Leslie North consistently brings great characters and passionate romance to life. As a big fan North's, her name provokes an automatic one-click from me. I am always entertained. I love it when she also teams with new to me authors.
I received Cowboy's Temporary Nanny as part of a NetGalley giveaway.
Left unmoored by the arrival of his newborn nephew into his care, rancher Adam Lewis is at a loss at what to do, until businesswoman Kaylee Scott enters his life. Though she's a practiced hand with the baby, she also has another task--to research locations, including Adam's hometown of Whittier Creek. for the expansion of the tech company for which she works. Despite his strong opposition to such a move, Adam agrees to hire Kaylee as a live-in nanny for baby Matty while she is in town. Once in close proximity, sparks fly and feelings develop. But will Kaylee's business and Adam's stubbornness get in the way of a happy ending?
I really appreciated the nuance presented in the book--that the small-town, good ol' boy stance isn't always "right" and that there a lot of legitimate viewpoints, and what said good ol' boy thinks isn't accurate or objectively correct. I feel like so often, romances--particularly small-town ones--default into this inherently conservative mindset and it's kind of terrible. I liked that there was pushback against the idea that small towns are perfect idylls that need never change, while still depicting them as decent places to live. It was a nice, neat little story, perfect for a summer afternoon.
