to the past so we can understand how the reappearance of the ring affected Lizzie and Ritchie’s children in the present. I found it hilarious that the Schneider siblings all had differing accounts as to whether the ring was lost, stolen or gambled away. They were tasked with deciding what to do with the ring now that it was back in their possession. One was obsessed with it, another refused to take it off and Addy, the oldest daughter, was just trying to keep the peace.
The ring is the real story; what it represents, where it came from and what happened to it throughout the course of the book. Why did it take on a life of its own and was there really more than one true story about the ring? The trial and tribulations of the Schneider family and the mysterious ring were funny, emotional and very entertaining. This book is filled with family drama, childhood memories and recollections of days gone by, and it is one I will definitely enjoy reading again!
When this book came across my email I knew I needed to read this book. I immediately requested it and couldn’t wait to read it. I have never heard of this author before and was excited to discover a new author.
First of all, I did NOT finish this book. I read 20% of it and could not finish it at all. So what I am reviewing is what I have read. A group of siblings have grown apart. One is a black sheep and lives across the country from the other siblings. Their father dies and they get notified that he had a secret bank box in the Cayman Islands. They have to go and get retrieve it. I did not like this book at all. I was at 20% and I had yet to find out anything about the Liz Taylor ring. I did not like the main characters at all. I thought that they were snobbish and just rude. The one sister that wasn’t snobbish just seemed like she was trying too hard to be a black sheep or something.
I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t get into it. I tried to start and stop it a few times thinking maybe I was not in the right mind to read it but each time I was unable to get into it each time. I don’t know what it was about it. The book was boring and just didn’t hold my interest at all. The characters were not well-liked and they weren’t well developed in my opinion. Read the book and make your own decision and maybe eventually I will try and finish the book but I can’t promise anything.
The Liz Taylor Ring has a different kind of premise than I've been reading lately and I found that refreshing. Lizzie and Ritchie have a love story for the ages. Ritchie has a severe gambling problem that causes terrible friction and devastation during their marriage, but they always love each other and their three children, Addy, Nathan and Courtney.
What follows is a journey about not only the ring, but the lives of the children and how their past has defined them. They learn about themselves and even more about their parents even after they thought they knew everything.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was paced just right and it was written in a way that made me want to know what exactly happened to the ring and how the siblings would work it all out. It also teaches an age old lesson of something we should already know but forget: everyone is going through something at any given time so we should be cognizant of that when we treat people the way we do. We also learn great lessons about family and forgiveness. This is my first Brenda Janowitz story and it won't be my last. I think a lot of people will enjoy the lifelong journey of Lizzie and Ritchie and then seeing the different viewpoints of the siblings. Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher.
A very intriguing historical mystery of family, romance and heartbreak. I enjoyed reading the parent's backstory and going along on the journey with the siblings to find out what they thought they knew may not have been what was the truth about their parents. The beginning of how their parents story began and resemble the famous couple with the same names had me hanging on to find out more. The mystery of the ring kept me turning the page to the very end!
This is my first book by this author. While I really enjoyed it, there was a few things that drove me nuts.
To me comparing Richie and Lizzie to Richard Burton and Liz Taylor is crazy. Not in a whacky sense but in a sense to me that Burton and Taylor's marriages were not true, forever, unconditional, love. They were both messed up. Both been married too many times. But this author apparently was in awe of them so that is all it takes to write a good story. I admire her for that. For all she wrote at the end also. She clearly put a lot of thought and research in this novel. Well done.
Now for Richie and Lizzie... Richie was truly a jerk. He loved the gambling way more than he did his wife or family. I mean really, he gambled away everything. As for the ring that was just crazy. It was more of a show piece or an item for Richie to turn too when he needed to use it again for his gambling. Lizzie was also messed up but she did love the jerk. She tried hard to keep forgiving him. Even though she stayed with him I can't believe she still thought he hung the moon and loved her unconditionally. She had to know after all those years that he had an addiction.
The children of Richie and Lizzie were all messed up in many ways too. I think living in the shadow of their dad being gone a lot and gambling so much and their mother telling them what an epic love story her life with him was had to play a big part in them having problems. The oldest girl, Addie, was very selfish and hateful to the youngest girl, Courtney, who was born like twelve or thirteen years after the first two. The son, Nathan, was ok. He did have a lot of insecurities that stemmed from the stories their mother always told him and all the letters he read that his dad wrote to his mom. There is love then there is the fact that you just can't seem to walk away. You have time invested in the marriage and you stay. Because of the children. Because you don't know what else to do. That is what I think.
I may have liked Maggie and Holly a bit. That is truly funny though. You get to know Maggie in the beginning and near the end. Lizzie's older sister who had secretly dated Richie for a while. Then she was like a child who lost something. Her sister gets Richie and she can't stand it. Even all those years after her and Richie broke up. Good grief who needs a sister like that. Though I can't imagine dating a man that my sister ever dated. So there's that. Holly is Maggie's daughter. She was the one that I honestly liked the best. I won't say why. I just did.
This book is good. It goes back to when Richie and Lizzie started dating then to after when their children are all grown with their own lives. Many things are told about the epic love story and each child has their beliefs as to what happened to the Liz Taylor Ring. I think it was the jeweler myself. I think he did something. ha ha You will know what I'm talking about if you read this to the end. This ring really caused a lot of heartache but it was the center of the story and the family revered it. It was the thing they all loved and hated. The thing that saved a marriage.
Thank you #NetGalley, #BrendaJanowitz, #Harlequintradepublishing for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book.
4/5 stars and I do recommend it. It's very entertaining and a lot of fun to read. Well done Ms Janowitz.
From my blog: Always With a Book
This is the first book I’ve read by Brenda Janowitz and I cannot believe it. It was so enjoyable and I will definitely be going back and checking out her backlist.
There is nothing I love more than a family saga and this one is just that. Add in drama and family conflict and I was totally hooked. I loved the way this story was told, not only alternating between the past and the present, but also alternating amongst the all the different characters’ points of views in the different timelines. I think this really allows us to get to know all the players involved and to see the events play out from different perspectives. I also love how the ring, which played such an integral part in Ritchie and Lizzie’s love affair, ends up being what ultimately brings the Schneider siblings back together.
I loved the dynamics between the siblings. Having so many siblings myself, I love books that delve into these relationships and I think the author really did a good job here. She really shows how secrets can wreak havoc on all relationships. Being the oldest, I had a particular fondness for Addy and felt that her character exhibited all the “oldest sibling” traits. These characters were so much more complex than first meets the eye and I appreciated the evolution of each even in the short time we are with them.
I really enjoyed this one and between the short chapters and engaging story, I flew through it in no time. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good family saga!
This is definitely Ms. Janowitz’ best novel to date and I’ve loved all her previous ones. It’s a story of love, loss and family. One item can mean something different to everyone in the family; it can hold value in different ways. Addy, Nathan and Courtney all hold their parents love story in high regard, almost to the point where the pedestal could come crashing down.
There are a bunch of twists that I didn’t expect and it adds to the mystery of the family lore.
I loved how she wove in the story of Liz Taylor and Richard Burton.
This book features the love story of Lizzie Morgan and Ritchie Schneider. The book opens with the introduction of Lizzie and Richie’s three children, daughters Addy and Courtney, and son, Nathan. Forty-one-year-old Addy, having been contacted by a bank on the Cayman Islands, advises her siblings that a safety deposit box that their father held at the bank needs to be collected. The three of them wonder what it holds and make the journey, discovering that it is a replica of the Liz Taylor Ring that their father bought for their mother when they were separated for a while just before Courtney was born. They are surprised as they have memories of it being stolen or gambled away several years ago. When the ring is returned it creates a sibling war as to who should receive it as it represents something different for them. For Addy it’s security, for Nathan, 40, it’s the representation of his parents’ love for one another and for twenty-nine-year-old Courtney, it’s a prize won from gambling and a way to solve debt problems.
This fascinating story gripped me from the very beginning. Told in alternating timelines of now and going back to the ’70s through to the noughties, following the Schneider parents’ love story in the novel was rather enchanting. The main thrust of the tale is a complex family relationship between siblings and parents, covering issues with addiction and gambling, as well as being about loyalty, forgiveness and loss. I enjoyed the characterisation, the mystery and the romance, all of which were well done. I am aiming to read more from Brenda Janowitz.
A special thank you to Graydon House and the author for a complimentary copy of this novel at my request received via NetGalley. This review is my unbiased opinion.
The Liz Taylor Ring by Brenda Janowitz is a historical fiction full of family drama. When three adult siblings wrestle over what to do with the much-loved diamond ring that belonged to their mother. A slow burn read that pulls you in and leaves you wanting more.
I'll start this out by saying in the beginning I did not care for any of the main characters except Diego, but the author definitely turned that around and made me happy to be reading this ARC.
I loved the little bits of Liz Taylor and Richard Burton history that were scattered throughout this book, but mostly I really enjoyed the growth and change in the characters as they realize that everything they thought they knew about other family members wasn't always true. These characters came to open their hearts and minds to their siblings and other family members and that's when true change and acceptance came about.
In my opinion, the overriding themes of this novel were redemption, forgiveness, and heart. That's exactly the time of thing that needs to happen more in this world and I really enjoyed this book. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for an ARC at my request. All thoughts are my own.
After adoring Janowitz’s last book, The Grace Kelly Dress, I absolutely could not wait to read The Liz Taylor Ring! Luckily, it did not disappoint!!
We follow the Schneider siblings as they work through layers of family drama all while solving the mystery of their family heirloom ring - that happens to be worth millions!
I’m pretty picky about family drama, but I immediately fell for each of the family members and truly enjoyed watching their relationships grow! Lizzie and Richie’s love story flashbacks were gorgeous and the back and forth flowed seamlessly! The alternating POV really gave the characters life and the short chapters kept s great pace.

🌊I got a major Malibu Rising vibe from this book and I think of you enjoyed that one (who didn’t???), you will love this!
I always enjoy a good family story with realistic sibling relationships, and Brenda Janowitz's latest novel with the enticing title The Liz Taylor Ring fits that bill perfectly.
When Lizzie falls for her older sister's former boyfriend Ritchie, her parents and sister are not happy. Ritchie doesn't seem to be able to keep a job, yet he always seems to have money. Add on the fact that Lizzie is infatuated with all things Liz Taylor (including her stormy relationship with Richard Burton), and Lizzie feels that it is destiny that she and Ritchie belong together.
We see their courtship and eventual marriage. Their marriage has its ups and some serious downs, including a nine month separation after Ritchie's gambling addiction comes to light in a bad way. Ritchie convinces Lizzie to take him back and gifts her with a huge diamond ring, similiar in style to the ring Richard Burton gave Liz Taylor.
After running through a series of jobs, Ritchie opens an inexpensive clothing shop that becomes successful in part thanks to their eldest child Addy's creative ideas. Eventually the store is being run by Addy's husband Gary and her brother Nathan. Their younger sister Courtney is still trying to get work as an actress, but she has problems of her own.
Following the death of their father, the siblings receive word that their father had a safety deposit box in the Cayman Islands no one knew about. Inside the box was the ring he gave their mother, which they had always believed had been stolen years ago. The three siblings disagree on what to do with the ring- keep it in the family (and who should get to keep it) or sell it and share the profits.
As the oldest sibling, Addy feels she deserves the ring. She has always felt that she doesn't get enough credit for making the store the success that it is. Nathan believes his husband Diego is cheating on him. Courtney has a drinking problem, and she and Addy fall right back into their troubled sibling relationship, with Nathan having to play peacemaker.
The siblings have to deal with the reality of their parents' marriage, their father's addiction, and how that all affected them in adulthood. Brenda Janowitz does a great job with the complicated sibling dynamics, it feels real to anyone who has siblings. She shows how adults fall right back into their old childhood ways with the people who know them best.
The characters are all so well-drawn, from the siblings to Nathan's husband Diego and Addy's husband Gary to Lizzie and Ritchie to Addy's teenage daughters, I cared about all of them. I highly recommend The Liz Taylor Ring.
This story is about a family, sibling relationships, love and loss, and an eleven carat ring they call the Liz Taylor ring. The ring has become not only family lore with many stories, but also a symbol for the love story their parents had. But was it as perfect as the siblings thought?
Lizzie Morgan and Ritchie Schneider met and fell in love in 1978. Their relationship was tumultuous and complicated. Over the years they had three beautiful children and many ups and downs in their relationship, but they never stopped loving each other. Now decades later, both Lizzie and Richie have passed leaving an unexpected gift for their children.
Addie, Nathan and Courtney are surprised when they receive a letter about a safety deposit box in the Camans that their father Richie had. Each of the children have speculation as to what is in the box, but together they go to retrieve what is inside. The unexpected gift will try and tear them apart and will be the ultimate test of their bond to their family and the legacy their parents left behind.
Brenda Janowitz takes her readers on a journey of an epic love story through the pages of this incredible novel. I loved reading Lizzie and Richie’s story throughout the book along with the stories of Addie, Nathan and Courtney. It was so well written, and you could feel the tension of the siblings jump off the page. The characters were facing real challenges that any family could be facing after losing their parents, which made the book even more real. Thank you so much to Harlequin, the author Brenda Janowitz and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy which I was gifted in return for my honest review. A solid five star read!
The Liz Taylor Ring is a sparkling symbol of everything that is right and wrong in the Schneider family. When nearly estranged siblings Addy, Nathan and Courtney are summoned to open a safe deposit box in the CaymanIslands, they are shocked to discover that it contains their dead mother’s gorgeous eleven carat diamond ring long believed to have been stolen, a gift to her from their father during a reconciliation. They believed that their parents, Lizzie and Ritchie had a Liz Taylor and Richard Burton like passionate love affair. They did but the dark side of that love affair has affected each one of their grandchildren and not for the better. Suspicion, dishonesty, addiction and manipulation try to smother love that Addy, Nathan and Courtney have for one another. Only by facing these problems directly will they learn how to be a real family. Through flashbacks, this family drama also shows the true relationship between Lizzie and Ritchie. Full of passion, yes but passion is not always a positive emotion.
A 5 star read, The Liz Taylor Ring is also full of homage to Elizabeth Taylor. Brenda Janowitz lists each reference by chapter at the book’s end. Kudos to her!
This book has all the elements of the perfect beach read. Family drama, gorgeous jewelry, and a cast of characters you’ll adore!
Lizzie and Richie’s love story has it shares of ups and downs, but after a 9 month separation, Ritchie’s gives his wife an 11 carat Diamond ring styled after Elizabeth Taylor’s.
Decades after the ring was stolen, or missing, or gambled away (depending on which of their children you ask) and long after their parents have passed, it resurfaced in the Caymans. The ripple effects of the ring, and the drama is created, threatens to tear the 3 grown siblings apart.
I adored every character in the book and loved watching their personal growth and the way it impacted their family relationships.
The liz Taylor ring by Brenda Janowitz.
In 1978, Lizzie Morgan and Ritchie Schneider embark on a whirlwind romance on the bright beaches and glamorous yachts of Long Island. Over the years, their relationship has its share of ups and downs, including a nine-month hiatus that ends with a stunning eleven-carat ring--one that looks just like the diamond Richard Burton gifted Liz Taylor after their own separation. Like the famous couple, despite the drama that would unfold throughout the Schneiders' marriage, the ring would be there as a symbol of their love...until it wasn't. Decades later, when the lost ring unexpectedly resurfaces, the Schneiders' three children gather under one roof for the first time in years, eager to get their hands on this beloved, expensive reminder of their departed parents. But determining the fate of the heirloom is no simple task, unearthing old wounds and heartaches the siblings can't ignore. And when the ring reveals a secret that challenges everything they thought they knew about their parents' epic love story, they'll have to decide whether to move forward as a family or let the ring break them once and for all.
A good read with good characters. I'm not normally into historical fiction but I did like this book. 4*.
I love how Ms. Janowitz incorporates old Hollywood into her books. Whether it is the Grace Kelly dress or Elizabeth Taylor's ring, it adds a fun history to the storyline. They are not the largest part of the story but they add a little bit of fun.
Family heirlooms bring a lot of history to our lives but also a lot of in-fighting. I think we have all witnessed it. The three Schneider siblings all want the ring that her father had stashed away in the Caymans. They all knew the story, or they all knew different facets of the ring's story. They all feel entitled to own the ring.
I love how we get the backstory of their parents and also their own stories. Addy and Nathan were always very close. Courtney, born much later than they were, has felt like the outcast. All three are struggling with different issues in their own lives. Their is also a family addiction that runs through the story.
Another great read by Brenda Janowitz. I always look forward to her books and was not disappointed in the least.
Thanks to Netgalley and Graydon House for an advance copy for review.
