Robbie is getting married in the month. She knows changes will be coming in her life. What she didn’t expect was an antique shop across the street complete with a food truck. She also doesn’t expect food poisoning.
This is a great story complete with the wedding. Enjoyable characters set in Indiana. Loved it.
My fourth in this series although it is the ninth instalment, Robbie Jordan, the owner of Pans 'N Pancakes makes a great amateur sleuth. She gets involved when a man eats an omelette in the restaurant and dies. There has also been a spate of other incidences; regular customers have been falling ill, vintage cookware items have been disappearing from the shelves in the cookshop and who does the food van belong to that has been appearing every morning?
Danger lurks in this charming tale set in South Lick, Indiana. Robbie is due to be marrying handsome and charming Abe O'Neill, an electrical lineman. She is a methodical, determined and single-minded protagonist and you get a real sense of place and family from her restaurant/ diner which is one of her main focuses. The supporting cast is a real asset to the series including the regular customers, Robbie's Aunt Adele and employees Danna Beedle and Turner Rao. A heartwarming end wraps up the story that left me smiling. Humorous and endearing, I shall be continuing with this series and hope to read a few of the earlier instalments while I wait for book ten, Batter Off Dead to be released.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
In this ninth book in this series, Robbie Jordan is getting married to Abe in a month. First she has to figure out who sent poison mushrooms in her food order. Was it Abe's ex-wife? Her brother who now runs the food supplier company used by Robbie's store and restaurant? His kooky wife who has a competing food truck across the street? Her father who has an old grudge against Robbie's aunt, Adele? Also, who stole the antique graters from Robbie's store? (Too bad Pans 'N Pancakes is fictional, I would like to have that grater with the Bakelite handle.) With help from friends and family, Robbie gets it all wrapped up before the big day, but not without some personal tragedy. This is a wonderful cozy mystery series with warm and likeable characters.
No Grater Crime by Maddie Day is an excellent cozy mystery that is the newest installment of the wonderful series: A Country Store Mystery.
I am new to this series. I have read one other book from this one so far, and do not know why I never read up on the rest. I have to say after reading this, I have already purchased and/or borrowed all of the other novels and now am eagerly diving through them.
I love Robbie, her Pans and Pancakes country store and restaurant, the town and people of South Lick, Indiana, and I love where this series is going.
Robbie is a great character with a complicated past, but she is truly making a go of her new life since opening up her dream.
The murder/mysteries so far with this series are interesting, intriguing, and always keep me engaged. The character development from the first book to this one is present, and I always seem hungry for griddle cakes after finishing a book.
There are 9 books and a novella in this series and I plan on devouring every one of them.
One of my new favorite cozy mystery series!
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Kensington for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication.
"No Grater Crime” the 9th book in the Country Store Mystery series by Maddie Day. I just love this series! Lindi loves it too! Robbie Jordan's Pans 'N Pancakes boasts delicious eats and the best vintage cookware finds in South Lick, Indiana. And now, for a limited time, there's a new special featured on the menu--murder!
This is the fifth book I have read in the series and I was able to follow along easily so it can be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed it and practically read in one sitting.
I love the setting of South Lick, Indiana and I love Robbie and her staff at Pans N Pancakes they are like a big family. There were some nasty characters this time with touches on mental illness, and just plain old meanness. But through it all you still felt the good in most of South Lick. We learned more about Sean - Abe’s son and BFF Lou’s sister this go around too which was nice.
There were enough twists to keep me intrigued and wanting to know how it ends. The plot and story were good and seemed to flow at a good pace. I did suspect the killer but what a surprise ending. I’m looking forward to seeing how Robbie, Abe and Sean blend households in the next book.
I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a cozy filled with down home characters and a small town atmosphere.
I requested and received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my OWN.
NO GRATER CRIME is the nineth book in the Country Store Mysteries by Maddie Day. Set in Indiana, the author captures the essence of the Midwest with the mannerisms and vernacular of the small-town residents. Her strong descriptive voice brings the area to life and allows the reader to feel like they’re living right alongside Robbie Jordan, owner of the Pans ‘N Pancakes. Robbie is busy running her successful café and shop, plus planning her wedding to Abe and getting to know her future step-son. Ms. Day has allowed the characters to grow and evolve over the course of the series, and as a result, I feel invested in what happens to them. I love how they are kind and supportive of each other. Even when facing unsavory characters or delving into investigations, Robbie manages to exude a sense of kindness.
With everything going on the last thing Robbie needed or wanted was for someone to die in her restaurant after eating her omelet containing poisonous mushrooms. With the café temporarily closed, Robbie feels obligated to find out how the mushrooms ended up in her kitchen, and who might have wanted the man dead. Or, is someone trying to frame Robbie and put her out of business? Ms. Day sets the mystery up and then delivers a pitch perfect investigation. While it seems kind of obvious from the onset who might be responsible for the crime, there are twists and turns to follow alongside Robbie. I waffled back and forth multiple times as I followed the clues until the final reveal. Wrapping up the story is a heartwarming end that will leave a smile on the reader’s face and the desire to find out what is in the future for Robbie.
Running a café gives Robbie the opportunity to showcase her culinary skills. Be prepared to be hungry from all the mouthwatering descriptions mentioned on the pages, and be sure to check out all the recipes included at the back of the book.
This is the ninth book in Maddie Day's Country Store Series featuring Pans 'N Pancakes. Please see my review at www.reviewingtheevidence.com.
One of my favorite series and this book doesn't disappoint. I love Robbie and her clan. This was a good mystery, the twists kept me guessing. Already looking forward to the next book!
This is one of my favorite series of cozy mysteries. I am always excited to go and visit South Lick, Indiana with some of my favoirte characters; Robbie, Aunt Adele, Abe, Dana and more. In this book, No Grater Crime, Robbie Jordan is planning to marry Abe and it can't be a normal day in South Lick, Indiana without murder. Along with a new store opening up acrross form Pan "N" Pancakes, a food truck appearing across from the store, missing antique items, and mushroom poisoning is another day in South Lick, Indiana.
Thank to NetGalley for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for an honest opinion.
This series is such a delight to read and I am so glad I discovered them! However, they make me crave breakfast something awful but in a good way!
Robbie Jordan is getting married and enjoying spring in South Lick, Indiana. While she and her aunt Adele are at a nearby antique fair, they run into an old nemesis of Adele's who still holds a grudge. Imagine Robbie's shock when they open an antique store right across from her restaurant AND their daughter owns a food truck and she parks in front of her parents' establishment. Robbie's woes materialize in the form of poisonous mushrooms delivered to her restaurant, which coincidentally came from the food supplier formerly owned by said nemesis. When someone dies from eating at Robbie's place, Robbie starts sleuthing to get justice for the man and clear her name. This book made me appreciate my dislike of mushrooms.
This is another small town cozy that feels like you are returning to a charming group of friends and delicious breakfast food. Robbie is a delightful proprietor and heroine and I appreciate that she evaluates situations before diving head first into "too stupid to live" scenarios (her words) as sometimes I wonder why these smart, successful women plop themselves into situations that normal people would question, but then we wouldn't have a genre then, right?
Anyway, loved this one, hope for many more adventures (and tasty recipes) in South Lick!
An antique shop is opening across the street from Robbie Jordan's Pans 'N Pancakes. The owners, Francis and Hattie Sand, have a long-standing grudge against Robbie's aunt and it's no coincidence that odd things start happening with their arrival in South Lick, Indiana. Robbie's recently purchased vintage graters vanish from her country store and Francis' daughter Kristin opens a breakfast food truck opposite Robbie's cafe. When diners become ill and one elderly man dies after eating an omelet made with poisonous mushrooms, Robbie's cafe is shut down by the health department. Forced to be idle, Robbie is determined to find out whether the tainted mushrooms were deliberately sent to her by the food delivery service she uses or if it was an innocent accident. Robbie is also busy getting ready for her upcoming wedding to Abe O'Neill.
Not as strong as the previous books but this was still a good read in the Country Store mystery series.
I received a digital ARC from Netgalley and Kensington Books with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.
It is always a delight to be back home again in Indiana. Miss the Southern Indiana area as I now live in the Southern California area instead. Our intrepid protagonist has troubles galore with her new competition. I think I will pass on having mushrooms on my pizza this week. Read the book to find out why. I have hunted and eaten mushrooms. My neighbors refused them politely. They contributed the deer they had hunted, which I also politely declined. Would love to be able to join Buck and the rest of the regulars having breakfast at the Country Store. Yum! Guess I will have to utilize the recipes provided to make the goodies myself.
The characters in Maddie Day's A Country Store Mystery series are interesting, but not always completely likeable. Her 'No Grater Crime' is no exception. Robbie is a complicated character who has grown a lot in the progress of the series. The mystery in this story is brutal and painful, tempered by a warm and happy ending. I will be interested to see where the author goes with the series in the future, especially considering the changes in Robbie's life.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This is the ninth book in the Country Store Mystery series. You do not have to read them in order but I recommend it!
A new antique shop is opening across the street from Pans ‘n Pancakes. It seems like ever since Robbie met the owners strange things have been happening. Her food deliveries are late and incorrect, a mysterious food truck has opened in front of the antique store, items are stolen from the store and tainted mushrooms cause a death at the restaurant. Now Pans ‘n Pancakes is closed while the death and mushrooms are being investigated.
Were the mushrooms purposely added to the food order or was it an accident? Is someone out to get Robbie? With the help of her amazing crew Robbie is on the case!
I enjoyed this book as I have the whole series. I love the characters and the storyline was great!!
These characters were an awesome treat to read. This was my first time reading a book from this series and I finished it in a day. I love the characters, even the ones you know you are supposed to hate. I also really enjoyed the different slang terms. I am from the Midwest and I never heard some of them but now I think I will. This is a truly enjoyable read and I can't wait to read more.
Thank you Kensington Books and NetGalley for the advanced read.
No Grater Crime by Maddie Day is the ninth book in her Country Store Mystery series. This is a somewhat interesting mystery but not one that really kept me guessing. Main character Robbie Jordan has strange things happening around her country store. I like the characters in this series but this storyline was not my favorite. It just wasn't like the earlier books in the series I have read.
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
This should be a really happy time for Robbie- she's about to marry Abe and merge their pets and families. Unfortunately, however, someone seems to have it in for her. Who in the small town of South Lick would poison one of her customers and why? Who is stealing things from the cafe? The health department shuts her down, she's dealing with the owners of the new store across the street who have a serious grudge against her Aunt Adele, and well, she's going to figure it all out. This is nice addition to the series but don't worry if it's new to you- it will be fine as a standalone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC, Day writes a nice cozy - and the end will make you smile.
I really enjoy this series! The theme is fantastic, and the author does a great job of fleshing out the characters and the setting. The story was well-paced, and I had so much fun trying to solve the mystery. Maddie Day is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors, and this book did not disapoint!
Maddie Day's 9th book in the Country Store Mysteries series, No Grater Crime is as wonderful as the others in this series. Though I came late to this delightful series, catching up has been a pleasure. The characters are exceptionally engaging, growing and developing as the series continues---the friendships and relationships are just what I enjoy most. Yummy food descriptions, cozy small town setting, and a murder mystery make for a page turning adventure.
Thank you #NetGalley and #KensintonPublishing for giving me the E- ARC I requested. I review books I enjoy for my friends and followers.

Maddie Day is a talented author who infuses her books with passion, love, and mysteries that can take your breath away. Book nine in the “A Country Store Mystery” series, No Grater Crime embodies all of Maddie’s talents in one story. Pans 'N Pancakes, Robbies, cafe, is at the heart of this installment. Readers will enjoy spending more time at the store with the crew and friends while Robbie works to solve a murder.
When a customer dies suspiciously after eating at Pans 'N Pancakes, fingers are pointing directly at Robbie, but she suspects it has something to do with her new neighbors, who also happen to hold a grudge against her aunt. Top that off with finding out that her soon-to-be husband, Abe’s ex is related to the neighbor’s, and she has her hands full and her mind a jumble. The cafe is closed down, there is a thief in their midst, and her wedding is just around the corner. Suspects are quickly identified, but the motive is elusive. You can guarantee there won’t be any dishes at the wedding that contain mushrooms, and hopefully, no murders either.
Readers will enjoy the action in this book and turn the pages eagerly. The characters, including the killer, have issues that can’t be fixed with good food, no matter how much Robbie wishes it could. The relationships throughout this series give readers a sense of family and home, and this addition is no different. Pans 'N Pancakes, Robbie’s cafe, makes you want to find a place just like it and spend time eating and enjoying the community atmosphere every day. The killer is revealed, although their identity does not come as a big surprise after Robbie once again puts herself in peril. Robbie wraps everything up as she and Abe finally walk down the aisle. This is a well-written, engaging mystery that has heart, enjoyment and will make readers hungry. Readers will love No Grater Crime as much as they have the rest of the series, and I, along with other fans, look forward to the next chapter in Robbie’s life.
