I see this Graphic Novel as a representation of the classic rich old man: misogynistic, rude, and unapologetic. Seeing women as sport or objects and not caring about other living things are viewed as normal in these circles, and the dialogue and illustrations certainly convey that. I don't think that the author meant to present this as something funny or normal, but as one of the sad truths of our society: men like the two main characters in this story are being looked up to and adored by the public while they play golf, disrespect everyone and fuck around together all day long. It is a good reminder of the things we and future generations should change in the world.

Thank you, NetGalley and Europe Comics, for the EArc.

Assholes is a graphic novel about two gameshow hosts. They're wealthy, and they're bad people. On the surface, they're just jerks, but as we read, we realize they're truly terrible people. They hurt those who they should love in their lives, and when called out on it, they resort to physical violence.

The book attempts to create sympathetic moments for the characters, but those fall flat because these aren't sympathetic characters. Heck, there's a whole chapter the publisher decided not to include because it was that bad. There were other chapters that, since they were included, really made me wonder about that specific chapter.

I've read books that had jerks with hearts of gold, jerks who changed when presented with a new world view, and jerks who had redeeming qualities, but this is just a comic strip about terrible people, and the art's not even that great.

This one wasn't worth my time.

It revolved a little too much around golf for my liking but I see how it could be a funny book for the golf playing cynics out there. 3 out of 5 wine glasses.

The art in this book is incredible, it's just...I'm not sure I'll ever look at game show hosts OR the game of golf the same way ever again.

This is book is supposed to fall under the genre of humor, but the jokes were not funny at all. The story is about two awful men who are celebrities. Their character never developed…they remained awful. The illustrations were decent.

Had to DNF. Not my reading genre.
I was like 25% and had to give up.
I do love the title of the book, and maybe I will try to read this again.
My brother in law is apreally into golf, maybe he will like this.

It's alright. Maybe years of American cinema have ruined me. It reads like a greatest hits collection of typical stuff you come across every day on the internet only this time it's gathered into one spot.

Thank you Netgalley for the EArc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun easy to follow comic that i found abit humorous at times. Follows 2 male celebrities during a round of golf. Definitely lives upto the title.

This book made me chuckle. The situations in the book were great. Totally shows how people can be assholes. This is written in comic form.

Episodic drama of two complete celebrity a-holes having a round of golf together, all the while slagging off each other, women, their wives, oral sex (?!?!) and a lot more besides. Fresh off of hosting daytime TV quiz shows, their true nature is revealed to someone bribed to run the errand of fetching their liquid, well, liquid breakfast as opposed to lunch. Oh, and we also get a letter from the publisher saying they baulked at even presenting the ninth 'hole' (ie chapter nine), which we have to hope is a joke. It's OK if you're in the market for the more puerile side of mature content, but the simplistic design and visual execution is on a par with the script, in being rather one note. Definitely NSFC (ie Not Safe For Clubhouses).

I wanted to like this book so much, but I honestly just can't.

My first thought is this book is very Trumpian, in the sense that its humor is so thoroughly based around what is defined as "Locker Room Talk," and at its core, this book is trying to cause a stir. Reading this was like a bad flashback to when Trump was still on Twitter, and we would dread the next thing to pop up.

Given that we start with the low bar of these men talking (while through innuendos) about propositioning the girl's mother about sex, as well as having read many other works published by Europe Comics, that left me disgusted. I am honestly concerned about what was depicted in Hole 9 to make Europe Comics say, "With regard to both imagery and subject matter, the outlandish events that unfold herein simply could not be reconciled with the values and moral standards that we affirm as a literary institution." These left me so flabbergasted that I had to see if I could figure out what this content initially was, but sadly could not. Though in reading interviews with the Authors, I was only more confident that this works for the sole purpose of being provocative.

Overall lacked real humor, and while the art is gorgeous, I can't recommend it.

Assholes is satire in visual form — humor, insight, and acerbic writing/design in comics. An enjoyable read.

This was... not good.

2 tv hosts play golf and talk trash. That's it. They are mean, they are vulgar, there is no story besides them being asses, the end.

The artstyle was not my thing either.

Thank you NetGalley and Europe Comics for the EArc. I’ve never played golf but I assume this is exactly how every golf games between two men goes, The banter between the men is hilariously misogynist and inappropriate so this quick little comic isn’t for the sensitive crowd. I found it enjoyable and witty.

I hated this.
There was no storyline besides crude and vulgar "jokes".
Didn't liked the art style or the characters.
A total miss for me.

All it is about is two old “celebrity” men who are talking absolute trash while playing golf. I pretty much found it disturbing that they left a dead guy behind as well playing with a dead bird like ewwww man!

Thanks Netgalley and Europe Comics

This one lives up to the name. Super crude, rude and UN PC, but also how I picture some of my husbands friends as they talk on the golf course. I don't read many graphic novels, but I needed a change up and decided to try this out of my comfort zone. I did have some laughs but mostly found myself just shaking my head at the antics. The graphics were good though and I could follow the book well.

This was a pretty pointless graphic novel. The premise is two awful local celebrities aren’t golfing together and being genuinely awful to each other and in general. That’s it! The characters don’t develop, nothing important happens either. I kept waiting for something dramatic to happen but it was just pointless debauchery. It wasn’t even that funny.

This graphic novel is essentially one long dirty joke, but the punchline isn’t really that funny.
