I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.
Hmmm just a no for me. The plot was cheesier than a Hallmark movie plot. Just was a pass for me.
The second in the series, we continue the story of Will and Arabella. While still so so, we do see more of them facing real world relationship problems in this one. Well, their real world anyways. Not many of us face running a country or anything.
The addition of the reality show is truly the best part of the book in my opinion. The issues they face due to participating in the show tests their new relationship and thus gives us more of a peek inside the inner workings of their relationship. Same as before, not my favorite romance book by any means, but for the right reader this is a cute rom-com royal esque love story that's a quick afternoon read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I received an advanced copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to NetGalley, Melanie Summers, and Indigo Group. ❤️
This 4 star read was a sweet, hilarious romp for me. I love anything with "Royal" in it so this is what attracted me to the book. It really was funny and I ended up listening to the audio after I read the Kindle ARC I had received thanks to NetGalley. I do think that it was better to listen to than to read. The narrators were wonderful and brought the book to life so maybe my review is leaning towards the higher side because of that. This was a funny story. The characters were great. The situation somewhat unreal but the idea brilliant. The writing both written and narrated was excellent and I loved it so much I have to go on to read the next. Why is my review so late? I was in Texas for my son's wedding in September and came home with Covid and it knocked me out for longer than I care to admit. However, I read the book prior to the wedding and listened to the audio while I was recovering so it is still fresh in my head. Try it....you really may like it! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for my honest opinion, which this is.
I love anything Royals so when I saw a new Royals book I knew I had to read it. It wasn't my favorite book of all time but it was a quick, enjoyable read. I'll continue on with the series because I'm invested in the Royals aspect but I do hope the next book has a bit more character development and unpredictability.
What a fun read, perfect for those craving a summer adventure filled with a touch of banter, a pinch of adventure, and a whole lot of great enemies-to-lovers romance!
I'm a sucker for anything royal, so the story of a princess -- especially a fierce, feminine princess, taking charge in the modern day -- is always a win in my books. and following her fish-out-of-water story was all too compelling.
Summers' writing is lush and descriptive, evoking summers in camp forests and backpacking adventures. Her prose is lyrical, and filled with joy and wit; it's natural to fall into the story she paints.
ROYALLY CRUSHED has definitely shot to the top of my "best-of-the-year" list -- cute, fun, witty and absolutely joy-inducing, it's everything you'd want (and more!) from a great adventurous romance!
A princess and a wilderness survivor enthusiast get together for some tension-filled moments that lead to romance. Will has plans for his future and the first step is to boost his wilderness shows ratings. Unfortunately, his ideas are nowhere close to what the producers are proposing.
Arabella wants to change her image, she wants people to take her seriously and stop thinking of her as weak what is the better way than to survive the wilderness on TV.
This story was great for many reasons - Will and Bella have goals they need to accomplish for entirely different reasons. They had no intention of falling for each other -ain't that always the way but proximity allowed for the love to bloom
A great story all in all however a little predictable in regards to a princess story and two people from different backgrounds. Will's behavior and hate for Bella, in the beginning, is again predictable. I would have expected seeing as they have a bit of a degree of separation there would have been more understanding from his side of things.
I am not a fan of chapter titles - I would like to go into the chapter with no expectation however these chapter titles were a little too detailed - one word would suffice But that is a personal choice.
A great princess read with the wilderness added in there.
A pleasant diversion. The writing is quick and witty. The characters were sufficiently developed to be believable and likable. The sex is like PG level. All in all, it was a clean, okay romance. I got the whole series at once so I will continue on, but only since I already have them.
When I started the first book in the series, I was unaware that the characters already had a history in the form of other books by the author. This crucial point escaped me somehow when I was looking at the blurb before picking it up.
It is not a very strong sticking point because all three books in this series focus exclusively on one couple and their issues.
The best part about it was the elaboration on the course that the lead couple's life takes during different stages of their 'togetherness'; this felt quite realistic and made this an enjoyable collection.
The first book of the series is a predictable, mild adversaries to lovers trope. It is, however, well done and had me cheering on Princess Arabella and Will as they navigated treacherous terrain (both literal and figurative).
The two characters come from vastly different backgrounds and have different things to prove, and the stakes are certainly not the same. This first instalment is all about the setup and eventual getting together, which forms the foundation that the rest of the series focuses on. There were some unexpected scenes, and the way the 'quest' ended is slightly different from the norm.
The author's writing was light while maintaining the gravity of the personal issues that all the characters have to bear within their personal and professional lives.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience of this and the other books in the trilogy.
Princess Arabella is tired of being mediocre and boring... enter Will Banks, the star of a nature docuseries/reality show where he regularly faces danger. The two are thrust together in a life or death situation- will they survive the jungle and their emotions?
I like Princess Arabella a lot, she is strong and powerful despite her upbringing and I enjoyed watching her come into her own. It was also enjoyable to watch the shell melt around Will and see how he can open himself up to scary experiences that are more internal.
I look forward to reading the next two in the series.
This book was So.Stinking.FUNNY!!!!!! It had a super unique premise, who has ever heard of a Princess hosting a Nature show?! The dialog with the characters hating each other had me snorting! If you need a light, laugh until you snort, enemies to lovers read this book is for you!
Love Melanie Summers Royals series.
Her writing is neat, tidy, funny and sometimes biting!
I know Avonia isn't a real country, but I so wish it was. I could happily live there even with the first world problems they have. Arabella is a princess who doesn't want the trappings of the monarchy. She rebels and flees by becoming a presenter for a reality show. She upsets Will, who has an already popular show, and sees her as a threat. They take their relationship through the jungle, literally.
I was provided with this book by NetGalley for an unpaid, honest review.
When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day.
Funny romantic adrenaline filled read! From the get go Will and Arabella’s enemies to lovers caught my attention. I’m not a huge fan of enemies to lovers but in this case their hatred for each other made sense and it was fun to read their snarky comments. Melanie Summers did an amazing job with the jungle description and successfully brought me to the setting. I also loved the character growth of Arabella. A woman growing and becoming more strong and independent is totally my cup of tea. Will and Arabella also had great banter and as characters they were both very likeable. The writing was hilarious and there were many lines that I’ve highlighted. Amazing read, would definitely recommend!
The title got me first, and then the story pulled me in before I got the chance to realize what was happening. I think this is one of my favorite books I’ve gotten from Netgalley. The plot was good, dialogue snappy, and ending satisfying.
I recommend this book and series as well as other books by this author. A laugh out loud, fun, romance that you won't want to put down
This whole series was different for it. I won't say that I loved it and I won't say that I hated it either. It was just in between. I like the author's writing style though.
Melanie Summer's has another hit with this book. I recommend this book and series as well as other books by this author. A laugh out loud, fun, romance that you won't want to put down.
I have very mixed feelings on this book - on a lot of the respective elements as well. Overall, I enjoyed the majority but there were parts that make me have to physically put the book ( or kindle in this case ) down.
THE CHARACTERS
- i loved loved the main two characters. both arabella and will were such lovable characters who were easy to connect with through the beginning of the book to the end. i loved to see both of them grow and i think their characters were perfect. on that note, dylan too was a perfect character but in a bad way. i hated her with a burning passion and i think i would just despise her more if i read tessa's story. giles and victoria's dynamic was so funny and i would've loved to see them more as characters ( as much as i hated victoria. ) but on the other hand, some of the side characters seemed so bland. this may be because they didn't have much time and i'm definitely interested in reading some of the authors other works, specifically the stories centering tessa and emma.
THE DYNAMICS ( family )
- probably my favourite part of the books was such. i loved tessa and arabella's dynamic with one another, as sister in laws. i also would've loved to see more of belle and her brother's dynamic because i would enjoy that. the same goes with her father. with will, his dynamics with his siblings was so so good. i loved him and emma and him and harrison. i think that sibling dynamics >>>
THE ROMANCE
- as the center of the book, this was mostly done well. i enjoyed the concept - the rainforest and all that. the romance until about 50% was perfect and i loved the sizzling tension. and then 50% - 70%. this is what i didn't like. the romance felt bland and cringe and it just didn't make sense how things were. it's not that it escalated quickly, it's just that i felt like it was... exaggerated, could i say? anyways, that portion was cringe for reasons that i'll go further into in the next section but overall and before and after that point, it was hilarious and cute and i loved the two of them together.
THE DIALOGUE
- to preface, their banter was the best thing. i love banter so much and this was so well done and written. throughout, their dialogue to one another was written realistically and well. but like mentioned, there were multiple lines that made me cringe and put the book down. they were just not anything a normal person would say. ' we can manage a few more hours in sexlandia? ' i don't think anyone would say that and lines as such, especially in the dialogue ( not the narration ) were just the worst. overall, their dynamic with one another and conversations were well done but some parts... were not.
THE NARRATION
- i liked the two pov's of arabella and will, especially their inner thoughts. i also loved the way that news reports were incorporated into the narration. it felt like we were seeing a third pov and i loved that very much. again, my biggest problem with this is how cringe some parts seemed. a whole two pages on ' sexlandia ' and arabella going on about it? besides that, i did enjoy the narration.
All in all, it was a cute, fun summer read and I did enjoy it despite not loving certain parts.
What happens when a princess and an adventure documentary host get together? Riveting TV.
Princess Arabella is tired of being compared to a mother she doesn't even know and the lack of ability to make decisions for herself. She decides the only way to break free of the mold is to drunkenly sign up to be a co-host to a wilderness docu-series. Will's show is not doing so well in the ratings and has brought in a new director to spice up the show. She ends up hiring Princess Arabella to be Will's co-host much to his dismay. Will and Arabella have 10 days from where they were dropped to make it back and their hatred for one another will make those days seem much longer than they are.
I flip flopped so much with this book. I loved it and then I was cringing and then I loved it again. It was such an interesting premise that I couldn't stop reading and had to know more. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable and I really liked how we were able to see them grow and become more honest with each other.
The author showed Arabella as a very down-to-earth person who is willing to listen to Will which I thought made her more relatable. I thought focus on the adventure she has with Will as opposed to her royal duties was a fun twist to the typical royal stories.
I received this ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
