Violet, the first born of a sister triad doesn't have the magic to be Prima. Her sister has the job. But Vi is starting to feel her Sparky when her first love, Lincoln, a wolf shifter, Alpha of the North American Pack, comes back into her life. How can she trust him when he broke her heart at eighteen? Lincoln is almost thirty-three and must have a Mate Bond. If he doesn't pick his mate the council will pick one for him. Violet is put in the same position to Mate Bond. Lincoln and Vi have a plan to help each other, until the fake relationship becomes real. Funny and quirky with lots of magic.
Mild descriptive sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this advanced eARC for an honest review.
This was an unexpected and cute read. The story wasn’t too complicated given it was set in a supernatural meets modern world and the characters weee lovable. The banter was great and overall, the writing was full of wit and charm.
A fluffy romcom. No surprise there. I was surprised by how much I did not enjoy this one. The characters fell flat for me. There wasn’t much to them and they were very immature. I feel had I liked the characters a bit, I would have enjoyed it some.
witches and wolves, oh my! Yes please! Such a cute and perfect read. This second chance romance would be perfect for the Fall. Occasionally I'll read a rom-com and this one was great!
I wanted to like this book more, but it was too fluffy, even for the brain candy paranormal romance that I was expecting it to be.
This was an enjoyable, romantic read. The world building is pretty expansive and feels a bit "info-dumpy" in the beginning but once the story got going I was along for the ride. I would definitely read more in this series.
Thank you for allowing me to review this title! I loved this book so much that I finished it in less than a day. The characters were amazing. I loved the witty banter as well as the angsty feelings I got when both characters appeared on the same page together, The world building was not overly complicated, which non fantasy readers will appreciate. Overall, A wonderful read! I can't wait to read the other books in this world.
While I had extremely high hopes for this book I struggled a little in the beginning. Once I got past that this book was crazy, entertaining, wild ride of urban fantasy waltzing with young adult romance.
Overall rating: 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 here.
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬: Second chance romance, supernatural romance, fake dating, rom com.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 👍:
▫️Very lighthearted and easy to read/listen to casually.
▫️Great audiobook narrator who really brought the story to life.
▫️ Overall a good premise with simple, easy to understand world building that wasn’t overly complicated.
▫️ Not a ton of spicy scenes but lots of angst and tension, and the few spicey scenes were well written and fun.
▫️ Great chemistry between the male and female main characters.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 👎:
▫️Cheesy at times, specifically with word choices - “hells spells” and her calling her magic “sparky,” but maybe that’s just me.
▫️Could have been a tad shorter and accomplished the same thing.
𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞: Rom coms involving fake dating with supernatural thrown into the mix. I’d recommend for a lighthearted, casual romance read.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for giving me a free eARC of this book to read in exchange for my review!
This book was hilarious! I flew through the audio and loved every second of it.
It was the perfect opener to my seasonal reading!
I love that so many authors I love are branching out into paranormal romance. This is definitely lighter than April’s previous books that I’ve read. I was just put off by the amount of time spent describing the MCs appearance and name dropping clothing and makeup brands,
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my chance to review.
Witches, shapeshifters, and a fake dating trope? That's right up my alley. This book was cute and fluffy and full of things I like. I especially liked Violet's feisty grandma and that Linc was working for positive change in the shifter community.
*Not the Witch You Wed* had an intriguing premise with an appealing mix of fantasy, intrigue, drama, and romance. I am interested in continuing the series; I would like to learn more about Violet's sisters and their journeys to discover their places in this magical world.
Give me anything and everything witches! This was a fresh take on the genre and I really enjoyed it.
It has been awhile since I read a paranormal romance. This one had great cast, a captivating storyline and plenty of steamy scenes.
Violet Maxwell is a magic-less witch, or so she thinks. That is until Lincoln Thorne stirs up her inner spark. The two share a troubled history, but find themselves in a fake dating relationship until they can figure out how to handle some outdated supernatural laws that are pressing them to find their mates.
These two leads were great together. I loved their dual perspectives. They had just the right mix of tension, banter, seriousness and romance. The supporting cast was just as good. I loved the dynamic of the Maxwell triplets and the supportiveness of their friends, Harper, Bax and Adrian. I think my favorite character was Violet’s grandma, Edie. She has the power of being the Prima and on Council, yet gave the best tender advice.
This story is full of supernatural characters and paranormal activity, yet it’s showcased in a really fun way. Violet is obviously a witch, while Lincoln is not only a wolf shifter, but the Alpha of his pack. There’s also a succubus, an angel, a demon, a vampire and plenty of other animal shifters. I enjoyed watching Violet learn to control her newly awakened magic. The author includes a glossary if you aren’t already familiar with several of the terms.
Book two is perfectly set up to showcase another Maxwell sister finding her own true match. I’m intrigued to learn more about Rose and Damien.
“Boys eventually turned to men and then their actions, fueled by a childhood of getting away with shit, amplified by ten.”
I am late to this train, because I finally have a break from school...but when I tell you I absolutely devoured this book. There is something to a book that has so many magical nuances that just makes my heart sing. As someone who lives the whole year mourning the end of spooky season, I could not have asked for a more fun summer read. From the paranormal elements, to the fake dating trope, to just the overall vibes of this book, I found myself wanting more.
This is my first read by the author but it definitely will not be my last!
Due to some health issues, I was unable to get this book read and reviewed in a timely manner. I apologize.
This just didn't do it for me. I don't know what I was expecting, but I was hoping for a little more magic. Just wasn't for me.
