Oh my hex! I can't believe I let this linger on my TBR pile as long as I did. This is a fun start of a new paranormal romance series. Violet Maxwell is the eldest of triplet witches. At 32 she is known as the Magic-less Maxwell. When she runs into her teen love and heartbreaker Lincoln Thorne magic starts to bubble from within. Lincoln’s world is busy as an Alpha shapeshifter wanting to change the old order of things. Being in a fake romance will keep the high counsel out of both their lives for a short time. If only old feelings didn't reappear.
I love the world that April Asher creates with supernaturals beings. I could easily see romances for the other two Maxwell triplets who are loving and helpful to their sister Violet. But other side characters are developed enough I would even enjoy stories for them as well. This is fun with minimal angst. There is steaminess but I was a little surprised there wasn't a bit more. Can't wait to be with these characters again. Also kudos for the cover!! It actually looks like the characters description in the book. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
A cute slow burn supernatural romcom with witches, shape shifters, angels, and virginal succubi. Including enemies-to-lovers and fake-dating tropes. Fun, sexy, funny, and a different kind of magic system than we usually see!
I loved the rom-com vibes of this book. The story and characters are fun, and I look forward to visiting this works again.
I was so excited about this book; it checks a lot of my boxes—witches, shifters. plus size protagonist, ROMANCE! But the execution was super lackluster. The spicy scenes were too fast and not very well written. There were WAY too many pop culture references (I drew the line at Fabletics). The dialogue and characterization often felt contrived. The plot felt strained and rushed.
This book had all the elements I look for in a paranormal romance, but it just wasn’t for me.
This was such a fun take on paranormal romance! I loved the mix of classic paranormal creatures and tropes set in a rom-com-esque story. It was fun and quirky and highly entertaining!
Witches are definitely having their moment in a paranormal romance, and I'm here for it. In this we're following triplets who are part of the most powerful witch family - think Charmed sisters. But our heroine has never shown signs of magical abilities.
When she runs into a wolf shifter who broke her heart, she finds herself taken down a wild path of fake dating, paranormal politics, and sparky new powers.
This book had so many fun moments and tons of tension filled interactions. The chemistry between these characters was so well done! And the author did a great job of building their connection without relying too heavily on their past. I never felt like I was missing out on any development of their romance.
There are also tons of amazing side characters that I really hope get there own stories!! (I'm looking at you Bax)
If you're looking to dip your toe into a fantasy/paranormal romance - this is the perfect place to start! This series reads like a rom-com but still has all the classic paranormal creatures/characters. And I definitely plan to continue on with the rest of the series!!

I have read quite a few paranormal romcoms in the past few months and this is one of my favorites. It was a little slow st the beginning but it got better. I loved the characters and had such a fun time reading it. It has amazing banter (which I always look for in romance books). There are a lot of paranormal romances that lack world building and leave me wanting more, but this wasn't one of those. That being said, there were a lot of politics involved. I love most the tropes used. Second chance romance isn't usually my thing but I really liked it in this one.
I am definitely going to read the rest of this series.
Ok so this started out a little slow and confusing for me and I almost did't finish it! But so glad that I did and I am even wanting a second book!
A wonderful paranormal romance that will have you cheering and laughing. Once I got past the beginning of the story with so much thrown at the reader at once it was a little hard wrapping my head around all the info...but I persevered and loved the book.
The characters were wonderful and there was quite a bit of humour to be had. I laughed quite a bit and was cheering for the underdog (pun intended)...mainly Lincoln. I really fell in love with the characters and once I got into the book I couldn't put it down.
The author's writing kept my interest after the first couple of chapters. I know the beginning you have to give the reader all the information but it was too much to fast...but it is well worth the read now I'm wanting a second book! I really hope this turns into a series because I loved it.
Highly recommend
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read a digital ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A super cute rom com for anyone who loves buffy, charmed, supernatural, and lost girl.
A witch who never came into her powers finds herself in a fake relationship with her past ex, the alpha shifter of the North American pack.
I really enjoyed the banter, friendship and pop culture references in this book. It was a cute comfort romance.
Paranormal romances can be tough because of the necessary world-building, but I think that this book really did well with this. It was fun, sexy, and full of tension! Violet and Lincoln's second chance at love is definitely worth a read, and I hope to read more in this world.
This book was honestly super enjoyable for me, I really loved the tropes in play as well as the magic that’s involved. I feel like it all ended up mixing really well, and honestly was even better than I anticipated. I’m super excited to see what others think upon release as I feel like it is really up the alley of many YA readers now and could be a booktok hit for sure.
Love the fake relationship trope and anything paranormal so this one was right up my alley and I'm glad to say that I really enjoyed it! I loved that this one was a comedy, rather than being so serious like a lot of paranormal romances and will definitely recommend this one to friends!
My Thoughts
A lot of information is given in this book with Lincoln and Violets romance woven throughout.
At times that resulted in information overload as I lost the thread of what plot point was most important.
Fake-Dating and Fake-Mating are tried and true ways to further a paranormal relationship but for these two it was actually a second chance, one that should have been easy but thanks to past hurts was instead full of pitfalls.
Magic and politics abound while Linc and Violet navigate their situation with an end result that was exactly as I expected.

On every book read as soon as it is done and written up for review it is posted on Goodreads and Netgalley, once released then posted on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles as well.
I absolutely adored this book. It was sweet, cute, funny, and overall a super enjoyable read. Sometimes I did feel there was a bit of info dumping, especially with regards to the who's who of it all, but for the most part I had a fantastic time reading this. I loved the enemies-to-lovers and the paranormal elements.
What a quirky paranormal rom-com! This will be perfect for the fantasy reader who also loves lighthearted romance.
After a string of mediocre books I started this on a whim, not sure exactly what to expect. Am I a paranormal romance reader? Nope, but I’ve always wanted to branch out more and this sounded like the perfect place for a newbie like me to start. It totally was, I freaking loved this one. Who knew shifters would work for me?!
I was a little nervous that the whole supernatural aspect would be confusing for me and it wasn’t. I thought the author did a great job explaining the laws/rules while not getting too bogged down in the details to where I was bored. It honestly fascinated me and made me hope that maybe this will be the start of a new series? 🤞🏻There we’re so many interesting and fun side characters that I would love to read more about. The romance was perfection, Lincoln and Violet had A plus chemistry and witty banter wrapped up in a mash up of fake dating/enemies to lovers/second chance romance. Overall this one was just a pure delight, I can’t tell you how happy this one made me, it provided a true escape and left me smiling. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks @leoprny for my copy!
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I love paranormal romance but also throw fake dating into the mix and I’m hooked!
Violet Maxwell is a witch with no powers known as the Maxwell dud. She has two sisters Rose and Olive who both possess magic and they are triplets.
Lincoln Thorne is an alpha wolf shifter and he has known Violet since they were kids but he broke her teenage heart. Violet wants nothing to do with Lincoln but they agree to fake date when they need more time to deal with their problems. But with fake dating comes feelings that Violet thought she didn’t have for Lincoln anymore. She is finding that any time she is close to Lincoln sparks fly. I loved the banter and chemistry between Violent and Lincoln and seeing where their relationship took them. I don’t want to say anything else because spoilers.
I recommend this book if you’re looking for a paranormal romance with:
- Fake dating
- Second chance romance
- Sexual tension / slow burn
- Spice level: 🌶
- Simple magic system
- A lot of fun characters
- Strong sister relationship
- Dual POV
I really hope that we get another two books that would focus on Violet’s sisters Rose and Olive! 🤞🏼
I just finished Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher, and I have to say I absolutely loved it. It is a paranormal witch/shifter romance, and it was really cute. Most of the shifter books I’ve read are really spicy and at times very intense, this one was more sweet with some spice. I found myself being whisked away in the wonderful world Asher created. It was a magical escape and an absolute joy to read. I will say, I review for Fat Girls in Fiction and I was told this book has a curvy plus size heroine. If that is what the author intended, I think it could have been a little bit more clear. Her curves were often discussed, which can be coded terminology for plus-size representation but not always. I think some plus size women will be able to see this as representation but others might just assume that Violet, the main character, is straight sized. That being said, this book was a fun escape and I am so glad to have read it.
Need an escape from the craziness of the world right now? Look no further. April Asher's Not the Witch you Wed is the perfect blend of romance, humor, and paranormal/witchy vibes. The characters are so loveable, the plot is so fun and sexy, and it's such a joy to read. Recommend to fans of witchy things like Hocus Pocus or Sabrina the Teenage Witch and all romance lovers!
A very good enjoyable paranormal story about witches and shifters, enemies to lovers and becoming the Prima.
Some tense moments,drama,twists and romance.
Love the sisters.
Looking forward to the next..

Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher is currently scheduled for release on February 8 2022. Magic-less witch Violet Maxwell wants nothing to do with alpha wolf shifter Lincoln Thorne, the man who broke her teenage heart. But when the two of them are forced by arcane Supernatural Laws to find mates, Violet and Lincoln agree to fake-date their way to a fake-mating in order to conjure themselves some time. When old feelings make a reappearance—along with Violet’s magic—they both realize there’s nothing fake about their feelings. But there are old secrets and looming threats that could snatch away their happily ever after, again. One thing’s for sure: magic doesn’t make dating and love any easier.
Not the Witch You Wed is a book that very much reels like the start of a series with a good blend of romance and paranormal politics.Violet and Thorne are the stars of this story. I liked the combination of second chance and fake dating tropes, and thought the conflicts and groundwork laid for future books was well done. I really liked getting to understand the dynamic between Violet and her sisters, and the connection they have with their grandmother. I thought the balance of characters devoted to happiness and greater good versus power and prestige was on point and fairly realistic. There were points when I got frustrated with the characters or saw something coming well before it happened. However, there were also moments when I was pleasantly surprised by an action or reaction and found myself grinning. I think the balance of this read was well done, and I will keep up with the series if I see it on Netgalley or in the wild.
Not the Witch You Wed is a second chance romance with a magic twist.
