If thinking fast on your feet is an art form, Lottie Jones is a virtuoso. When a failed LSAT shoots down her plan to be a lawyer, she falls into a job as a wedding planner. After all, she did spend her college years planning her wedding to her college boyfriend. Never mind that he broke up with her right before graduation, even though she already had the chapel booked, just waiting on his proposal. She works for one of the most prestigious event planning firms, specializing in over-the-top weddings for the super wealthy. It's not unusual for the bride to drop hundreds of thousands, up to a million, on her dream wedding. Lottie wrangles everything from parachuting grooms, to chickens, to drunk groomsmen, and turns disasters into fun remembrances.
This story had me in turns, giggling at the antics of the various characters, rolling my eyes at what constitutes a "dream wedding" when money is no object, and rooting for Lottie to overcome the person trying to sabotage her career.
If you're looking for a few giggles, Without a Hitch has plenty of those. There is a light touch of romance for Lottie, and the angst of planning her college boyfriend's wedding to a mega star. This was fun, and I can definitely recommend.
What happens when one has to plan one's ex-fiancé's wedding? This book is a fun read. It may not be a hundred percent romance novel, but it is all about being on a journey. An overall entertaining read.
I began reading this book in August 2020, shortly after I got married myself, so I don't know if I'm biased, but I really enjoyed it.
Without a Hitch follows the journey of Lottie Jones, a former Law Student, as she lands a new career in wedding planning at a prestigious company in Texas. She begins navigating a tough workplace, but no matter how outrageously extravagant the events get, she always manages to do a good job. However, as the clients get bigger and more famous, the stakes also start rising and as a result, Lottie will face a significant challenge in planning the wedding of her ex-fiancé, who is now a famous NFL player, to a Hollywood actress.
Many readers were put off by the fact that the plot does not revolve around romance too much, but what I enjoyed best in this book was precisely the fact that it was more of a journey of self-discovery than a romance. Lottie is relatable as she struggles to figure out what she wants to accomplish in her life and accepts the fact that she must enjoy living for herself instead of for everyone else.
Another highlight for me was reading about all the ludicrous and fun weddings that were described in such detail you could clearly picture them. I laughed out loud several times, cringed a few times, and was thoroughly entertained by each outlandish event.
One could say the pace of the book was a bit slow at times, but I didn’t have any trouble flying through it. I also honestly don’t understand why it got such a low rating here; it's not a bad story at all.
This was so cute!! I really enjoyed this one. It was more of a women’s fiction than a romcom, so that was kinda disappointing. I thought the authors did a great job writing this one and I really liked it.
This book was a miss for me. I really tried because i loved the premise but I couldn't connect with the story.
I just couldn't get into this story or these unlikeable characters with questionable motives. Unfortunately, this story was not for me.
I really enjoyed this book. The interactions between the characters were great and it was a fun read for me.
I'm very sorry to say that I didn't finish this book, this is my first DNF of the year.
I guess this just wasn't the book for me, I didn't feel like reading it when I had free time.
Anyway, I want to thank the publisher, the author, and NetGalley for this book.
The synopsis sounded interesting, and I really wanted to like the book.
However, I found the main character somewhat dull and the execution of the book was my thing. The wedding details were fun but there were way too many of them that the main plot like got kind of lost in the way.
I loved the idea of this book and was such a fun, funny read, but like most, I too had a hard time connecting with Lottie.
I received this novel as a advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Without a Hitch is a fun coming-of-age story for your twenties. The wedding planning part was interesting and some of it was comedic.
3/5 stars! I really wanted to enjoy reading this, but ended up being disappointed. The wedding theme was fun, yeah, but I had a hard time connecting with Lottie.
Lottie falls into a career of wedding planning after the florist she works for is sold. Now she's planning the wedding of her ex-boyfriend, the now-famous NFL player she thought she would marry in college.
This is mostly a series of mildy-funny tales of rich people and ridiculous weddings. The story mostly takes place in Dallas, TX, a hub of over-the-top rich people. I thought the book would have more romance elements for our narrator, but twas not to be. I didn't hate it, but I would not recommend it to anyone either.
This one didn't captivate me the way I hoped it would. In the end, I just didn't connect with the main character all that much, so I wasn't as invested as I'd like to be.
Life has not gone as Lottie thought it would. So she starts working for a wedding planner and planning everyone else’s happily ever after. She see a glimmer of hope when her boss announces that he is opening a new office. She wants that position so she shine on her own and finally feel good about herself. Next thing she knows is she is planning the wedding of the man she though she was going to marry. Let the crazy clients, mishaps, hopes and desires for the wackiest of wedding plans and hilarity begin all the while Lottie is trying to figure out what she will personally do for love. Its a fun romp to Lottie finally finding herself. A funny, laugh out loud read.
3.5 Stars ⭐
When wedding planning and romance interconnect, it sure creates magic.
All the characters were so funny and full of life. The writing and all the amazingggg descriptions of the weddings was spot on hilarious and so fun to read.
Lottie and Griffin made the perfect pair. Lottie gave off a little Elle Woods vibes which was fabulous! I saw such beautiful wedding details and depictions that I was so engrossed in the entire book!
The friendship and the romance, everything was so cute and beautiful.
Thank you Netgalley for providing the Arc. Loved reading this book!
Lottie spent most of college planning the wedding of her dreams to her boyfriend, star quarterback Brody -- even going so far as to book the campus chapel for their nuptials. Except, instead of proposing, he broke up with her, and instead of using her degree as her parents would like, she's landed a gig as a wedding planning for an upscale event planning company, and guess who!? becomes a client? Yep - Brodie's new fiance.
The novel takes on getting over heartbreak, finding your path in life, and has wonderful nitty gritty details --some outrageous! of details gone wrong and Lottie swooping in to save the day. The details do become a bit repetitive, and more ruthless editing might have made for a tighter narrative. The southern setting will have appeal for fans of that locale, and the not-quite-quarter-life-crisis tone screams new adult genre.
Great title, great cover, but Queerly Beloved was a better (and more diverse) take on the wedding planning industry.
I received an an advance reader's review copy of #WithoutAHitch from #NetGalley.
A fun read full of opulent, over the top weddings. I devoured the details from every outrageous wedding that Lottie helped plan, from the dancing in the inflated ball (I've seen one of those at a wedding!) to chickens- I loved it all. That's what fiction is for!
At times, I wanted less wedding details and more real life interactions (give me more of Griffin and his family and licking the ice cream paddle!) or I would have loved to see Megan's wedding come to life. The ending was a little rushed, but I still enjoyed the journey.
On a side note: I loved when Cedric gifted Lottie Louboutins (can I get a job like that?!) and all the references to Joe T’s!
This was such a fun book! Lottie's wedding planning adventures were a delight to read. I enjoyed seeing the characters grow, both personally and professionally. I wish There was more romance between Lottie's abs her main love interest but it was still an enjoyable read
